A Public Service Announcement by Simone Netherlands of Respect4Horses
Last week Lauryn and I attended Summit of the Live Horse in Oklahoma City, organized by our friend and a true friend of all horses, Simone Netherlands of Respect4Horses. Our summit was scheduled to coincide with the Summit of the Horse, an event many of us affectionately refer to as the “Slaughterhouse Summit” or “The Summit of the Dead Horse.” Then, just a couple weeks out, the organizers of the pro-slaughter affair called off their event. We hope it was for lack of support!
Animal advocates from across the U.S. met in Oklahoma City and on-line Tuesday to talk about horse meat.
Horse slaughter is legal in the U.S. again, but they want to stop horse slaughter from happening here in Oklahoma.

Can we trust anyone? This lovely looking horse trainer lady pretended to give horses a good home, and sold them to kill instead. Her constant deceiving and lying is not the exception amongst kill buyers, it is the rule.
Many a previous owner would be distraught and traumatized if they knew of the torturous ways in which their former companion has come to its bitter end. The predatory horse slaughter industry doesn’t only victimize horses, it victimizes people.
Phoenix, AZ (March 9, 2011)- Dances with Wolves Author, Michael Blake, filmmaker Ginger Kathrens, artist Laura Leigh, author R.T. Fitch and equine advocate Simone Netherlands will be joined by advocate Madeleine Pickens at the wild horse advocates’ press conference tomorrow. The conference will be followed by the controversial Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Advisory Board Meeting beginning Thursday afternoon. All events will take place at the Downtown Sheraton Hotel (340 N. 3rd street) in Phoenix. The media and the interested public are both encouraged to attend the press conference from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10th. A candlelight vigil will take place on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in memory of every horse that has died at the hands of the BLM. On Friday March 11, advocates will protest from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., calling for a stop to the roundups, after the public comment period of the BLM Advisory Board Meeting.

Groups are calling for an immediate halt to all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) roundups that are destroying the last of America’s wild herds at enormous and escalating taxpayer expense. The media and the interested public are encouraged to attend this public press conference at the Phoenix Sheraton Downtown Hotel (340 N. 3rd street) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10th.
