Horse Slaughter plants in New Mexico and Iowa lost their bid to begin killing American horses, next week, when a Federal Judge granted a Temporary Restraining Order against their operation this day.

Front Range Equine Rescue, HSUS and others had filed suit against the USDA and their arguments were deemed valid by a Federal Judge on August 2nd, 2013.

HSUS president and CEO Wayne Pacelle issued this statement: “We’ve won a temporary but life-saving reprieve for horses, and it’s good news indeed that the kill boxes in New Mexico and Iowa will be empty of horses in the weeks ahead. “<

“We’ve won a significant victory for the horses and we look forward to fighting on to end the slaughter of America’s horses once and for all.” stated Hilary Wood, plaintiff and President of Front Range Equine Rescue.

    • YAY-YAY-YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – With that said – I think we should consider the real possibility of a nationwide meat industry BOYCOTT to assure the passage of the SAFE Act – I’ve already given up red meat – I’m READY!! Tell me where to start.

      • Arlene, my email is zoobabies1@hotmail.com – I’m fairly new to this – but am willing to work on ways to get the SAFE Act passed – including a national boycott of the meat/beef industry – also might be a good idea to boycott the oil industry over the BLM’s wild horse round-ups – and, an advertising campaign like billboards in DC of the horse slaughter & round-up atrocities.

    • Anybody hear anything about the “arson” case in Roswell? Will the feds be busting De Los Santos for Arson & Insurance Fraud? – Soon – I Hope ( I guess his insurance doesn’t cover federal injunctions, so he had to resort to arson)

      • Kim, I don’t think it is the settings because several others have commented that reading and seeing these comments have become difficult to see. I know it is the same with mine.

  4. This is wonderful news! Now if only our government would get off their duffs and get this anti slaughter legislation passed before this temporary injunction runs out, we will be in good shape! Thank you so much to everyone who stood up for the horses and especially the judge who did what is only right! Happy Day!

  5. I’m wondering what kind of people would eat horses. Congress passed laws to protect the horses years ago, why would they suddenly allow greed and evil to take over. I get this really bad picture of these people who want to bring back horse slaughter.

  6. This is wonderful news. The writing comes out gray against a black background. My sixty year old eyes are having a hard time seeing the writing from all the comments. Please remember with all this wonderful news, it is a temporary reprieve and Mexico and Canada is still open to horrify us and inflict unmentionable cruelty onto our big friends.

    • I agree – I think we should try a nationwide BOYCOTT of the MEAT industry to assure the passage of the SAFE Act – since the meat (beef) industry has played an integral role in furthering the horse slaughter platform – as well as an OIL BOYCOTT because of their role in the BLM’s roundups of the wild horses

  7. I pray we can put an end to them being sent to Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered……preventing the plants from opening in the US does not mean that they are safe, actually they will endure much more cruelty on their long hauls out of this country. We need to put an end to all slaughter of our beloved equines.

  8. Funny ealier today i told my horses hangin there im still working on it, stopping slaughter. I was so happy to tell these animals we.r winning, thank God. Battles not over yet. But just today a killer buyer working on the aqha board contacted me to argue how i get my facts against slaughter. After several messages i realized he really didnt read what said, he wanted the watered down internet version of the facts on the internet and didnt like my response to call the agencies and Dekalb law enforcement to find out. So a subtle you be careful what you say and called me a liar. Now my source is LAW Enforcement, my own eye witness expiriences, The CDC, and Dekalb Ill and Illinois folks. So i waz really pleased, no i lie, i danced, i turned up the radio and we all applauded thanked God and danced. It felt good, better than a trophy saddle! So O am i so happy that man took a moment of his life to tell me Law Enforcement wasnt an official source thats exactly what i told the Officer living next door with horsed, he laughed, said to each their own! So clink the glasses tonight and work more together to stop this. As for me im gonna go ban me a killer buyer from facebook.

    • Cynthia, you’re very brave to talk to a kill buyer who threatens you – you can file charges if needed for telephone harassment &/or general harassment – & possibly federal, if he harasses you online – check with your state’s penal codes – & ask a local cop to tell you how to “CYA” in the future

  9. How about a senate investigation on how and why the wild horses are being rounded up to be killed? If ranchers can’t share public land they are renting for peanuts, then shey should get out! They have no business lobbying for our horses, wolves and other wildlife to be killed just so the can feed their cattle at taxpayer expense! Enough is enough! Boycott all Beef!
