On 2/10/2011, during the Antelope wild horse roundup in Nevada, and the day before Tom Gorey of the BLM issued a press release (below) on BLM’s investigation into their contractor, Sun J Livestock, Inc., the Sun J truck was found to be in violation of several DOT regulations.

HOUSTON, (Horseback) – An employee in the Denver office of the federal Bureau of Land Management has been outed as advocating a hunting season for wild horses in the west.
The employee’s email was traced after it was sent to author R.T. Fitch’s “Straight From the Horse’s Heart” blog. Fitch, a fierce opponent of current BLM stampede, capture, and hold, policies traced the email address to BLM NOC OC-330, Denver Federal Center, Bldg 40 – the agency’s National Operations Center.
For you long term readers, you may remember during last November, click (HERE), when we caught a BLM employee using government equipment on government time writing to this blog with a user name of “Animal Abuser” and a fake email address of AAbuserAfterYOU.. Well once again another BLM employee, bored from suckling on the teat of the Federal government, has written to this blog with the recommendation that the only true way to manage wild horses is to open up a hunting season on them.
Bob Abbey, the Director of the BLM, claims his primary job is promoting the wild horse and burro program and securing funds for the program. But do his omissions and deceptions of the program deserve the Americans’ tax dollars? The wild horse and burro program was to protect our wild horses and burros on the range as our symbols of freedom. It was not to tear them away from their lands, families, bands and to commit them as prisoners to flat, barren corrals.
This analysis was not conducted with the intent of submitting comments in opposition of the round-up but instead to understand the White River Field Office’s reasoning for why this roundup should take place. There is acknowledgement of the history of this management area; but also how it’s past administration may now be contributing to the perception of range degradation and overpopulation. Also, there may be some personal bias evident and for that I apologize; I have tried to view this with a clinical eye and simply report facts as outlined in the Preliminary Environmental Assessment.
Update July 19, 2011: The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has now denied an emergency motion for an injunction to stop the Triple B roundup pending an appeal of U.S. District Court Judge McKibben’s order. Last week Judge McKibben denied a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the roundup.
Ah, July’s sizzling hot days in Las Vegas turn into mild evenings and mellow the most work-weary of us. Summer may be our desert’s harshest season of the year, but evening gentles us into peace and rest, a scarce and wonderful thing in today’s world. This past Saturday night we spent with wild horses, a BBQ by a high altitude lake, and a full moon that reminded me of all those beautiful years I spent in the African veldt (bush) when the elephants and zebra, giraffe and lion could breathe easy at summer sundown. The thirst, fatigue, and the hunt for food paused. All of us, human or 4-footed, relaxed and luxuriated in the soft, warm evening air.
I ran across this article on the internet over the weekend and it caught my eye not because I am a pervert, deviant or attracted to violence but because it scared me to death on several different levels:

Today is Sunday and as all of you regular readers know we try to pull away from the bad and highlight the good. Likewise, my lovely bride rarely asks me to highlight a topic but from halfway around the world she is politely asking me to speak up on how everyone is so very precious and important to our ultimate mission to gain equitable justice for our national icons, the “federally protected” wild horses and burros.
