R.T. Fitch

R.T. Fitch’s life has been anything but ordinary. Straight out of high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force Band during the Vietnam era, and while stationed in Hawaii, he spent weekends at Sea Life Park training penguins, sea lions, and whales. His path through life has taken many unexpected turns—including more than a few lessons in love—until meeting his wife, Terry, brought a lasting partnership and a shared passion for animals.
Over the course of his adult career, R.T. worked internationally in multiple countries, gaining a broad, global perspective that colors both his worldview and his writing. Now rooted in Texas, he and Terry live on a small farm surrounded by four-legged companions with paws, claws, and hooves. Together, they have devoted years to equine rescue and wild horse protection.
An ordained volunteer chaplain and professional Santa Claus for a local historical society—with Terry by his side as Mrs. Claus—R.T. brings warmth, wisdom, and joy to every season. His work reflects a life of service, wonder, and connection to both people and animals.
He is the author of Straight from the Horse’s Heart, a moving collection of true rescue stories and spiritual reflections, and Fangs of Light, a supernatural tale steeped in symbolic and metaphorical storytelling. The first in a planned trilogy, Fangs of Light blends myth and mystery to explore themes of identity, redemption, and the power of empathy—offering readers not only suspense and intrigue but a deeper look at the light and shadow within us all.

A Stroll Down “Horse Slaughter” Memory Lane

“Back in 2005 when the Belgians were murdering American horses in both Texas and Illinois the Wall Street Journal published an article on the subject which the then mayor of one of the Texas towns blemished and wounded by a bloody slaughterhouse took issue with. That mayor was the well respected and talented Paula Bacon of Kaufman, Texas. Mayor Bacon’s fight with the foreign scourge that bloodied America’s soil is epic and she will forever be remembered as one of America’s great and iconic heroines.

That same battle goes on today as even though the plants have been shuttered an elected official from distant Wyoming has reared her ugly head and aligned herself with the very same players that once darkened the American Equine Industry. Wyoming State Rep. “Slaughterhouse” Sue Wallis has chosen to sleep with the foreign enemy of the American horse and to ignore the voice of the U.S. public while Mayor Bacon bends to no Belgian wallet and to this day stands in defense of the American way of life, the principles that make this country great and the common decency that sets us apart from those who prey upon the weak and helpless.

Today’s post is a testimony to strength, honesty and commitment; virtues not understood nor possessed by those who center their lives on the killing and consumption of companion animals.

Equine Welfare Groups Work Solutions That Horse-Haters Don’t Want To Hear

NCINITAS, CA – National Equine Resource Network (NERN) and a group of colleagues including equine vets, vet students, and equine rescue sanctuaries gelded a total of 100 stallions and colts throughout central California. This week-long rolling series of low-cost gelding clinics potentially reduced the future horse population of the state by 500, at a time when the continuing economic downturn has significantly reduced the number of good homes available for horses.

Actress Bo Derek joins Sen. Mary Landrieu to push for ban on horse slaughter

Washington – Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., brought some celebrity power to the Capitol Wednesday to build support for her legislation that would prohibit inhumane killing of American horses for food. Actress Bo Derek, best known for the 1979 romantic comedy,”10,” and speaking for the Animal Welfare Institute, pushed for passage of the bill. So did Amy Nelson, singer Willie Nelson’s daughter, and Raelyn Nelson, his granddaughter, saying they were speaking on Nelson’s behalf and his love for horses.

Obama’s BLM “Slaughter” Advisory Board Shows True Colors on First Day

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has created for themselves yet another PR nightmare with the new appointments of Anti-Horse/Pro-Slaughter activists to their beleaguered and special interest Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Council. Self proclaimed wild horse hater Callie Hendrickson did her homework and is well aware of the massive public outcry over her appointment to the board as she has spent the last several years of her live trying to wipe out the last of the federally protected free roaming wild horses in Colorado. With all of the bad press, she didn’t step across the line in her self-indulgent introduction, today, at day one of the biased BLM meeting being held in Reno, NV.

BLM Nat. Wild Horse and Burro “Slaughter” Advisory Board Meets Today

Due to a paying job taking priority over domestic travel Terry and I will not be in Reno, NV, today and tomorrow for the gathering of the BLM’s hand picked grazing, cattle, hunting and slaughter special interest Advisory Board meeting where the end and destruction of our national icons will be discussed and planned. Seasoned advocates are well aware that this bogus board ignores and rejects mass public opinion when it comes to the issue of saving the last few federally protected wild horses and burros on public lands but during this meeting all advocates should do their best to declare with disdain the appointment of self-proclaimed horse-hater and slaughter supporter, Callie Hendrickson.
