The Force of the Horse

Wild Horse 12 Days of Christmas

lyrics by R.T. Fitch, author of “Straight from the Horse’s Heart

(to be sung to the tune of “The 12 days of Christmas”)

On the first day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
One rogue BLM agency.

On the second day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the third day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Seven slaughter setups,
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Eight dead horses,
Seven slaughter setups,
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Nine laws a-breaking,
Eight dead horses,
Seven slaughter setups,
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Ten ranges barren,
Nine laws a-breaking,
Eight dead horses,
Seven slaughter setups,
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Eleven States now ruined,
Ten ranges barren,
Nine laws a-breaking,
Eight dead horses,
Seven slaughter setups,
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
Ken Salazar gave me
Twelve million heartbreaks,
Eleven States now ruined,
Ten ranges barren,
Nine laws a-breaking,
Eight dead horses,
Seven slaughter setups,
Six agents lying,
Five bogus dates,
Four wiped-out herds,
Three covert round ups,
Two convict pilots,
And one rogue BLM agency.

  1. I will not quit. I will not give up. I will not go away.

Judge Friedman, to you I speak: When you asked about the equines in holding I knew where you were going. I knew because the question had nothing to do with this specific case, but the implication that you were being asked to address, potentially a dysfunctional organization. I’m saddened that you neither had the courage or legal mind to address the petition or the implications.

No matter, Sir…we will overcome. Truth, some justice and beauty always overcomes. Sad that you couldn’t become a part of obvious change. In the meantime, you have a blessed holiday all the while knowing that equines have, are and will be run down in the most wretched of weather conditions with many permits for cattle and sheep on that very same land. If they are lucky, they will die quickly. If they are unluckly, Cattoor and the equicide Nazi’s (BLM, Slaughterczar, Abbey, Lesperance)will warehouse them in perpetuity with pseudo adoption and death/slaughter leakage. But you skipped that too, SIR.

But you have a great holiday Sir. Justice and truth will have to wait for another day and knight.

  2. There are a couple of points I would like to make my fellow advocates.

Since obviously we are getting no where in a court where there is several misconceptions that I will list…. Please make sure, when making posts, writing articles, filing lawsuits etc. and in general when referring to what’s going on please make these points understood. This is a direction we need to move if we are going to get support for the horses and it helps if we are all on the same page. John and Jane Q Public know there is a problem, but they still believe BLM/DOI propaganda. We need to make sure they hear the truth about….

    1. non native…we all know our horses are indigenous, but need make sure the public knows. We also need to have someone introduce legislation that considers the American Mustang and Burro wildlife with the proof of their DNA, and get it passed.

    2. over population….the only lie in which people still believe from the BLM…and they have jumped on it and are now using ‘spin’ words like “population explosion”, “out of control” etc. (see any article or comment coming from these mafia jerks and you will see it there.)

It is subliminal and we have to disprove it…. a) Finding funding either with a grant or with one of the groups that has resources, or if someone knows someone that is willing to donate aircraft and hours to do a complete aerial census, I’m sure many would volunteer to do the actual counting. That way we have fighting power.

    b) make sure you mention horses have fewer numbers than most animals on the endangered species list! They do infact have less numbers than polar bears right now! Reduculous when antelope and deer populations in NV alone are well over 750,000 and cattle and sheep are close to 2 million. That doesn’t even include other grass eating species that also complete for forage.

    3. horses are NOT “euthanized” before, during, or after round ups … they are NOT gently held in someones arms while the vet administers drugs…they are brutally shot in masses! That means those that are not shot hear the gunshots, cries for help, screams of agony, the smell of blood, and see their herd mates drop. They are absolutley terrified, and especially if this happens during round up. So PLEASE do not refer to it as euthanasia, it is down right slaughter and correct anyone else that does! If you are quoting a news article in your post please put in (slaughter) so that people get the message. Two can play the subliminal word spin game, and we need to fight back by leaving a question in the reader/listeners mind that doesn’t know any better and is exposed to BLM/DOI propaganda spins.

    4. It is absolutely cruel and inhumane to round up horses anytime but most of all in the dead of winter.

Aside from whatever injuries are occured from running in deep snow (anything from pulled muscles, tendons, broken bones, falls etc) their immune systems will most likely be compromised due to a) fear b) lungs having to breathe frigid temperatures while being run for miles. Additionally horses breaking out in sweat which will take long hair much more time to dry out exposing them to even more immune compromises. Not only do they suffer from these conditions they are at great risk for conditions known as ‘tying up’ where their liver ceases to function and colic. There will be no vet available to ‘treat’ a horse with these conditions…they will be make to suffer a prolonged painful death until their guts literaily explode or their liver shutting down will poison their whole system. Non horse folks general know nothing of these conditions. You can explain to them it would be like having the worst gas pains you have ever had in your life for hours on end and eventually dying from it. A twisted colic can make a horse suffer for anywhere from 12 to 48 hours before death finally occurs.

The inhumaneness of round ups needs to be addressed. Make sure anyone that you are affiliated with that is working on a lawsuit keeps bringing this up to the judge. Have them shove it down their throat until they understand.

    5. Why is Salazar wanting to promote new santuaries and refuges for horses when we already have hundreds of them across the USA devoid of horses where there once was.. I’m talking about our national parks, state parks, etc. Aren’t these supposed to be preserved and inhabit those animals in which are supposed to be there?

How about the fact that BLM, Dept of Ag, and US Fish and Game have removed thousands of horses from those areas long before anyone was keeping track of what they were doing with open ranges. Open range was NOT the only place the wild horse protection act was supposed to cover!

Sorry if I sound a little testy today…. I am … we had an opportunity to stop these round ups at least temporairly and it didn’t happen…so now we’re going to loose another 2,500 from the range and have to wait for another hearing/lawsuit. I am not blaming anyone here, I’m glad we finally got a group (IDA) that is willing to stand up for our wild ones…. I am however, torqued that a few points were not made and pushed and it might have made a difference. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas in spite of this set back.
