The U.S. House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee chaired by Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.VA.), a staunch supporter of protections for wild horses and burros, has launched an investigation into the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion that has resulted in the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and will also examine the administration’s offshore oil and gas policy.
WASHINGTON— The Center for Biological Diversity today filed suit against Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar over his continued approval of offshore drilling plans in the Gulf of Mexico without environmental review. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., seeks to overturn Department of Interior policies exempting oil drilling from the environmental reviews required by the National Environmental Policy Act.

The Obama Administration’s selection of Ken Salazar to the position of Secretary of the Department of Interior has been in question since the day of his appointment. Muddled in rumors of collusion and ineptitude Salazar, a rancher by trade, has made it his hallmark to bumble and stumble his way through mismanaging his federal agency while ignoring congressional inquiries and public opinion.
