Just days ago, a post appeared up on Facebook, one that Logan Carr Allen had no idea would spark an international outrage. To Logan, it was just another day and he wanted to share what he was proud of. Except, once the images broke into the public his activities revealed major crimes that he had comitted on a helpless Quarter Horse, named ‘Prickly Pear’.
Logan titled the post as ‘Bad Boy’, and although his story has changed several times from training the horse to a technique known as a ‘lay down’ to trying to wash mud off of his horse when ‘Prickly’ started to misbehave then also steered to teaching his horse not be scared of water. None of these answers have depicted anything other than extreme animal abuse.
What was revealed to the world instead of ‘training’, was disturbing images that shocked the world as Logan used a torture method known as ‘water boarding’. A technique more accustomed to encounters of extreme method used on prisoners to fall into submission. But this 3 year old colt was no prisoner or threat and whilst Logan has defended himself as simply using a traditional ‘old age’ technique amongst cowboys, this was anything but training.
Prickly was initially hogtied so that he was restricted from resisting against the torture then he was subjected to a constant flow of water over his face and body and told ‘ bad boy’. After that, photos showed the horse covered in a tarp and water flodded over him. This technique caused not only discomfort from the rough ropes that tightly bound the horse, but as the water pounds onto the tarp it restricts the animals breathing (similar to drowning) and can cause suffocation and even death. Aside the physical torture that this horses endured, the severe mental abuse is even more damaging.
By Iowa State law, the criminal acts performed on ‘Prickly’ are listed are determined as animal abuse and animal torture. Whilst weaker in the State of Iowa compared to others where the same crimes are considered a felony act, they are both considered as aggravated misdemenors and consider jail time with fines.
Waterboarding is a form of water torture in which water is poured over a cloth covering the face and breathing passages of an immobilized captive, causing the individual to experience the sensation of drowning. Waterboarding can cause extreme pain, dry drowning, damage to lungs, brain damage from oxygen deprivation, other physical injuries including broken bones due to struggling against restraints, lasting psychological damage, and death.[1] Adverse physical consequences can manifest themselves months after the event, while psychological effects can last for years.[2] wikipedia
However, even after the footage went viral, no arrests were made, and shockingly STILL are not being made. Infact from the County Attorney’s office and the Sheriff’s office (who refuses to comment on this case), this is an ongoing investigation. This has been the only response that is repeated.
ARM is continuing to investigate this case on a State and Federal level, despite the resistance of the local law Sheriff’s Department of Mills County and the county attorney’s offices, to prosecute these crime.
Logan is also under fire for Bull baiting and causing torment and distress to a minature horses in previous post of Facebook. His account has since been disabled.
ARM has also contacted the leading equine and animal protection agencies and associations who are now launching their own independent investigations. They will review their evaluation publicly and will be updated on this page. None of these organizations consider Logan Allen’s methods as ‘training’ or condone it and were all appalled by its use. It is ARM’s mission to discredit and ensure the banning of Logan Allen from any horse training involvement, breeding, selling or competing in any equine sport.

Well, all I can say is it takes all kinds. Now to the so called trainer. Its about time someone hog tied him and let’s subject him to the same “training” technique. How long will he last? Could he get any more mentally deranged? Hopefully, he will prosecuted for his stupidity and inhumane treatment of this horse.

This guy is beyond sick and sadistic. People better start taking stuff like this seriously before monsters like him abuse or kill more animals or even become serial killers.
I’m also not sure about trusting the Professional Rodeo Association to do a private investigation as animal cruelty is prevalent among a number of rodeos.

The way he has the horses legs so tightly bound, the joints must be very painful. This man needs to be bound and waterboarded right in the same place and fashion.

This is so difficult to see and is just sickening and cruel to inflict such atrocities on a helpless animal;the psyche of certain humans has just reached a down in the gutter low,and I cannot fathom how these so called humans can live with themselves;they are truly perpetrators and disguise their actions as entertainment,fun and games and anything to watch an animal suffer is their M.O. I hope to God that there is some degree of punishment or at least public reprimand, and I know Karma will rear its head towards these morons for their ghastly abusive behavior in the near to distant future.

Nutjob is right! And how fortunate for this horse that this one DID post it. Hopefully enough people realize just how abusive this was & make a big stink about it! I do remember years ago seeing a horse laid down – but that was it – nothing like this moron! Honestly, is there some website somewhere that goes out of its way to come up with torture ideas? Hope ARM can get somewhere on this.

Damn this individual. Someone should take him out and tie his arms and legs to a tree and leave him there for an extended length of time. And, why has he not been convicted of animal cruelty? These individuals that should be charging him needs to be replaced and charged with failure to enforce the law. I hope someone came from a saving agency and took all his animals, with charges being placed he never comes in contact or owns another animal again. He should be whipped – the sob. This is not justice for these beautiful animals he has physically and mentally effected. I’d love to have the opportunity to give him the treatment he deserves. someone needs to do their jobs and the people in this community need TO DEMAND HIS CHARGES OF ANIMAL CRUELTY AND SEE HE NEVER HAS ANIMALS IN HIS POSSESSION OR NEAR HIM AGAIN. Let him die alone when it is his time to go.

Not only were arrests not made but Logan was allowed to flee the state. It’s pretty disgusting. There apparently was a rescue ready to help him learn more appropriate training methods. That’s done now.
One story had it that Logan had seen this method online and that’s what made him a professional.
If he’d do that to a horse for misbehaving it’s scary to think how he’d treat children. Kids misbehave. That’s part of growing up. Would he water board them? SCARY.

I’ve seen ‘laying down’ done slowly and gently in a way that I really don’t see to be abusive, but these pictures are just awful. Glad he is being investigated. I’m still waiting for the day when this kind of outrage carries over into the dog training world though. It’s incredible the things I see “trainers” get away with (hanging dogs from choke/prong collars to “calm” them, shocking with ecollars, etc.). IMO the best line of defense is to expose the abusive trainers and methods whenever possible and educate others as much as we can on gentle and positive training methods instead.

I called the Sheriff office regarding the torture by Logan Allan. The comment will be given to the investigating officer, so she said. How long will this go on before someone finds a horse dead.

Disturbing enough to learn people can devise such barbaric “methods” to “train” a horse. Worse they are proud enough to post it online. Prickly Pear looks like his head may be injured by either a beating or falling, his left eye appears swollen shut in the photo. Yet more disgusting to see others standing by watching and doing NOTHING. Worst of all, the little buckskin has already had the hide peeled off his hind legs long before the photo was taken, indicating a long and ongoing torment.
Torturing innocent and harmless, incapacitated creatures has to be the most vile of human traits. Please someone let’s use the media to post a photo of this perp and broadcast it widely. Rodeo season is about to begin and he’s likely to show up at some of them. We should get some posters out nationwide with his mug on them, just like the old days. One can hope he may find a little frontier justice along the way.

I have worked with difficult Horses here at Wild at Heart and I’ve never used violence to soften or train any Horse, you can not call yourself a trainer if the only way you can achieve progress in any animal is by force, then your just an animal abuser and don’t call yourself a trainer as it brings disgrace to those who know you work with a horse as a team and together they learn what your asking of them. I’ve found that compassion and time and being around other Horses here at the Rescue they learn we don’t scream or hit or do anything that will harm them physically or mentally most have suffered enough of that, I have techniques that are simple but effective when a Horse wants to be disrespectful and the love my other Horses have for me helps in the way of them correcting bad behavior and it’s far worse than anything I do, so they learn quickly to be respectful. I have a variety of Horses from Mustangs to Frisian Cross and I’ve gained their respect without violence and you know what your doing is right when they will do something new and be afraid but because they trust you they will do the task anyway, this builds more trust in you and they learn a new task and it builds their confidence and all done with patience and trust in each other. Each training time is short and always praised at the slightest advancement, this encourages them to want to work with you not against you. What this person did is sadistic and he should be punished as harshly as the law allows, it won’t be what he deserves but the knowledge that he will answer to a higher Law and knowing you get back from this World what you put in it gives me some satisfaction. I believe he will suffer, we may never know what it is but I do know it will happen. Please use the information and call and email those in a position that can stop it, they didn’t do the right thing but if enough pressure is put on them they will be forced to act and please share this on every media site your on so more can have knowledge of not only this man but of the acts of suffering that are done every day.

On looking at the still shot Logan provided, I don’t think it’s the same horse as the one tied up and being hosed. Does anyone else see a white star on the horse posed in the grass? The one on the ground has no star.

This is the most disgusting training I have ever seen. I hope within time and getting the horse away from this man that it will learn to trust humans again. I will never understand why people feel that training can turn in to abuse. I hope he is banned from every owning another horse and is prosecuted for cruelty (which I doubt). Remember it’s just a horse.

Please stop using the word trainer when referring to what this person is doing, call it for what it is ANIMAL CRUELTY AND ABUSE, don’t disgrace those who know how to work with a Horse without hitting or submitting an animal to the horrific torture methods this inhumane human is doing, to call him a trainer or this is training in any sense of the word is against every thing people who understand how to work with Horses without inflicting pain or suffering, he’s a Sadistic Animal Abuser and that’s all and every time I read someone calling him a trainer or his methods are training makes me sick. Her personifies Evil and if he can do such horrific acts to a gentle loving animals imagine what he’s capable of doing to a child or anyone else who can’t fight back. I suffer for any animal he’s ever had because there is nothing to depraved he won’t do.

If I had my way I would tie his legs to two of my Mustangs going in different directions and call them to pull and see how he likes to suffer but my faith won’t allow such a punishment but my Heart says it would be Justice for all those he has caused such suffering too. Far to many of these sadist torture Loving and Gentle animals everyday and I pray each night that more be saved and although I can’t understand how are why this goes on, I have to give it to God or I would loose my mind with all the ugliness I’ve seen so called humans do to other humans and sadly to those who have no voice or are helpless.

I’m with you. I like your idea of tying him to your two horses. I would love to see it. He deserves to have Karma come. I don’t see Karma coming to any of these horrible people. I wish them hell for the rest of their lives and the hereafter. I, too, don’t understand how God can let this happen to his most beautiful animal he has put on earth. I hope he will stop it real soon. They don’t deserve this. I think the worst thing God put on this earth is the human being, and there are just too many of the bad ones on this earth. I hope they will get the justice they deserve and that it will be millions/trillion times more painful than what the horses are enduring at the slaughter houses.

I have called and emailed anyone who could help but as the wife of a Law Enforcement Officer for 25 years I know about Sheriffs like this, without pressure or bad press that sheds a bad light on him and his lack of concern for Animal Welfare he won’t put much effort into stopping this man or others who abuse in his County. If a change is to be made it will only occur if we who love and care about the welfare of these Horses and any other animals being abused make him and others in a position to act become the focus of the lack of action on his and the State Attorney’s office, so call everday, I do, email everyday I do, don’t stop putting the pressure on his office. I’m sure ARM is shedding light on this by every means possible, but we also need to do our part to insure no others animals suffer in this County, so keep sharing and keep calling and emailing, ARM can’t do it alone, so do what you can and keep sharing this story, don’t let it die like he would let one of the Horses do and call it a Training method, we are now their voice, so use yours and speak up.

What about the buckskin shown with all the hide torn off his hind legs? These weren’t fresh injuries and look like bad rope burns. Was this a horse someone else owned and paid him to “train?” He looks like a young horse. What is his story and why are no charges being filed on his behalf, especially since it looks like a pattern.

What is it with the hatred of horses? The world is full of mostly men who go to unfathomable ends to hurt, torture and kill horses – who are the creatures who are closer to God spiritually than any other- why?

It’s not about hatred it’s about PURE EVIL, there is no other word that fits what this sadistic person did to these animals, not just Horses he’s an equal opportunity SADIST. There is something geneticly missing with those who Harm or abuse any Human or Animal, no excuse is acceptable for this kind of behavior and he will continue to do this if he’s allowed to have animals. There are a lot of loving and knowledgable men who know how to work with Horses, the men who’s teaching I follow are known for their way with Horses and never used brutality of any kind and yet could get any Horse to work with them, there are female sadist out there as well and I know they do not know God’s Grace as they would never do such horrible things as they would know there will be a day of judgement when what they have done will be known, they can hide from us but nothing can be hidden from God. I’ve worked and been a Handler of Dogs for over 30 years and my Search and Rescue dogs did what they loved to do, we found lost children, Elderly, Criminals and even lost pets, so from my Husbands exposure as a 25 year Police Officer and from the Evil I’ve seen done to the helpless I’ve seen EVIL up close and personal and there’s no way to live with this without being able to give it to God. Please don’t blanket abusers as being just men, they are plenty out there that still want to break a Horse not work with it this is what they were taught and they still use unacceptable practices to BREAK a Horse for the most part they don’t go to the lengths this person has done, I know many men who work with Horses as I do with kindness and patience but for others it takes a lot to learn new ways. Pray for the animals all over who are being abused and neglected and never look the other way because Indifference and Apathy are as cruel as those who abuse.

I truly wish the same torture that is given to so many animals and children could be given back to the people that tortured them. Or at the very least a jail sentence that would be appropriate, not just a slap on the wrist. I’m so sad for those horses.
