A Nation full of Anger, a Corral Full of Wild Horses and the BLM Hits the Replay Button

Yesterday, out on the range, roamed a dust covered and weary car full of anger and frustration.

Perhaps it was because its occupants had just climbed to the top of a ridge to watch a green and dangerous contract helicopter pilot chase a band of four wild horses across a mountain top and into a treacherous canyon only to release them. The release was good, but in that four was a very pregnant mare and a foal. Couldn’t the BLM contract pilot have figured out that was animal cruelty in Nevada about 8 miles earlier?

Wild horses: BLM Backs Off Plan to Zero Out West Douglas Herd

There aren’t a lot of wild horses left in Colorado, but a small herd of mustangs fifty miles north of Grand Junction just got a reprieve. Besieged by legal challenges of its plan to relocate “excess” horses from public lands to private holding facilities and pastures, the Bureau of Land Management has abruptly withdrawn its latest proposal to remove the West Douglas herd — an isolated but hearty group of a hundred horses near Rangely that’s been targeted for decades.

The BLM’s Internal “Investigation”: The Fox Guarding the Henhouse

After the many horrific photos and videos of the Antelope HMA wild horse gather being conducted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) contractor, Sun J, the BLM Review Team appointed to do an internal investigation (AKA cover-up) found “no violation by wild horse gather contractor of existing BLM policy and procedures” and Director Bob Abbey called for a “NEW NORMAL” for doing business.

Obama’s BLM Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board to Meet in March

The Bureau of Land Management announced today that the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board will hold a two-day meeting in Phoenix on March 10-11. The two-day event will take place at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 340 N. 3rd Street, Phoenix, Arizona, 85004. (The hotel phone number for reservations is 1-800-325-3535.) The Thursday, March 10, meeting is set for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time; the hours of the Friday, March 11, meeting are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. The business agendas for the two days appear on page 7231 of today’s Federal Register (Wednesday, Feb. 9).
