An update on Forest Service plans to annihilate the Salt River wild horses, on Wild Horse & Burro Radio (Fri., 8/7/15)

My apologies to Simone Netherlands and all of our listeners:  due to the fact that I didn’t realize Arizona isn’t on Daylight Savings Time, I miscalculated the time the show was to start in Arizona on Mountain time.  That is the reason Simone didn’t call in during our show.  Simone was prepared to call in the following hour, which would’ve been the correct time.

  1. Be aware that if FS goes ahead with the roundup they ship to slaughter. They don’t have facilities for adoption events…

One of those FS people said the other day that the horses “might” hurt someone so there acting proactively by rounding them up. My response (and I don’t mean this to responsible few men that are advocates)is that men need to be neutered because they “might” rape a woman and force her thru an unwanted pregnancy.

The horses are wild. Learn to respect a wild animal and give them room. You wouldn’t touch a bear or mountain lion, so why even think of petting a wild horse!? Learn to interact with a wild horse by quietly observing from a distance and respecting them when a head is raised, ears go back–that’s your cue that observation time is over. Interaction is not always hands on. Learn to accept a non physical interaction and know that they can be as powerful if not more so!

    • Makes me wonder what they will do with tarantulas, black widows, rattlesnakes and scorpions, etc. who are known to hurt people and vastly outnumber all the wild horses remaining in the U.S., free or captive. Anyone in for USFS scorpion roundup?

  2. So many Horse & Burro rescues would love to have volunteers and that’s a wonderful way to get your Horse Fix. There are Domestic Horses that could use that physical interaction. The Wild Horses are best left Wild…for their own sake and safety.

  3. I did listen in tonight and appreciated Debbie and R.T.’s comments, even though Simone was unable to make the program. It is encouraging to see so many people getting involved to support these wonderful horses – have viewed the video of them, as they splashed thru the water, so happy to be free and totally oblivious to all the controversy swirling around them.

The Forest Service must give serious consideration to alternatives to manage them.

  4. Deb Coffey-
“No worries” about the time misunderstanding – I still learned things from the show from you and R.T. Fitch.
    Thanks.
