R.T. Fitch

R.T. Fitch’s life has been anything but ordinary. Straight out of high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force Band during the Vietnam era, and while stationed in Hawaii, he spent weekends at Sea Life Park training penguins, sea lions, and whales. His path through life has taken many unexpected turns—including more than a few lessons in love—until meeting his wife, Terry, brought a lasting partnership and a shared passion for animals.
Over the course of his adult career, R.T. worked internationally in multiple countries, gaining a broad, global perspective that colors both his worldview and his writing. Now rooted in Texas, he and Terry live on a small farm surrounded by four-legged companions with paws, claws, and hooves. Together, they have devoted years to equine rescue and wild horse protection.
An ordained volunteer chaplain and professional Santa Claus for a local historical society—with Terry by his side as Mrs. Claus—R.T. brings warmth, wisdom, and joy to every season. His work reflects a life of service, wonder, and connection to both people and animals.
He is the author of Straight from the Horse’s Heart, a moving collection of true rescue stories and spiritual reflections, and Fangs of Light, a supernatural tale steeped in symbolic and metaphorical storytelling. The first in a planned trilogy, Fangs of Light blends myth and mystery to explore themes of identity, redemption, and the power of empathy—offering readers not only suspense and intrigue but a deeper look at the light and shadow within us all.

Feel Good Sunday: Pinto the Pony Plays “Daid”

“We all have a busy week ahead of us so today is the perfect day to laugh, relax a bit and recharge our batteries for what is coming at us just over the horizon. Now, it seems that on human terms every village has an idiot, or does that apply to political parties, and in the domesticated animal world every pasture has a prankster. We have our own red headed ‘Dennis the Menace’ that lives with us on our small ranch and there is not a day that goes by without another installation of stupidity in our ongoing book of life. So we can relate. But in this much publicized case, below, a little pony has found it to be much more comfortable to take a nap laying on his back versus standing on his legs but for some strange reason it appears to drive his guardian absolutely crazy…as you shall see. One thing is for certain, hollering in human English, ‘Pinto get up!’ is a ineffective means of communicating one’s behavioral desires to a sleeping horse. Enjoy.” ~ R.T.

Wyoming Wild Horses Fall into the Feds Cross-hairs, AGAIN

“When it comes to sucking-up to Welfare Cattlemen and violating federal law over the mismanagement of federally protected wild horses and burros there’s nothing like the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to test the depth of the bottom of the barrel over ethics, legal interpretation and out right lack of any morale compass.

Once again, armed with junk science, bad math, collusion and strange bedfellows the BLM plans to attack the dwindling wild horse herds of Wyoming while our current administration sits with its thumb up its backside as it totally ignors the outrage of the not only the American public, but the world.

Personally, I have had enough!” ~ R.T.

Idaho Woman Fined for Removing Wild Horse from Range

“Review of this article indicates that the party involved was trying to do the right thing and help a horse she felt to be in distress. But in the wild, we keep our distance and let nature do what nature does. The only people who can harass, chase, round-up, hold captive, perform morbid tests upon and sell wild burros and horses to slaughter are employees of the BLM; the very agency charged with the responsibility to protect our wild equines is the only exclusive group, outside of welfare ranchers, that is hell bent on finding the “final solution” , destruction and ultimate extinction of or wild horses and burros on our public lands.” ~ R.T.
