Our guest tonight is ELAINE NASH, Founder and Director of Fleet of Angels, a grassroots movement of horse lovers who own trailers and are willing to help transport equines to safety when their lives are in danger.
Elaine will talk about how all of us can help to get hundreds of wild horses adopted from ISPMB by Nov. 29th, so that many horses won’t be sold at an auction and into the slaughter pipeline.
Elaine will also talk about the recent rescue efforts by Fleet of Angels in North Carolina after Hurricane Matthew.
Fleet of Angels provides transportation for evacuating equines from floods, fires, and other natural disasters, organizing post-disaster equine search and rescue missions, coordinating foster care placement, doing equine fencing and facility repair, coordinating hay drive efforts, and offering other services as needed to save, protect, and care for at-risk equines.
Fleet of Angels helped to Keep America’s Wild Equines in America, by helping to find homes & transportation for the 10o wild burros that the BLM had planned to ship to Guatemala to become beasts of burden.

Straight from the Horse's Heart 
I was wondering if there has been any effort to keep as many of the herds together from SD by petitioning for someone or group to take over the sanctuary? Then the horses could stay and new management could provide a more sustainable situation for the land and horses. Is this at all feasible? Thank you. Gigi

Dr. G., I have read elsewhere that the approved plan is for ISPMB to try to adopt out 400 or so horses by Nov. 30, and if they can at that time prove they have enough funds to care for the remaining horses for 18 months they will be allowed to continue to do so, on site. Whatever amount of funding they take in will determine how many horses they can keep, and how many will go on the auction block Dec. 1. There doesn’t seem to be any effort to review or replace the management which led to this disaster, nor much understanding that the land itself will need time to recover so buying hay will be an ongoing necessity, even in summer.

I was wondering that also gigi, it is a working sanctuary already so there should be a certain number of horses that should be allowed to stay on the property and not need to be removed, maybe there should be efforts in finding someone or organization willing to take over running the sanctuary and keep some of the more unique herds there and not have to be removed at all, that would lower the number of horses that would then need to be immediately removed. Then concentrate on getting hay out there for the winter.
Many of us out here do not have the facilities to adopt any horse much less a wild one, but we certainly can donate to get food and supplies to keep them where they are and get the sanctuary up and running again.
Just a question I would like to ask tonight.

I’m not convinced that the horses that went to Wells, NV are going to be treated much better than they have been in SD.
