Thank you for the up-date. I was so happy to hear about the ban; but then heard it was only temporary. (why, what happened) But a good friend involved with this told me, not this is almost certainly a done deal. I am sad to hear this news.

LNorman, know exactly whatyou’re talking about….Europeans can have the 7+million cattle that are on land belonging to wild horses. I know Iwon’t buy any beef from them. This is rreally sad…so the EU wants our horses..and they don’t care if our horses have drugs in them? They don’t care about helping horses? This is really sad. We can’t give up.

It really pisses me off that over 1 million american horses gave their lives in WW 1, to save european lives… dig up the bones of those american horses on your land and gnaw on that for a momment..you ugrateful bastards

It pains us so much knowing they are being butchered as we speak , we must stop this agony why is the Congress doing nothing we need to vote them all out of there and get people that care about animals:(

What a shock!! Waiting to hear the details. For this was a BIGGY to shut down slaughter over the weekend, There had to be a valid reason. But I imagine more corruption and $$$$, per usual, came into play to start the kill boxes going again. Pray some horses were saved over the weekend that were in the pipeline and abandoned. One horse saved is a triumph. A life! Thank you R.T. I know advocates, in-the-know, are already working on this to save the horses. Prayers & Mercy. Amazing Grace.

Why can’t congress understand that horse slaughter = horse suffering =cancer for humans. It is contaminated meat congress. So, So painful to hear this!

Boy RT, your pain is so obvious to hear. But you’re right it was more than super sweet while it lasted. And really there are some good things that came out of this. Consider this a “dry” run if you will. We rallied, started putting plans together. Jerry told us last night that HfH would not pay killers for the horses but rather use the funds for much needed care.
The other side saw wht will happen next summer when the bans do become effective. We can only hope they are fully enforced.
As disappointing as this news is–I don’t see it as total failure. We had a major learning spree (curve), we have to find our own weaknesses and strengthen those so people don’t donate to honest rescues and so forth.
I hate that this started again. I rejoiced over the weekend. It was good and it was sweet. But we will see victory. And the horses will be safe.

Thank you R.T., very very heartbreaking indeed. I hope nobody will dismiss lightly what I’m about to say, but I truly hope that all horse lovers will consider adopting a vegan lifestyle. If we drive the demand for meat down (cattle), then the horses have a chance, and yes of course we continue to work on the law too, but I don’t see how we can save horses without the majority going vegan….

My hunch is that it’s somewhat political… And linked to the U.S. suspending shipments of meat from Canada while this recall fiasco at XL slaughterhouse plays out. I’m certain it’s connected somehow – Within the flesh-trade it always is.

What about a huge response to the EU by thousands of Americans saying leave our horses alone and if you don’t care what Americans want, at least care about the poisons you are allowing Europeans to eat. Has there been an organized effort to tell the EU what we think besides the excellent investigations by Animals Angels??

As we all wish for our equine companions to end their time on earth at the hands of a gentle and compassionate hand, I am glad that the blow of this news was delivered with the voice of someone who has that same heart. It was a taste of what can be and I believe that we would have rallied to do what was needed. I will take heart in that and we will all be better prepared for the day when such joyous news is forever.

How about a huge response to the EU–we the people of the USA DO NOT want you to eat the horsemeat full of Bute and other chemicals ! If the govt. of the USA can’t/won’t stop the shipments of chemical horses to Canada and Mexico–then it’s up to the people of Europe to NOT purchase it. We Americans DO NOT eat horse meat. I wouldn’t feed it to my friends (nor my dogs). Which means that the US govt. is pleased to sell chemical horses to foreign markets and kill off the eaters. EU–go vegan! Don’t trust “cheval” from the USA !

Yes, why not have a ‘call and email and fax’ blitz to stop this now? Reopening the plants was ugly. We can stand up to the EU, can’t we? Are they as insensitive to all this as our gov’mint?
Who really eats these horses? Aren’t Japan and China big buyers? Sorry I do not know the percentages off the top of my head. But those who consume might be contacted.
It was found that much of the whale meat Japan still manages to procure in killing whales actually goes unsold!! But they have fought like mad to be able to kill whales.

After hearing so many conflicting stories today, I appreciate your message, as I hold your words in “everything horses” in high regard..My heart is heavy..but it only brings on the determination for the constant battle against horse slaughter which rages in me and in many new “friends” I have met. I am so thankful for others who understand and for leader advocates like you, R.T., who keep our focus on the battle ahead, not the losses behind.

it WILL come to pass that this will be a permanent ban. NONE of us will stop until they stop. Yes RT having had just a taste of relief for our horses makes me want to work all that much harder. I’m just going to put aside some funds and keep building them so that when the day comes that this deadly business is over I can help free those horses who so narrowly will have avoided the worst end any horse can experience. Wish I could think of a good battle cry, the only thing that comes to mind is remember the Alamo. Well maybe it should be remember Dallas Crown!!!

this war will go on because of money and greed as usual. Somehow must keep fighting. I want to feel elated again someday when the slaughterhouse pipeline is dismantled forever. If it can stop so quickly for just that little bit of time, that gives hope that it can be stopped again for longer.
What will stop it?
–tainted, cancer causing food source
–not wanted by most Americans
–inhumane treatment of horses
–extermination of U.S. wild mustangs (canary in the ‘gas’ minefield)
how many reasons do the politicians need to stop the slaughterhouse pipeline
to offset the oil, gas, cattle and kill buyers money and greed
need to stay strong to stop it.
