“I regret to inform you that Speaker of the House, John Boehner, currently refuses to bring the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act to the floor for a vote. His decision is inconsistent with leadership’s stated preference for adhering to regular order. Furthermore, it is too late in the year to resort to a discharge petition according to House rules.
“I am sad that a bill which 70 percent of the House of Representatives support, including 115 Republicans, can’t be brought to a vote. I am particularly frustrated because many horses will continue to be abused on a daily basis, unless the PAST Act becomes law.
“There have been thousands of sound horse advocates as well as numerous groups such as the American Horse Council, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, National Sheriffs Association, Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, and the veterinary medical associations from 50 states that have helped create vast support for this bill.
“I will not give up. I remain dedicated to ending the rampant practice of soring and I encourage everyone to ramp up their efforts to do the same.”

What more does it take?! Disgusting….make your voices heard, folks! The PAST Act must become law to end the suffering, once and for all! Call Speaker Boehner @ 202.225.0600 to make your voice heard.

Mr. Boehner, You need to put your special interests aside and start representing your constituents in the United States. We are against this type of abuse against horses and expect you to stand with us. You will not be in an office again once you are out as far as I am concerned. You are a disgrace to the republican party!!!

The House representatives make nearly $175,000 per year! That’s 24 times what I earn in one year. They have done (nearly) nothing this year except obstruct progress in this country. Vote them OUT. “My” representative most certainly does not represent me in the least.
When I wrote to “my” senator, Marco Rubio, about horse issues, he sent a bulk e-mail, totally denying anything I requested. Used to be these Congress people actually represented their constituents, but not anymore.

Again, what needs to happen is a mass protest at either his district office or preferably a protest outside his office in Washington, DC showing pictures of the severely abused horses. I’m that there is no shortage of documentation – All standing with Representative Ed Whitfield including those Legislators on both sides
If they have the Kahunas! I will guarantee you that Representative Ed Whitfield will be given national news coverage. This character has stayed at the prom far too long
as some of the others. Americans pay the Boener’s salary, he should be working for the American people. This was the only way we got rid of that cancerous horse slaughter plant in Illinois owned by that Belgium company. We all need to hold his feet to the fire! My call will be made on Monday with a visit to my US Rep Dan Lipinski office on the far south side of Chicago. How disgusting!!!

Of course, there will be nothing else done because this is their August recess! The only thing on the docket before they leave is the suit against Obama for the Health care act! Not immigration, not VA help, certainly not the PAST Act! What a bunch of absolute losers!

Did the illustrious Mr. Boehner give any reasons for his actions? None are described in the article and it would be useful to understand his rationale (if any) for his “no-brainer Boehner” actions here.

If I remember correctly, APHIS is supposed to be in charge enforcing of the PAST ACT. Given the conflicting roles that APHIS is supposed to plan with regard to horses, livestock, and our pets and their humans under federal and international law, Speaker Boehner may not want to give USDA/APHIS/WS one more reason to get involved with horse, livestock, and pets.

HH, these are reasonable “maybes” but did Mr. Boehner give any reasons himself or simply fail to act without espousing any reasons for so doing?
