Wolves and other wildlife are crucial to America’s natural heritage
This is it. Trump has declared a nationwide war on wolves. His administration has rolled out plans to strip Endangered Species Act protection from nearly every wolf in the lower 48.
We know what will happen next: It will be a return to the days when wolves were shot on sight, killed in traps and relentlessly persecuted to the brink of extinction. Worse yet, it will end 40 years’ of wolf recovery in the United States.
The big lie pushed by the Trump administration is that wolves have recovered. But the truth is that wolves occupy less than 10 percent of their historic habitat and face persecution from coast to coast.
Trump’s plan takes us in exactly the wrong direction.

The plan by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to end protection for nearly every wolf in the lower 48 states will be a devastating blow to wolf recovery. It will be a return to the days when wolves were shot on sight, killed in traps and relentlessly persecuted to the brink of extinction.
Wolves deserve better, and I urge you to halt these plans right away.

What5 so many people are not aware is the Wolf is the first animal to adopt man.
They help to maintain our natural environment and so much more.
They deserve our respect.

Thanks , IcySpots, for the article. Glad it mentioned vultures as there is a certain species that kill calves in KY. .It should have named dogs too as a pack of them recently killed some llamas and mini donkeys near Louisville .
Also farmers and ranchers get reimbursed for livestock killed by predators.

It seems there are more problems with feral dogs in north of Spain than the small wolf packs that are left here in very small spaces.

At first, Dobson just wanted the wolves gone. But he reluctantly agreed to accompany Arizona biologist Chris Bagnoli to a workshop led by wolf-management experts in Montana, where ranchers and wolf defenders had begun working together. What Dobson learned there surprised him: Killing wolves that attack livestock doesn’t solve the problem. That’s because the offending animals have often passed along their knowledge. “You have to reduce the opportunities for wolves and livestock to interact,” Bagnoli explains. “That’s the only way to change pups’ behavior, since pups learn from adults.”
In 2007, Dobson and his wife began herding their livestock daily, and he installed electric fencing to keep wolves out. Although the wolf recovery program helped him with the details, the money came from two conservation groups: Defenders of Wildlife and the Mexican Wolf Fund. “Other cattle guys told me I was taking money from the devil,” says Dobson. “But you know what? It is really working.” With the new strategy, Dobson hasn’t had a single sheep kill, and only one calf has been taken. Bagnoli hopes that federal authorities will take note and improve programs to help ranchers give the humane methods a try.

An amazing project. Here in Spain it seems the very large Martin dogs help protect the flocks. Wolves keep away.

That is a great point to bring Navasolanature….
People here in the US have forgotten many of the Old Ways, and that being proactive is essential to maintain balance in the natural world. The solution seems to them to just ‘eliminate the problem’… kill, kill, kill. All of our wildlife is suffering for it, and especially those species that are threatening to, or ‘in the way’ of big $ enterprises.
The big dogs like your Martins, and the Pyrenees and Burmese Mountain and many other shepherds were bred for just this purpose, to keep predators away. And this worked for many hundreds of years, right? Now they are more like pets here, and the wolves have been hunted to the brink of extinction, throwing everything out of balance.
I have worked with both purebred, and hybrid wolves, and they are such beautiful and highly sensitive beings, so intelligent, and deserve to be left in peace. Unfortunately our wild lands are fast disappearing, or being destroyed by government insanity, and as with Wild Mustangs and wolves, will be extinct if people don’t wake up soon.The suffering is outrageous.
Alot more awareness and advocacy is essential at this ‘tipping point’ in our world.

I hope you can keep trying and spread the word. Norway got a lot of flak for trying to cull its wolf population. Here in Spain it was the dictator Franco who persecuted the wolf. They were around in our area, an area for pigs and chestnuts, only 50 years ago. Now the smaller Iberian wolf is constrained to the north in.

I would sign but not native to USA. I think I don’t have the right zip code. I really respect the way Americans seem to live with wild creatures but there must be the protections as it only takes a few to destroy.

Sorry, correction to my above comment ^^^… that would be the gorgeous Bernese (not ‘Burmese’ lol) Mountain dog…
Also wanted to mention the ‘RollsRoyce’ of shepherds, the great Anatolian. This dog is the best if anyone is interested in a highly evolved, very smart and loyal protector who will get the job done.

Worth noting on this site that wolves are natural predators of wild horses, and especially foals.
