Saving Animals Through Advocacy

Few causes are able to unite people such as Lorenzo Borghese from ABC’s The Bachelor, actors Bo Derek and John Corbett, school children and animal welfare organizations, but all of these people and groups got together last week to participate in the “Horses on the Hill” event on Capitol Hill. The ASPCA was proud to co-host, along with the Animal Welfare Institute and The Humane Society of the United States, this event in which we publicly urged legislators to stop our nation’s horses from being slaughtered at home or abroad.

Anti-Horse Group Stumbles in Attempt to Justify Horse Slaughter

On February 1st of this year American Society for the Prevention for Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) released the results of a poll compiled by one of the country’s most respected pollsters, Lake Research Partners, which clearly identified that 80% of the U.S. public is resolute in the fact that horse slaughter should not be reintroduced into the United States. EWA Answers “United Horsemen” Anti-Rodeo Propaganda

The first reading of the horse tripping was held yesterday and went well. Several of our advocates have been working hard and I want to send a special thanks to Willis Lamm, Eric Mills, Carrol Abel, Beverly McGrath and especially to ASPCA for sponsoring the bill. My apologies if I missed anyone but I don’t have the names of everyone that has been working this. Our opponents are still trying to pull the HSUS rhetoric and did so at the meeting and were corrected. No doubt, they’ll continue to say HSUS is behind this and out to ban rodeos.
