Trump Nominates Ex-Monsanto Exec to ‘Help the Most Anti-Environmental Administration in History Do Even More Damage’

We wrote an article about Aurelia Skipwith last year.  Skipwith spoke at the “Slaughter Summit” and was quoted as saying “the ability to sell horses “without limitation,” along with euthanizing horses and burros, is the “most humane way to address the issue.”  (Source:  Las Vegas Sun)

Animal rights and conservation advocates are outraged over President Donald Trump’s nominee to head the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)—Aurelia Skipwith, a former executive at agrochemical giant Monsanto—warning that she will continue the administration’s ongoing efforts “to dismantle protections for wildlife, national parks, and monuments.”

A biologist and lawyer, Skipwith worked (pdf) for Monsanto for six years before taking positions with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), then the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). She has been with the Interior Department since Secretary Ryan Zinke appointed her to serve as the deputy assistant secretary for fish, wildlife, and parks last year.

“Aurelia Skipwith has been working in the Trump administration all along to end protections for billions of migratory birds, gut endangered species safeguards, and eviscerate national monuments,” noted Brett Hartl of the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD). “Skipwith will always put the interests of her old boss Monsanto and other polluters ahead of America’s wildlife and help the most anti-environmental administration in history do even more damage.”

  6. Our wild horses are caught up in the storm our country faces. Please everyone get out and vote, and get everyone you know to as well. If you love our horses and our country there is no other honourable path, and there won’t be a second chance later:

The only restraint on Trump is a lever of national power in the hands of the opposition party that can force some accountability.

    The stakes could not be higher. If the coming midterms reaffirm Trump’s grip on every lever of national power — the White House, the Senate, the House and the Supreme Court — he will become even more swollen and more dangerous to our institutions, which are now straining to contain his excesses.

    Trump once boasted, “I am a nationalist.’’ He surely is. And remember what President Charles de Gaulle of France once observed: Patriots put love of their own people first, while nationalists put hate for other people first. This is a time for every American patriot to do the only thing that can make a difference now:

    In the midterm elections, vote for a Democrat, canvass for a Democrat, raise money for a Democrat, drive someone to a voting station to vote for a Democrat.
