The Posse Must Ride: Call to Action to Protect Wild Horses and Burros in Senate Appropriations Committees

photo by Carol Walker of Wild Horse Freedom Federation

The Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee takes up the BLM’s Wild Horse & Burro Program budget this Tuesday (TOMORROW) morning at 9:30 am, and the full Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up the BLM’s Fiscal Year 2019 spending legislation this Thursday starting at 10:30 am.  With your help, the phone rumble needs to resume asap.

The House appropriators passed an amendment by Chris Stewart (R-UT) that would eradicate mustangs and burros in the wild, by creating same-sex herds, and subject tens of thousands of wild mares and burro jennets to an archaic, tortuous, life-threatening sterilization procedure.  The BLM is also considering plans to ship our wild horses & burros overseas.  The Senate offers a real chance of blocking any such language from approval in the final 2019 budget – if we act now.  Here’s how:

1. If you haven’t already done so, please call and/or email your Senators urging them to work with their colleagues on the Senate Appropriations Committee to reject any language allowing the creation of same-sex/non-reproducing herds, barbaric sterilization procedures, killing, “euthanizing,” or “unlimited sales” of our wild horses and burros.  Also, tell them you do not want our wild horses & burros to be shipped overseas.

2.  Call the 13 members of the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee (or as many as you can) to get the same message across before TOMORROW.  The committee members and their telephone numbers are listed below.
Please reach out to friends and colleagues you may have in these states so they can augment the message from constituents – you can send them this link:

“One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them. Martin Luther King, Jr.”

  1. Surely there is a way to get water permanently to the wild life where ever it may be. If we can’t do that as a nation we are a failure. Even though the Wild Mustangs are wild they are not to be eliminated or hunted. They are a permanent fixture in our country and Must be cared for and there is a way to do birth control that is humane and it is Not the way proposed. Put this in the hands of those who know how to do it and Now. Water is a sustaining force for all, concentrate on that with those who know how. It is our duty to care for the Wild Mustangs, No Slaughter and no shipping to other countries for food. Now is the time, so many have perished because of greed and it must stop.

  2. Perhaps this is something that can go out to your following and a large group of us keep speaking these words….

“All that is transpiring that destroys equine freedom and well-being Shall be considered an error one day, far from this time of chaos.

My prayer is for the Spirit of Equine to Receive the Light of Love that I and many humans are offering

Inside the pain of harming beautiful Beings is a reflection of ignorance and greed This reflection is sent around the world prompting clarity over time in humans

Blessed be the lovely and helpful ways of both wild and domestic equines.”

    So Be It

  4. Can someone provide the emails for these contacts please? No fax and can’t spend hours on the phone, but can send emails quickly. I have contacted my Senator recently but none from my state are on either list (above). It seems a shame so few states that have living wild horses and burros are actually represented, so those voting on their fate have less at stake. Many have no or almost no public lands, either. So much for representative Democracy.

  6. While we’re at it…and AFTER we call Congress…
We need to contact David Letterman and Howard Stern

Apparently David Letterman and Howard Stern (both have a huge audience) have been given false information as they both think that sterilizations and birth controls are acceptable.

They need to know the TRUTH

Dave just can’t get a word in. The Howard Stern episode is now streaming on Netflix.
