from our friends at Cloud’s Blog
Dear Friends;
We have always believed that 20 young Pryor wild horses ages 1-2 could be successfully adopted even during these rough economic times. Now BLM is holding 57 horses and three foals at the Britton Springs Corrals located at the base of the mountain. Most are over 1-2 years of age. We continue to push for BLM to return the oldest back to their home.
I am sad to report that many of Cloud’s progeny have been permanently removed: Rain, Arrow, Image, Ember, Summer and Sage have tags around their necks with numbers. But they will never be numbers to me. They will always be my special children of the wild. Sax (Himalaya), Cloud’s little brother, a buckskin 2 year old, has also been removed from his home. He has always been such a joyous colt, so curious and playful. His fun-loving life has just been shattered and he has no understanding of why this has happened. Neither do I. BLM’s destructive management policies have turned wild horse heaven into hell.
No horses have been treated more unjustly than the Custer National Forest horses. All who were rounded up on Commissary Ridge are to be permanently removed. This was to be a selective removal, but at the last moment, BLM revealed their plan to gut this sub-population and its important genetic lines.
We are hopeful that BLM will show some compassion and return the Forest Service band stallions Conquistador (19 years old), Bo (13), Trigger (12), and Shane (10) back to the designated range with their adult mares. If not into their homeland, than the bands need to be in a setting that is wild. It is important to keep these bands in tact as an essential reservoir from which to draw to shore up the genetics which have been lost in this massive removal.
We are praying that Raven’s mare, Grumpy Grulla (21) will be returned to her precious Pryor home. She was one of the first wild horses I ever saw. This strong-willed Grulla mare brought many smiles to my face as she regularly disciplined her offspring as well as the other foals in Raven’s band including Cloud—hence her name. It is only fitting that she be allowed to live out the last few years of her life in freedom in her spectacular home.
We fight on for the herd and all wild horses still living free on OUR public lands. Keep your calls and letters and emails coming. The voices of the American and world public will surely be heard in time. Never give up! Bless all of you for outpouring of support for Cloud and his herd and our American mustangs.
Happy Trails,
Ginger
(On a very practical note, if you are interested in adopting a Pryor Mustang it is important that you fill out an adoption application which is available on line by going to the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program. I will be doing so when I return to Colorado. The Pryor adoption is scheduled for September 26th in Lovell, Wyoming.)
NOTE: We have received word that the BLM has received some threatening calls. Please tell anyone you hear speak of such threats to stop– the Cloud Foundation does not condone illegal actions and these only hurt our cause and our work to save these horses and those across the west. Please call your Senators and Congress people, the media and of course, The President with your requests for these older horses to be released and for the mismanagement of our wild horses to be reformed. Thank you.

This is such a sad fate for these horses, the older horses should be replaced without a doubt. One question though. I friend of mine who is a horse trainer and therapist filled in an application to adopt a wild mustang over a month and a half ago, online, on the BLM adoption application site. She has not had any response from them. I am not sure why but she and I would certainly be willing to go this auction and adopt one of these younger horses to be trained by her if we actually had some kind of a response. She has the perfect facility to do this. Please let us know what we can do here to get her application processes.
Thanks

If I may suggest, bring a copy of the application with you to the adoption event. They’ll probably be willing to take your copy or you could fill out a new one as they’ll most likely have applications on hand and people who are there to review applications and do on-the-spot approvals. That’s how they did it back in 2003, tho things may have changed.

I just talked to BLM and yes, you can go to the adoption site and fill out an application there, but you DO have to be there to adopt or buy a horse,

Painful to my very being! People need to stop & take a good look around. Our domestic horses are in trouble. Slaughter houses! Come on! Why take our Heritage and Natural Beauty from Their Home, to destroy them? I live in Horse Contry here and with drought last year, hay shortages were strong, grain went up, more horses at sale for meat man to buy & in case u do not know the meat man, he is one that buys your horse to sale for meat. So many abandoned to die, a rescue organization funds went dry and lady starved 30 + horses to death and left carcuses laying on ground and of course authorites were called and she went jail for short stay. So why take these horses from there home, to end up at another dead end. Have u seen millions of horses on line for sale? Have u seen 5,000.00 horses being given away just because??????? Be a voice for them. U know I wrote Sen.’s NC ones anyway and it saddens me how much they care……. Indians once said, if you take something, take it with love-n-respect, but u must give back or there will be nothing left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched a program on the Documentary channel last night called “Wild Horse’s and Renegades”…..it told of the plight of the wild horses roaming the southwest at the hands of some murderous BLM contractors…..including “Cloud the beautiful Stallion”….the woman that videoed all the vids about Cloud & his family was featured several times during the show. It showed all these actors and activists basically begging the BLM to leave them alone…they have several law suits against the BLM now for breaking the wild horse act…..the BLM is trying to exterminate America’s wild horses so they can freely lease BLM (public land) to energy extraction corporations……the plight of wild horse’s is terrible and bad enough in & of itself…but they also admitted that they (BLM) were going to continue leasing out public lands and “padlock” access to these public lands from the general public (who are supposed to own the land), in the guise of limiting the impact on the land……what a joke…..they lease these lands out to these company’s and allow them to do virtually what ever they want to with the land……oil, Uranium, Nat. gas, coal….anything they want….but cut off public access to lower the impact…..this is basically unconstitutional…..as BLM land is supposed to be available for all Americans to use & enjoy.
This deal with the wild horse’s is a disgrace to the American people….if the government (BLM) had their way they would slaughter every wild horse for foreign consumption and be done with it. The use of the helicopter to round these horse’s up is criminal….they seem to want to kill as many as possible during that process….running these horse’s for miles and miles in the dessert heat…..young foals often just die from exhaustion….!! They say now they have 40,000 horse’s in BLM holding pens through out the southwest…..(more than are still running free), no room to move around….no shade….no family’s…..no freedom……such a disgrace to the American west……so sad..!!
It showed one disgusting part in the show where some of the BLM horse’s (from holding pens in Oklahoma) were illegally shipped from Oklahoma to a border town in Texas where they were “slipped” over the border to be slaughtered……it showed this poor gray horse (scared to death) prodded into a concrete chute and the door slammed behind him….where this filthy Mexican (not worth 1/2 of what the horse was)…..took several stabs above and into the back of the horse’s neck, with a small knife where I suppose the spine & vertebrae was damaged to the point the horse fell to it’s knees shaking and vibrating as it died….the tears are flowing as I write this thinking of how many horse’s have and will suffer the same disrespectful death at the hands of such worthless people…..I have never been able to figure out where they find people that can kill or torture animals all day long for a living…..guess Hitler really wasn’t that unique….!!
What a disgrace…..!!!
