There’s a new resident on the Outer Banks, the first foal born this year to the historic Corolla wild horse herd.
They have yet to determine the sex of the foal which was born on Sunday, but the Corolla Wild Horse Fund reports that both mom and baby are in good condition.
It’s been named Renzi, in honor of Melissa Renzi who made her first visit to the Outer Banks last weekend. The woman has been in hospice care since 2017, suffering from several terminal illnesses, and seeing the wild horses was on her bucket list.
The Corolla herd numbers about 100 Colonial Spanish Mustangs, and is one of only two groups of this highly threatened breed left in the wild.
Also known as banker horses, it is believed they were brought to the Outer Banks by Spanish explorers in the 16th century.
The Fund usually sees around six births a year.

We pick up SO MANY balloons on the beach every week. Please don’t release them. And if you do use balloons as decorations please pop and dispose of them properly when you’re done. They blow out of trash cans and garbage trucks too
