Duquette, Walli$ and Cockle Missed Their Calling as Writers of Fiction

"Horse-Eater"

Jealous and incensed by all of the press (bad) and attention (negative) that his partner in horse killing, “Slaughterhouse” $ue Walli$, has been getting United Horsemen president Dave Duquette once again collaborated with his good buddy Richard Cockle to put together a misleading, inaccurate and despicable article so that the bloody spotlight of horse slaughter could once again shine beet red upon Duquette, facts and honesty be damned.  The article speaks to a supposed Horse Slaughter plant to be built in Duquette’s home town Hermiston, Oregon and lists all of the bogus and outrageous standard lies that Duquette uses to justify butchering horses and then feasting upon the companion animals flesh to feed the greed that has eaten away his soul.  But here is the REAL kicker, Duquette is the owner of the land that he is selling to his OWN organization and backers.  How is that for honesty and transparency?  United Horsemen is a 501(c)(3) and perhaps the IRS would be sincerely interested in this little shell game!

Duquette pulled this same bogus stunt back in July of 2009, with the help of Cockle, when another outrageous article circulated that stated the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon would be building a Horse Slaughter plant, soon.  I personally contacted the tribe and received this reply.

“No, we are not making any plans to build a horse slaughter plant on any reservation”, stated Tim Outman, field representative for the Warm Springs Tribe’s Department of Natural Resources.  Putting all cultural and moral conflicts aside, Outman said, “Who would invest 8-10 million dollars into building a facility where there is absolutely no market?  Shipping horse meat is against Federal Law.  We have no idea what, where or who, is perpetuating this misinformation.”

“This sort of journalism does nothing to further the cause and public relations of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs”, stated Outman.  Click (HERE) to read the SFTHH article.

Cockle went on to build a fairy tale story about Duquette and then butchered quotes from Chris Heyde of the Animal Welfare Institute; back in ’09 Hyde responded:

Richard Cockle has again written another poorly researched and unsupported article on horses. I spent a great deal of time on the phone with him providing facts and evidence dismissing the misleading claims put forward by individuals more interested in abusing horses than advancing the truth.  However, what does he do? Prints rhetoric. It is a shame that Mr. Cockle, Sue Wallis and others continue to exploit the truth and suffering of horses just to make a name for themselves nationally”

“It is amazing how sloppy reporters have been on this issue.  The tribes are smart enough to see a scam and this is one of the worst.  The misinformation on this issue seems to be radiating from a very pro-horse slaughter vet from the region who just happens to be a leader of the so called “Unwanted” Horse Coalition.  As we all know this is a front group for the horse slaughter industry.”

Duquette responded to my article with a series of emails loaded with expletives and open threats, so much so that I asked for his physical address for lawful service, his emails to me were then discontinued.

But the simple minded only repeat the same mistakes and lies because they lie so often that they can’t remember what they said in the past.

Chris Heyde has responded to the most recent Duquette/Cockle Collusion Fest with the comment:

Once again Richard has written a creative and pro-horse slaughter article. He gathers facts only from a guy who has misled folks on the issue for several years. In fact, Big D’s cohort in slaughter was just soundly rejected in her attempt to promote a plant in Missouri. The American public is tired of those working to abuse horses for a profit. There is also a growing anger among the horse industry at these horse slaughter promoters because it will turn the billion dollar horse business into a million dollar meat market thus destroying a very large industry.

So who are these “Slaughter advocates and critics alike mostly agree that the ban flopped, causing steep declines in horse prices and widespread abandonment of horses” Richard talks about. AWI started the national campaign back in 2001 and so far I am unaware of any slaughter critics who think the USDA defund effort “flopped” as he suggested. The USDA ban was never the final goal, it was a step along the way. As Cathy Liss noted, who would be foolish enough to spend millions of dollars to build a plant only to have Congress shut it down yet again? I promise you, that will happen. If these folks have so much money why don’t they use it to help horses instead of waste it buying abandoned buildings?

You can read the article by clicking (HERE) as we at SFTHH won’t soil our site with such poison.  But I highly suggest that the public stop by and visit the article for two major reasons:

1.) to Comment

2.) to view a picture of Dave Duquette with a LIVE horse, a sight that is rarely seen.

Keep the Faith.

Wild Horse Advocates Ride Up the Hill

It was a big day for wild horses in Washington D.C. on Tuesday as The Cloud Foundation staged its “Horses on the Hill” event and the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board met giving barely a listen to activists protesting wholesale roundups decimating herds in the American West.

In an exclusive report, Dr. Ann Marini writes about what she saw and heard.

Hi Everyone;

It was an interesting day on the hill today. I met Craig Downer (a noted Wild Horse expert) and John Holland

Advocates speak for those who cannot speak for themselves

Advocates speak for those who cannot speak for themselves

(longtime anti-slaughter activist) at the Press Conference held by Ginger Kathrens (the Emmy winning documentary filmmaker). Rep. Raul Grijalva, Crow Elder Howard Boggess and Hope Ryden spoke at the Press Conference. AWI staff and Chris Hyde (Animal Welfare Institute) were also present. There were about 20-30 people at the Press Conference.

Carol Walker, the equine photographer, showed a disturbing slide show of a round up at Sand Wash, Colorado where several horses were dead on the ground or where their front legs were hanging over the second rail of the metal pen because so many were crowded in a small space.

After this slide show, Congressman Grijalva spoke about how the ROAM act passed the House by a wide margin indicating that the people want reform of how the wild horses are managed and handled. He spoke about holding future roundups in abeyance until the Senate discusses the ROAM bill and comes up with their bill and that any discrepancies would be worked out in conference. He took a few questions from the audience. Hope Ryden, a former reporter for ABC spoke about how she took out a film crew in the 70s to save the wild horses and her book. The Crow elder, Howard Boggess also spoke about the spirit of the wild horses and how the BLM has slowly taken away vital and supportive grass and water away from the wild horses. He talked about how he and Jim Sparks have argued about how the BLM is “managing” the wild horses. The meeting ended about 11 am.

John, Craig and I went down to the cafeteria in the Longworth building and had something to eat. Craig and I went to see the aide in Senator Mikulski’s office who took extensive notes. Senator Mikulski is now a co-sponsor of S727 because of all of the calls and emails from constituents and he said that a few hundred constituents want the ROAM bill passed. We went to Jeff Bingaman’s (D-NM) office but didn’t see an aide as we didn’t have an appointment and neither of us is from New Mexico. We saw an aide in Sen. Reid’s office.

Sen. Reid gave an on the fence speech about the wild horse issue but said he wanted it to come to the Senate floor. We also saw the aide in Senator Ensign’s office. This aide was clearly the most knowledgeable person on the issue that we spoke with today. He was head and shoulders above all of the other aides we saw including Reid’s aide.

We were told that it is unlikely that the ROAM bill will get out of the subcommittee on Energy and Natural Resources. Craig spoke eloquently on the topic of the wild horses and how the BLM has systemically removed 21 million acres from the wild horses and zeroed out several areas. He had a histogram of the percent of wild horses removed from the herd management areas (HMAs) outlined in the original wild horse and burro act of 1971 in every state. Montana is one of the states where over 90 percent of the herds have been zeroed out.

We then met Goldie and James (a filmmaker) in Senator James Risch’s (R-ID) office and spoke with a substitute aide about the ROAM bill. Risch also sits on the subcommittee. Ginger Kathrens and a friend of hers joined the meeting. The aide was pretty much silent as he was substituting for the aide who covers this area. Ginger finally said that she knew the senator would not support the bill but if there was a pro-wild horse bill that he would support to please let us know. Goldie, who is from Idaho, said there was strong support for the wild horses in the state. She recounted the Challis roundup, showed a photo of the rangeland in Idaho that the wild horses lived on in July 2009 until they removed 600 of them in August. She told of how the helicopter pilot was not supposed to round up wild horses that were on private ranches but they did anyway.

She complained to the BLM official who said he forgot to tell the pilot to stay away from the private ranches. The next day, the helicopter rounded up the remaining horses from the private ranches and the BLM official said the same thing: I forgot to tell the pilot to stay away from there. The aide just listened.

I wish I had better news but that pretty much covered the day.

Apparently, many wild horse advocates showed up at the BLM advisory board. They were first told they would have 3 min but then were told at the meeting they only had 2 minutes to talk. Many people who came from great distances to speak on behalf of the wild horses were offended that their short time was cut even shorter.

Craig (Downer) only got through one page of his two page statement. Craig said that Larry Johnson, a BLM board member that sees it as his duty to protect big game for hunters, said the wild horses destroy the rangeland. Sweeping statements are untrue and said without considering any of the scientific data that disagrees with his opinion. It seems clear that the BLM advisory board is stacked against the wild horses.

Washington Activist Blasts Political Opportunists Using Issue

By R.T. Fitch

HOUSTON (SFHH) – On July 18th, 2009 an Associated Press story hit the internet quoting sources saying  the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon would attempt to reintroduce horse slaughter into the United States.
The headline, “Groups Push to Slaughter Horses for Meat Possibly in Oregon” swept across the internet like wild fire.

“Native Americans and others are pushing for the renewed slaughter of horses in the U.S..and processing them into meat,” The AP story said.  “..The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs are considering building a slaughter and
processing facility on their reservation north of Madras, as recommended last spring by a coalition of Northwest tribes.”

The story by Dick Cockle is inaccurate.  Several days of data mining and calls to the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs has brought forth information that refutes virtually everything Cockle reported.

“This sort of journalism does nothing to further the cause and public relations of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs”, stated Outman

The AP also misquoted Chris Hyde of Washington’s Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) to such a point that Mr. Hyde responded, in disgust saying, “Richard Cockle has again written another poorly researched and unsupported article
on horses. I spent a great deal of time on the phone with him providing facts and evidence dismissing the misleading claims put forward by individuals more interested in abusing horses than advancing the truth.  However, what does he do?
