Wild Horses Symbolize U.S. Freedom

The image of hundreds of wild horses freely roaming the open terrain in the American West is reminiscent of times past and our country’s trailblazing heritage. However, on July 10, the 200 wild horses galloping frantically across a breathtaking Nevada plain, with dust swirling around their sweaty bodies, were running in fear. With dry summer heat reaching 95 degrees, these horses were forced to run for miles over rough volcanic rock in an attempt to escape the government’s low-flying helicopter in pursuit. It is foaling season and many of the mares and foals were weak from their recent pregnancy or from giving birth.

Comments? We don’t need no stinkin’ comments! “King” Salazar doesn’t really care what you think!

Ken Salazar, quite possibly one of the most insidious characters to occupy an appointed federal office since maybe, Donald Rumsfeld, has just topped his own high measure of malfeasance. Heading up what has become notorious for being one of the most grossly mismanaged agencies of the federal government, the Department of the Interior (DoI), Salazar has set into motion some of the worst plans and policies ever implemented by the DoI. Among these policies is the eradication and zeroing out of herds of wild horses and burros all supposedly protected under the 1976 Wild Horse & Burro act.

Ignorance is Bliss When the Subject is Horse Slaughter

Every once in a while, I come across a blog or comment that is just so ludicrous that it has to be shared. This is small blog that is very much content with posting comments to themselves. Rarely will you see more than a few comments and it’s always the same three people. I periodically check to see what new tales they have concocted. Since we know the slaughter proponents are trying to make light of the drug issue, this one caught my eye.

Horse-Eaters Continue to Spread Rumors and Lies

This is yet another attempt by Wallis to stereotype everyone that believes that animals should be treated humanely as animal terrorists. Since when does compassion for animals make you a terrorist? We are not rushing into feedlots and pulling out horses or livestock in the dead of night. We are not burning down auctions, feedlots or trucks. We are not threatening anyone’s lives. We are advocating for the welfare of animals through print and phone calls. Yes, we’ve had several peaceful rallies for the wild horses but that is far from destructive, violent protests. If anything, those that wish to harm animals are the individuals that start name calling and threatening us. One only has to read the comments on articles to see who is out of control and can’t have a civil conversation. One only has to read Sue Wallis’ comments.
