    I’m now looking for the list of Senate Ag Committee members that can cut up the HOUSE version and do the BACKDOOR POOP they did to remove the DEFUND language.

    BTW, folks…you can light up Boehner, Pelosi, Cantor, Reid (mega Ugh!) and McConnell (super UGH!) switch boards and fax machines in the mean time. Keep hitting them on expenditures for foreign export product inspection of equine flesh versus keeping traditional meat and produce/food stuffs safe for US/us that are currently facing manpower, enforcement and resource shortfalls.

    In Washington, D.C. Tuesday, Virginia Congressman Jim Moran’s bill to prevent the use of taxpayer money by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to inspect United States horse slaughter plants for fiscal year 2013 has passed.

    Early this afternoon,Congressman Moran’s Twitter message read:

    Jim_Moran Great news – my amendment to prohibit funding for #horse slaughter just passed by a voice vote in Appropriations Committee. about 1 hour ago · reply · retweet · favorite

    Since 2005 Congress has blocked federal funding for horse slaughter facilities which ended the operation of horse slaughter plants in the U.S., and each year included defunding in the Agricultural Appropriations Bill. Last year however, when prodded by special interest groups, Senators Blunt and Kohl, and Congressman Kingston secretly voted to drop the defunding language.

    It is not clear whether we will see a separate Senate budget this year or whether they will accept the House version. We will let you know as the situation unfolds. Last Friday I personally called every office, and they indicated that the call volume was high and very much in favor of the amendment. If the forces of slaughter thought you would be discouraged by their trickery, they miscalculated. Horse lovers are united and filled with resolve as never before. John

    It is estimated the cost would be at least five-million dollars to fund horse slaughter plants. Over 80 percent of Americans are against horse slaughter in the U.S. and refer to it as a cruel and inhumane practice.

    American horses continue to be transported to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011 (H.R. 2966, S.1176) will ban domestic horse slaughter and the export of over 100,000 American horses annually.

    • He fights tirelessly for equality, justice and compassion. I always respected him while I lived in VA….him and Frank Wolf, Tim Kaine, John Warner, Mark Warner (there are others regardless of party). Eric Cantor was my guy and he always made me ill.

      Unfortunately, Eric Cantor is now making the entire Nation ill. Not sure????? Ask John Boehner.

Below is something I wrote a while back that I will start pushing in order that people who are quite CLEARLY Horse Slaughter Dealers will be held to the same laws, rules, requirements and regulations that the rest of us legitimate business owners are held to. I’m not only against horse slaughter because it is inhumane, I’m outraged as a business owner who spends thousands upon thousands of dollars every year to legally operate my business (I have to carry 4 different types of insurance to fulfill all of the requirements for the type of work we do). Feel free everyone to pass it around so that we can start to make these losers who are only interested in saving and/or making money begin to pay what the rest of us lawful business owners have to pay in order to operate our businesses legally. I only ask that you keep my list of requirements complete:

    1. Anyone who Deals in Horse Slaughter, be it a breeder, a kill buyer, an owner, a transporter, a slaughterhouse owner, a trainer, etc, will have to secure and pay for a Dealers License, complete with background checks, finger printing (that right there will eliminate many dealers in horse slaughter because they are convicted felons, on parole, have warrants out on them, etc), fee’s, etc. Seriously, when I sold 3 cars and a horse trailer in a month, I was contacted by entities (the county I live in regarding a business license and the taxation board) that said I needed to get a Dealer’s license even though I really was a private party seller. Why shouldn’t people dealing and making a living with horse slaughter have to secure a Dealers license, complete with an IRS filing, and have all of their own rules, regulations and requirements separate from the rest of us horse people who don’t deal in slaughter?

    2. Because the stakes are a bit higher when it comes to horse slaughter and shipping possibly tainted horse meat and sickening and/or killing people, anyone dealing in horse slaughter will have to carry at least 1 million General Liability Insurance to cover possible claims, and also prosecution for dealing in tainted horse meat. Dealers also need to carry Workers Comp insurance to cover any employees and/or sub-contractors that work off a 1099 form (in case they don’t carry their own insurance as many subs don’t) in case of injury on the job so we taxpayers aren’t stuck with the bill. Dealers also would have to carry commercial vehicle insurance with at least 1 million liability limits to cover accidents with the transport trucks (and yet another accident was just reported in June 2012 that was caused by Three Angels Farm”—don’t let the name fool you, this is a slaughter dealers truck that was crammed with horses on their way to Texas then Mexico), that involve injury and/or death to other human beings and/or property damage to other peoples personal property.

    3. For the breeders whom REGULARLY “breed and dump” horses at the kill sales and/or ship directly to slaughter (and it is surprisingly easy to check someones past history of how many they send to the sales or to slaughter facilities directly, so this wouldn’t be the people who send a horse or two a year to the kill sale), they will be required to microchip and/or freeze or hot brand their horses to be able to identify them when they go to slaughter. When one of their horses goes through, the horse will be held, the breeder will be contacted and will be required to provide an entire record from birth of the horses vaccination records, drug records, dewormers, supplements, any other “additives” records, etc. Every person that has owned that horse between the breeder and when they end up at the slaughterhouse will also be required to provide documentation/records on the horse as well. If these records are not provided, the horse cannot be slaughtered and must be humanely euthanized and disposed of at the sellers expense.

    4. Also for the breeders, they will have a quota of the number of horses they can produce every year (like what they have in many European countries, where they breed higher quality horses because they are breeding for quality instead of quantity) and if they go over their quota, they will be taxed/fined for every horse over the quota.

    5. Anyone dealing in slaughter horses will have their own required Bill of Sale with 4 copies stating that the horse is either free of drugs, vaccines, dewormers, additives, etc, or they are not, and they will be required to sign with copies going to their State, the Buyer, the seller/Dealer, and a copy goes to the Federal government (USDA, IRS, etc). This will enable a horses ownership, drug, and additive record to be more precisely traced. And although I do know people are always yapping about “less government”, I’ve also noticed that these same people always want less governement when it doesn’t benefit them, but more government when it does. This slaughter Bill of Sale will also differentiate the people who deal in horse slaughter from other horse people who do not, and will keep the anti-horse slaughter people from being subjected to rules, laws and regulations like the NAIS that not only cost us money, but also infringe on our private non-business/non-slaughter ownership of horses when we are not putting any horses into the food chain with drugs and other additives in their systems. Those of us who are in fact anti-horse slaughter should never be targeted just because other horse people choose to deal in horse slaughter.

    6. the seller of the horse going to slaughter will also pay an inspection fee at the slaughterhouse so that we taxpayers don’t have to;

    7. ANYONE sending a horse to slaughter will be required to pay for a blood test to test for drugs and other “additives” in the horses system, and the horse will be held until the results of the blood test come back. If the horse is found to have drugs or other additives in their system and paperwork has been signed saying they were “clean” and drug and/or banned substances free, not only will the seller be required to pay for humane euthanasia and disposal of the horses body RIGHT THERE AT THE BORDER, SLAUGHTER FACILITY, ETC (this is so they can’t just take the horse to a remote area and dump them), than the person performing the fraudulant actions will be: *First time offense-fined (and not a dinky “slap on the wrist” fine either-make it impact their wallet), *Second offense-fined and suspended from selling horses to slaughter for 1 year, *Third offense-prosecuted as a repeat offender in fraudulant activities that are dangerous to human life, possibly jailed, and their licensing is permanently revoked as a Dealer.
    Quite frankly everyone, I can see a lot of jobs being put in place if the Horse Slaughter Dealers are forced to operate LEGALLY instead of flying under the radar–more Highway Patrol jobs for pulling over transport trucks, more law enforcement when they find dealers applying for licenses and a warrant shows up, the collection of more fines and fees and the people that we’ll need to process the paperwork, etc. These will be LEGITIMATE jobs and not migrants, illegals, felons on parole, etc that are normally hired to kill horses. Force the horse slaughter dealers to expose who they are, follow the laws, carry insurance, etc and it will force them to spend a lot of money for everything, they will then be subject to laws, paying taxes to the IRS, carrying insurance that protects the public, etc, and if they won’t do it, they’ll either drop out of the business or go black market where if they’re caught doing that, it will be jail time.

  15. They have heard our stance on tainted meat, they won’t and don’t care. They will expect the USDA to manage that aspect. After all, they don’t care what we eat. Remember we have GMO and Monsanto, so what’s a little tainted meat. right? Abuse? Doesn’t matter. Look what they let happen over and over to the burros and mustangs, and very blatantly I might add? Should we really be having to fight so hard for something that is so overwhelmingly wrong, atrocious, cruel and costly in more ways than just our cold hard cash. Not a lot of what humanitarianism is about is evident in the matter at all now is it? So what is? What will be their focus? My gut tells me it will be about money and jobs. That’s what all this whole election coming up will be about. Money and jobs is the main focus their behinds must have so disparately . So, for the horses to have a chance to save their behinds, keep stressing the need for jobs with LIVE horses, and any and all job benefits. I’m going to focus on that aspect and flower it with all the other issues that they have continuously been ignoring. I am wondering, has anyone put anything out about any stats or economical expenses our nation would deal with IF the USA WAS slaughtering horses? Say their plan goes whack-a-doo. Say, over the next 2 years, like with 3 slaughter houses, how people would start loosing jobs because there would be fewer horses for vets, farriers, therapists, feed and hay, tack stores, (the list goes on and in many directions). Just HOW would this affect our economy? They have told us how many will be slaughtered per day. I need to do some math. Can we not look into how some things would be IF we had to deal with slaughter? What’s the US going to do in 2013 when they reject US horses? And if Americans don’t turn on to eating it? Won’t over breeders put us in an overpopulated jam again, then what are they going to do? What will THAT cost us? Think we need to start talking their language. It’s numbers ($$$) and plans (jobs). To me, this makes the most sense. To all of us, the horses matter, to them, only money and a plan to save their behinds might possibly get the horses a chance to live.

  17. Let me also add that I am very excited about the accomplishment for the horses. Many have worked so hard. Thank you Congressman Moran, Declan, RT, everybody. I am not trying to be discouraging earlier, I am just still working to end this mess and thinking out loud. The PSA’s have painted a rosy picture with horse slaughter and I still think they need a paint job. Let’s keep stoking it.

  18. I’m so glad it passed. Now to finish the job, get it through entire House and Senate. Stopping slaughter houses for horses in USA is only the start. We still need to find a way to prevent the transport of our horses to Mexico and Canada.

    Why can’t we shut the borders to trailers carrying horses? They would have to have a legit reason for moving horses over borders…and anyone transporting 30 or 40 would of course be turned back.
    Any legit transport would only have one or two and if they are moving more they would have to show proof that they were not going to slaughter. The paperwork alone should put a stop to it, If we can take the profit out of horse slaughter, we can stop it.
