New Uniform “Vision Cards” Display Images of Oil Rig and Livestock Grazing

Washington, DC — U.S. Bureau of Land Management employees are now under orders to wear “Vision Cards” on their uniforms displaying official maxims, according to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).  These cards are little message boards with aphoristic statements about vision, mission, values, and guiding principles of the BLM.

“The person of federal employees should not be used for political messaging,” stated PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch, noting the Vison Cards’ similarity to propaganda placards used by totalitarian regimes. “This is supposed to be the Bureau of Land Management not Mao’s Red Guard.”

The two Vision Cards for uniform wear repeat language from the agency website.  The cards –

  • Display the image of an oil rig and what appears to be livestock grazing, in contrast to the official BLM logo which shows a tree, river, and mountain;
  • Reference serving “stakeholders” and “customers” but do not mention serving the public; and
  • Declare that the purpose of improving “the health and productivity of the land” is “to support the BLM multiple-use mission.”

It is not clear from where the order to wear the Vison Cards emanates.  BLM has no permanent director nor has the Trump White House even named a nominee.  During the past year, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and a small band of political appointees in DC have dictated BLM policy.  While reports of the mandatory card display have reached PEER from the West, the organization is still trying to determine whether the order is national in scope.

  1. “Our Values: To serve with honesty, integrity, accountability…”
What kind of a sick joke those words are and anyone who has every dealt with the BLM knows it.

Here is what their badge should say:
BEWARE! We at BLM are a regulatory captured agency.
Regulatory capture is a form of political corruption that occurs when a regulatory agency, created to act in the public interest, instead advances the commercial or special concerns of interest groups that dominate the industry or sector it is charged with regulating. Regulatory capture is a form of government failure; it creates an opening for firms to behave in ways injurious to the public. The agencies are called “captured agencies”.

      • The badge should say: We, the BLM, neither care for the conservation of the land nor any wildlife on it. We are determined to extinct species such as wild horses, bison, wild burros, wolves and any animal we choose. We protect nothing but what makes us money, and that is cattle, a non-native species, and we will sell them to China. Ryan Zinke is our god.

  2. I’m curious about BLM “customers” since they generally lease rights to minerals, grass, timber etc. and occasionally sell land. The BLM is not a business but a government agency ostensibly managing public lands for the public interest, which is not a sales model. It seems the “new” commitment to “make a difference” means to improve the bottom line of private, not public, interests? It is beyond cynical to proclaim an interest in “citizen stewardship” when they are shutting these down and ignoring citizen input as a matter of ill-defined policy.

  3. Is this a joke? They’ve been honored to CARE
for OUR wild horses and there’s not one statement mentioning the Horses.

Perhaps because that lie would have been too blatant, since they are guilty of many crimes of animal cruelty.

The BLM along with Ryan Zinke need to be sued, convicted and jailed for these crimes.

And the 80,000 wild horses imprisoned and booted off their constitutionally protected land need to be freed.

    Enough of this!

    • Right now there are over 46,000 wild horses and burros in BLM holding facilities. The BLM was planning to “euthanize” kill tens of thousands more on public lands. Please check our posts because the 2019 Budget alsocontains language to kill wild horses and burros and to open Horse Slaughter plants in the US again.
