On March 19th, 2010 the Associated Press (AP) released a bare-bones story on the number of Wild Horses that continue to die in Nevada while under the care of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
HOUSTON, (Horseback) – The federal Bureau of Land Management has punted on whether it employed a veterinarian on its Calico roundup who is not licensed in the State of Nevada. Responding to a query by Horseback Magazine regarding the credentials of Dr. Albert Kane, the BLM referred questions to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal, and Plant Health Inspection Service.

As had been feared, the BLM has announced that effective immediately, visits to the 320-acre Indian Lakes Road facility where the wild horses rounded up from Nevada’s Calico Mountain Complex will be restricted to a two-hour window on Sundays, by appointment only.
Contrary to assurances from the Bureau of Land Management, dozens of horses were killed during the Calico roundup. What’s more, the horses are still dying inside government corrals because of injuries suffered during their frightening run across tough terrain.
I swear, there’s just no winning for losing. Only hours after we heard that the BLM had postponed the highly controversial Eagle round-up we learn that another assault is being planned at the Twin Peaks Management area in southeastern California. Same bad numbers, same junk science and twisted interpretation of the law.
HOUSTON (SFTHH) – Friday, the 5th of February, seemed more like Groundhog’s Day than did February 2nd. There was an unpleasant odor of déjà vu in the air all thanks to the bumbling and mumbling of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
