Wild family in Green Mountain where the BLM is running foals to death right now.  Photo: Carol Walker

Our guests tonight are Carol Walker, Dir. of Field Documentation for Wild Horse Freedom Federation and Charlotte Roe, Founder of Wild Equid League of Colorado and Science Advisor to The Cloud Foundation, will discuss: sterilization, a “tool” that the BLM has not given up on using on our wild horses.  We received the very good news that Colorado State University withdrew from the study to spay wild mares on Oregon, but the BLM still has plans to use sterilization on wild horses in the North Lander Complex in Wyoming, potentially using a combination of spaying mares, gelding stallions, GonaCon, and leaving same sex herds, all of which will lead to the extinction of our wild horses.  The BLM stopped selling wild horses and burros in large numbers after their sales to kill buyer Tom Davis were exposed, but the BLM recently changed their policy and will start selling large numbers again, so more wild horses will be sold into the slaughter pipeline.  Also, the BLM is currently rounding up wild horses in the Red Desert Complex in Wyoming and running the horses very fast in very hot conditions, and have run several foals to death already.

Carol’s website is http://www.wildhoofbeats.com/ and you can see her photography of wild horses at http://www.livingimagescjw.com/

This show will be hosted by Debbie Coffey (V.P. and Dir. of Wild Horse Affairs) of Wild Horse Freedom Federation.

  1. Colorado’s largest herd in the news — needs comments, has only one which is ill-informed at best. This HMA hosts thousands of sheep all winter and is also the site of several oil and gas leases. How much do those activities affect the water table? A local historian describes the Sand Wash as “grubbed out” by sheep during the Open Range Wars in the 1800s. These ecosystems are very dry and still transitiioning from those past abuses, as well as modern ones, compounded by drought:
