Our guests tonight are Steve Hindi (President and Founder) and Janet Enoch (Investigator) of SHowing Animals Respect & Kindness (SHARK).

SHARK was founded in 1993 by former hunter Steve Hindi, and has stood almost alone in exposing the horrific animal abuse, countless lies, and corruption of rodeos in general and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) in particular.

The PRCA National Finals Rodeo: The “Superbowl of Rodeos” was first exposed in 2007 when SHARK’s video cameras documented Charles Soileau, then Vice-Chairman of the PRCA Board of Directors, secretly using the cruel practice of electro-shocking horses. SHARK again exposed the NFR in 2012 and 2013 for continuing to use electricity to make horses perform. SHARK also exposed the electro-shocking of horses at The Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo for 3 years straight until the rodeo finally BANNED the practice in 2008.

SHARK used undercover video to convince many schools to stop using donkey basketball games as fund-raisers.

Horse Tripping: SHARK exposed and contributed to the banning of horse tripping in Illinois, Oregon, and Nevada. In “Mexican rodeos,” horses are purposely tripped as an event. These horses commonly have their legs, backs and necks broken, as well as many other injuries.

Steve uses his hobby of flying remote controlled aircraft to document otherwise hidden cruelty, and other illegal activities.

SHARK also battles tirelessly against rodeos, bullfighting, live pigeon shoots, turkey shoots, canned hunts (and all hunting), circuses, zoos, marine parks and animal scrambles.

  1. I read this – please pass it on to your guests:
There is a Donkey Roping event planned for Sept 3rd at Lazy V Ranch near Chelsea, OK. Please contact the organizers to stop this event. There is a facebook page…Lazy V 105′ Pasture Roping. Donkeys anatomy is not designed to be roped. The neck of a donkey is easily injured if roped. The back legs of a donkey are not meant to be stretched by head and heeling. A donkeys mind is much different than other farm animals. A donkey is a very cautious animal. A donkey remembers being mistreated for the rest of its life. A donkey who has been roped most often never trusts humans again. Please help stop donkey roping. It is a cruel sport.

  2. I remember going to a regional type rodeo where the calves being roped looked so full of anxiety – probably get chased and roped repeatedly. I felt bad for all the stress being put on them simply for entertainment and dominance over them. Humans are cruel dictators.

I remember visiting a dairy where you could visit the cows. All of the calves had their own personalities – one was very friendly and came over to visit, another was timid. Some of them were chained at their feet. But I’ll never think that animals are not unique individuals.

  3. There’s an Amish author who’s books I use to read. Well until I heard her post one afternoon how the family was going to donkey basketball. My pleas to forego this event fell on deaf ears. Since then I don’t buy her books, but you know those compilation books…where several authors join to write several stories. I don’t buy those books if she’s one of the authors.

Even on kindle. I won’t support her love for abusing such a gentle marvelous animal as a donkey.

  4. As difficult as it is for an animal lover to listen to these stories about abuse, we must educate ourselves and not hide our heads in the sand. I am proud to know of people like Steve Hindi who follow and do not give up and continue to expose and fight against animal abuse. Cruelty to animals, also called animal abuse or animal neglect, is the human infliction of suffering or harm upon non-human animals, for purposes other than self-defense or survival. Thank you for this radio show.

  5. We all remember Senator Inhofe:

Inhofe Introduces Amendment to Allow Horse Slaughter Plants
    Thursday, January 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today introduced an amendment to the omnibus spending bill that would strike a provision of the bill blocking the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) from inspecting horse slaughter plants and thereby effectively banning these facilities in the United States.
