Delusional Wyoming Politician Shows Backside Over Horse Slaughter Failure

(In My Most Outraged Opinion) by R.T. Fitch

Skewed, Unnatural, Wealthy and Privileged Vegans Pressured Congress?!?!

Equine advocates around the world cheered the bumbled failure of Rep. Cynthia Lummis’ (WY) attempt to tack on an underhanded, last-minute, pro-horse slaughter amendment to the 2012 agriculture appropriations bill on June 15th, 2011.  Knowledgeable citizens knew that little would be heard from Lummis after her public melt down and embarrassing withdrawal of the amendment in light of other scandalous, political news oozing out of our Nation’s capitol. (Like a politico named Weiner getting caught showing his wiener and then publicly admitting that he was/is a wiener.)  But what was not known was how long it would take Lummis’ backdoor informant and supplier of incorrect data and misinformation to rear her ugly head and rant about her bloody failure and inept attempt to cram horse meat down the public’s unwilling throat; Wyoming State Rep. “Slaughterhouse” Sue Wallis did not disappoint.

Yesterday, June 16th, the renegade state representative issued another tirade (click {HERE}) extolling Lummis’ efforts and expounding upon the nutritional value of a companion animals flesh, that being a horse of course.  Ranting on and on upon the alleged, and proven inaccurate, benefits of gobbling up ponies the self-appointed food science specialist (does she even have a college degree, for anything) continually ignores and has her eyes glued shut on the issue that U.S. horses are not considered food animals by the USDA and their bodies contain carcinogenic drugs that are dangerous to humans.

Horse meat is 50% higher in protein, 40% lower in fat, high in iron, low in cholesterol, and has 18 times the Omega-3 fatty acids than beef.  From a purely nutritional standpoint it is better then either venison or bison. In Europe and Asia it is made into baby food, and available everywhere.  Gourmet restaurants in Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia serve it with pride. Many would welcome its high nutrition and affordable cost if it was available in the United States, especially some of the ethnic communities that are particularly fond of it such as the Tongans, the Mongolians, and Hispanics.

I am willing to bet that Slaughterhouse Sue has not even been to any of the countries that she has listed, above, and cannot verify with fact that her statements are true.  I, for one, can verify that in Spain, Italy, Germany and even France horse meat is not a main stay and can only be found in limited quantity and in “specialty” restaurants and meat markets.  My wife, Terry, and I have traveled across Europe and poked our noses into remote villages and burgs only to discover that what the Evil Princess of Horse Slaughter purports to is a myth based upon urban rumors and innuendo.  And Asia, sorry Sue, it ain’t that big of a draw there, either.  Year to date I have spent three months inside rural central China and although the Chinese palate accepts a variety of animal parts found offensive to western tastes the horse is not one of the big menu items.  Mongolia?  You have got to be kidding me, the Mongols are a horse culture with the horse being the centerpiece of their society.  Snacking on a filly is not a recognized practice.

Putting all of the above abuses, lies and ranting aside perhaps the most despicable component of the cartoon character’s email is not what it contains but, rather, what is not obvious and totally omitted from her babbling; that would be the will and desire of the voting American public.

Horse slaughter is not accepted in the United States because over 80% of U.S. citizens do not want it here and the bulk of the free world shares that opinion.  It is a bloody, predatory business that when it finally left the U.S. the total reported jobs lost were about 170ish and the only money made was by the foreign companies that owned the three plants, there was and still is not a market here.

Perhaps our good friend and fellow advocate Vicki Tobin sums up the rant the best:

My biggest issue, aside from the usual disinformation, is that I resent that, you, the advocates across the country [and world], are completely dismissed in having anything to do with helping pass the bill as it was intended. I realize that she will never pass up the opportunity to bash HSUS and PETA, it is her goal in life, but to dismiss the real horse owners that were instrumental in the success of the legislation is a slap in the face to everyone and their hard work. I know HSUS was lobbying hard but without our constituent letters and phone calls letting our legislators know our views, the outcome may have been different.”

Spot on and it proves the point that the American people are sick and tired of a few abusively vocal, special interest driven politicians attempting to shove their distorted and whacked agendas up our collective behinds without even the courtesy of asking us to bend over, enough is enough.

The public has spoken, America’s principles were upheld in Congress and political whores such as Wallis and Lummis need to stay under their rocks after being so decisively bludgeoned with the constitution and the American flag.  For if they don’t they may find that more than just their wings will be clipped by the very public that they allege to serve.

Slither away Wallis, you creep America out and we are sick of the stench!!!

We already know they are horrid at gelding. Will they only use succhynolcholine to paralyze the mares also? Sorry off topic of this particular post but on my mind.

      • Thanks, Morgan. The spaying of mares and gelding the horse out in the field just horrifies me. Folks have stated that the gelding of domestic horses is often done in the field: but then the horse is not turned out to run. The owner takes care of it and watches for problems.
Awful BLM. I can’t understand it, and if I could it would sicken me!

I wrote to the tourism board and asked them…Since two of their vocal state and federal reps want the wild horses removed and slaughtered, as well as opening a slaughter plant for domestic horses, isn’t soliciting tourism dollars using horses hypocritical? The response was they will continue to promote horses.

  3. From a purely nutritional standpoint it is better to consume insects: “Hamburger, for example, is roughly 18 percent protein and 18 percent fat. Cooked grasshopper, meanwhile, contains up to 60 percent protein with just 6 percent fat. Moreover, like fish, insect fatty acids are unsaturated and thus healthier.

DeFoliart, the Wisconsin entomologist, says that not only are insects nutritious and delicious, they could be an environmentally friendly source of human protein requirements.

“In our preoccupation with cattle, we have denuded the planet of vegetation,” DeFoliart said. “Insects are much more efficient in converting biomass to protein.”

Insect farming is arguably much more efficient than cattle production. One hundred pounds (45 kilograms) of feed produces 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) of beef, while the same amount of feed yields 45 pounds (20 kilograms) of cricket.”

  6. I think it’s funny that she continues to lump all horse people that oppose her under the PETA/HSUS category or “wealthy vegans”. Missed again Sue. The overwhelming majority of the people I know (and I know a lot of them at this point) are real horse owners/lovers that rescue slaughter horses, do all they can to fight horse slaughter, and the best part is….they TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their horses. They don’t look for the first off ramp when the horse is no longer performing up to their expectations, and they don’t breed a hundred of them to pick one and dump the rest. And, since when are ALL vegans wealthy…..? So, you have to be rich to eat beans and rice? Actually, eating meat is much more expensive than being vegan, and then you have all those medications you have to go on for your heart disease and high blood pressure. If you look around the world, there are many many poor countries that are vegan due to finances (and ironically more healthy than us “westerners”.)

Since cows are sacred in India, why isn’t Sue asking for the slaughter of cows to end? Aren’t we being culturally arrogant toward India? What about our own ethnic population that doesn’t eat pork? Aren’t we being culturally arrogant by not calling for the end of slaughtering pigs?

There are countries that eat dogs and cats. There are countries that allow drugs to be sold. Does that mean that everything that is allowed in other countries should be allowed in the US so we don’t appear “culturally arrogant”?

Sue, if your answer is that it is acceptable to eat cows and pigs in our country then don’t use an argument of culture. If you are so worried about our country appearing “culturally arrogant” then you must apply that arrogance across the board, not just with horses. To do otherwise makes you appear disingenuous and ridiculous.

Horse meat is rarely found in a restaurant. It is more prevalent in Quebec, but even there it’s rare.

Calling us “proud” to serve horse meat in a restaurant in Canada is the biggest joke I’ve heard yet. When people find out a restaurant serves horse meat, they picket in front of the restaurant. We’ve gotten several restaurants to change their menus.

I’d say, and this is a guess on my part, that excluding Quebec there are probably only a handful of restaurants (literally, maybe five) across all of Canada that still serve horse meat. I also wouldn’t wouldn’t say they’re “proud” to serve horse meat, since they hide the fact they do so.

Members of Congress may or may not have horses of their own now, in the past, or in their future plans, but many of them have sisters, brothers, aunts, grandmothers, children and grand-children who may be involved with horses. Few people are unmoved by the sight of a horse. And once a person has loved a horse, that connection remains forever.

Many thanks to Congressman Dan Burton for embracing the strong emotional ties that horse lovers have rather than letting Congresswoman Lummis denigrate us as sentimentalists. It is our hearts like the hearts of our horses from which we draw our strength. Here, here to Congressman Burton.

What bothers me about the Wyoming situation is that people is in the state of Wyoming are not sqelching these two voices. Martin Luther King said that the only way for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing to stop it. Wyoming has bigger problems that its residents appear to realize. Part of their lands are being destroyed by mining and their acquifers are in trouble. Maybe more focus on what will destroy farming and ranching life would be a better use of these legislators time.

I continue to be amazed that the culture and society of Wyoming does not rein her in. Of course, as a person who has lived my adult life in several Southeastern states and a former teacher and student of literature, it has been my experience that people who go outside the mores and culture of their communities, get reined in one way or another (This is not always a good thing because great people emerge to correct society’s wrongs. These people initially operate outside the norms, but if their cause is right, good people of all persuasions join with them.) For example, Cynthis McKinney was a Georgia Representative during part of the time I lived there. We used to grown when she appeared in the news with her absurbities. She remained in office longer than she should have, but eventually, the people brought her home. She’s still out there, but at least she is not a duly elected representative of the people.

What is stopping the good people of Wyoming? Why are there the people who should be standing with Patricia Fazio to make sure there that Ms. Wallis remains the recluse of Recluse?

  15. Heres another take on this whole thing from the US consumers point of view.

I read recently that eating horses in France came about when Napoleon’s troops were starving so they were told to eat their horses. Now think about that for a moment! (What did they do without their horses?)

And last week I saw a very old photo of several people surrounding a dead horse in the streets, cutting it up because they had no other food. Now tell me are things really that bad here in the US that we have to eat our horses because there is no other food? That’s what Slaughterhouse Sue must really be saying; she is so concerned about peoples well-being I’m sure. (NOT!) We REALLY don’t need any more stuff in the grocery stores do we? There is so much to chose from my head spins when I go shopping and try to figure out something for dinner. With all the new reports of the continued obesity of Americans, I don’t see why adding one more food to the shelves is going to help the situation. And what about the stores and restaurants that throw out food everyday. If there were so many hungry in the US, I’m sure that food would be going to help them instead of going to the dumpsters. The government would make sure all Americans will have good food to eat won’t they? And actually, I think most people will just get creeped out and there will be many complaints from shoppers who spy the horse meat on the shelves and how will they explain that to their kids? There will be creeped out shoppers, much more so then those looking for a horse meat steak.

It’s just so ludicrous that a few want to kill an animal that means as much to most of us as our dogs and cats and other pets. It is only the very few who stand to make money off of horse slaughter that want to push for it. I’m sure their numbers are going down as who would want to be associated with someone like Slaughterhouse Sue. Their campaign is just a waste of time, so Congress had better just stop it all now and pass S. 1176 and lets move on to lowering the debt, creating GOOD paying, life sustaining jobs for Americans, and saving the last of our American Wild Horses and Burros from the BLM.

    Be GONE, Slaughterhouse Sue! POOF!!!!!

FOLKS IT’S OFF THE TABLE!! THIS IS FOR REAL FROM MARTY!!!!

The EA went out and because of all the phones calls they reconsidered.

Okay it gets worse. They are going to geld ALL the studs. But mares with colts won’t be dinged just because–they could be released also.

Part of the reasoning here is to slow the whole round up thing down to a dull roar.

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO USE ANY BIRTH CONTROL ON ANY MARE TURNED BACK OUT.

Marty will be in meetings today–I don’t know for how long–so he’s asking people to be patient while he works through the list. His phone number is 307–775-6093.

Please cross post this to all horse boards. Let’s help Marty get the word out. If they are being true to their word–let’s show them that we can and will work together!

I am very concerned about the nonreproducing herd concept and this gelding of all the stallions. While I’m relieved it’s off the table for now, I’m doing a blog on the hysterectomies of mares nevertheless because it’s something BLM has been toying with, and the experiments from Sheldon make your skin crawl.
But gelding some or all the stallions probably won’t slow down the birth rate all that much. Sooner or later a few young stud colts will be breeding everything in sight, and all BLM will have accomplished is slashing the gene pool and destroying the genetic diversity: fewer stallions breeding more mares. And they generally can’t catch ALL the horses, so again, you’ve got fewer studs spreading it around.
By the way, Dr. Gus Cothran found the genetics in Twin Peaks to be surprisingly low. So BLM went ahead and rounded up two-thirds anyway.

    • Be careful….last I heard, only the Almighty (no disrespect to our agnostic and atheist supporters) could know where anyone will rot. In addition, according to a practicing Jewish friend (who is an animal angel)…they don’t believe in hell. Don’t want to get into the debate of Reformed v. Conservative v. Orthodox, etc.

Predicting someone’s afterlife is better spent on predicting how difficult anti-slaughter supporters will make that person’s present life. I also suspect that the equines shuffled to death in this discussion would be happier if we focused on the hell THEY are currently experiencing versus what lay ahead for the likes of Wallis and Lummis.

But I certainly understand the frustration we are facing.

  27. If horse meat is so low fat and so nutritional how come Suey is so fat?? How does she stay in office when she is obviously a psychopath! Isn’t this how Jeffery Dahmer got his start? Of course Wyoming is probably backing her 100% since they don’t know what they are going to do with all of the horses they are going to destroy……..
