As the sequester bore down on Washington, the dire warnings from the Obama administration gave the impression that wild horses couldn’t drag another dime out of the treasury for a whole host of vital government services. Aircraft carrier refueling, the Head Start program, and White House tours were among the high profile victims.
However, as it turned out, wild horses, with a little help from burros, managed to drag $6,000,000 out of the taxpayers’ wallets for Helicopter Flight Services two weeks after the sequester went into effect. The same government website that posted the contracts for Vice President Biden’s London and Paris hotel costs and Paris limo costs has the details:

I’m afraid I have to agree with you and it’s a damn shame! As always, it’s the innocent who suffer and all those who have a heart to care. It’s really time to take the bull by the horns and do something about all the over spending and irresponsible behavior by the greedy politicians, who certainly are not looking out for the citizens! If actions speak louder than words and they do, we have some real problems ahead. )-: God help these magnificent and beautiful creatures, who are totally harmless and want nothing more than to live peacefully on the land that is rightfully theirs.

Can’t stop being horrified by Pres. O’Bama and the henchmen of BLM. The $6 million for the helicopter roundups allotment is unbelievable. We all need to pray and work harder. What is wrong with this picture????? Why is everyone who is in charge so against and hateful of these horses and burros?

Because they are plundering Public Lands for private profits and horses/burros are in the way. Barrick Gold is a welfare rancher extracting approx. 1 gold bar per truck load of rock & earth strip mined and using cyanide in their gold dust extraction process. Just one example of the plunder & theft of resources from Amerian taxpayers. Kleptocracy: a government or state in which those in power exploit national resources and steal; rule by a thief or thieves.

I wonder if BLM considers hunting hogs to be “similar” experience to qualify Skyhawk’s helicopter pilots to roundup wild horses. (The helicopter pilots are required to have a certain amount of hours rounding up wild horses or similar experience. One can hunt wild hogs alot cheaper than employing helicopters….sounds like a USDA and DOI pork the taxpayer scheme.

The only good news I’ve heard in the last few days is that there are people trying to get Oklahoma’s new horse slaughter law on a ballot initiative. Now only if it could work!

Dear sir or madam.
I am very upset about all of this horse slaughter facilities reopening in U. S, but to be honest it never really stopped our horses and burros from being slaughter all along for human consumption. The closing of the horse facility was only closed to give American people a false sense of security and to shut us activist up. This was never really a win for the horses and for the activists who worked so hard to stop this embarrassement. Most people aren’t aware of these atrocities perpetrated towards our equines. Why haven’t activist got together to place it on TV letting the American know what our government is doing to our horses by creating an informational media on tv to let the people know that they are being forced to pay taxes to resume horse slaughtering. We need to let them know that we are paying for the slaughter .

Believe me Simone, There are plenty of activists out there trying to get this on the news or on one of the many gut wrenching ASPCA infomercials. We’re still fighting for what is right and those that are right, in all ways, they will win. You must call your congressmen, senators, elected officials and let them know what you think. There’s dozens of ways to do that. It’s easy info to look up. You just have to have the want to do it, and not sit back and hope other people are doing it. I don’t mean that disrespectively. Gotta make a stand with the US of A. It’s out of control.

The White House belongs to the people. It will always be “the people’s house” and he really can’t stop the tours that go thru there. It’s our house, these are our horses. We voted these people in and we can get them out. One foot in front of the other.

R.T. thank you for keeping us up-to date. This just doesn’t seem right with the Government spending $6MM on helicopter roundups. Something is very wrong in our Government. What will they do with the wild horses just warehouse them. The Government should just leave the wild horses and burros alone on the land that has been provided for them.

Some will be sold to kill buyers and they will be sent to Mexico for slaughter. I guess the last Sec of the Interior or Agric was allowing a crooked contractor in CO to buy horses cheap and then they were sent to Mexico for slaughter. Then, suddenly, there was the horsemeat scandal in Europe. I hope that those involved are proud of themselves. Can you imagine getting rich off of having horses slaughtered for human consumption. Thats like watching a bad and horrifying . I am so ashamed of some people in this country who were in Congress and the BLM. The crooked horse buyers should be put in prison.

Its all about who is running the country. It definitely isn’t the President. I think he would protect the horses, if he could, but its whoever agency is in control. It is all getting to be a big bad joke and people are becoming more and more aware of it. The ranchers and Cattle Association pull the strings in Congress just like the NRA does. We the People don’t really count. We are just the taxpayers and the workers.

They intend to slaughter the Wild Horses. We must get the R.O.A.M. reinstated, the new Secretary of Interior acting in behalf of the Wild Horses, the penned horses returned to the wild, and the SAFE Act passed and signed.

I doubt they are going to release the horses that are already in BLM holding facilities. The ranchers don’t want that and I doubt the oil companies do either. Again, it isn’t about the horses, its about the $$. How about that AH in Colorado who thinks that horse foal steaks are delicious. Its evil humans like that who need to be rounded up and sent to Europe for dinner. Sorry, but that is how I feel.

This is absolutely insane!!!! Programs are cut to that we can provide $6 Million to the BLM..Thanks for the great information. I am emailing this information now and I am requesting an answer too. And letting them know the great possiblility of slaughtering our Wild Horses and Burros…Again, thanks for the great info. It contains all the necessary information to burn their butts off..

The horses will dissappear like the Buffalo did. Your grandkids or great grandkids will read about the wildhorses of the West in History books. I have lived in Nevada since 1986, but never saw large herds of wildhorses. If there are so many thousands of them, you would think they would be seen in larger amounts, instead of small bands here and there. They will disappear fast.

We’ve never been able to get our mind around the reality that it is the Obama administration that is pushing the elimination of wild horses and burros on public land. It is abundantly clear, and anyone who voted for him gave him the opportunity to finish the job he hired Ken Salazar to start, though the system was in place with a little help from his friends. There are a few advocates in the position to know this, but they kept quiet. This makes wonder who is really for what when it comes to our wild horses. When you want to solve a problem, you have to get to the truth& we didn’t with a little help from our “friends.”. God help our horses now.

What part of this misses sequestration? I thought sequestration meant that the Government couldn’t just up and willy nilly spend spend spend. Yet that’s apparently just what they’re doing.
And who is this new roundup group anyway? Is it part of Sun J? Or is it a reincarnation of them? Who’s in charge of all this excessive spending when there is NO MONEY!

loss of democracy is a fait accompli, people are so dumb that they still believe obama’s words when he’s doing the oposite in plain site with no attempt at concealment of the contradiction. reminds me of that where the woman catches her husband in the act of cheating on her, and he just says “It wasn’t me” and she believes him!!! When people’s actions contradict their words, believe the actions!!! we need fundamental government change to wrest control of out gov from special interests, and i don’t think it can be done peacfully at this point.

BLM, When will you show us the round up schedule for the 6 to 10 or more roundups you have now got the money to do? You will wait as long as possible to tell us… but tell us you had better.

The Burros in Nevada are going to be removed. Down to below viability. From a Burro Preserve! Forest Service is behind this. We need to stop this one.
Removals from the lands our wild horses and burros were born on is simply illegal. We have got to find a way to get the 1971 Act enforced.
Please visit an HMA this summer. Show your support and share it with your reps and the states you visit! Celebrate our wild horses. Put your presence out there!
