“Just back from Salt Lake City and the BLM Advisory Board meeting Wild Horse Freedom Federation’s president R.T. Fitch will join the delightful and lovely Marti Oakley in a Halloween Special Edition of Marti Oakley’s  TS Radio Show.
R.T. joined Ginger Kathrens, Simone Netherlands and a trick or treat bag full of fellow equine advocates in a press conference that they held in defiance of the “Special Interest” Board Meeting.
R.T.’s pockets are jam packed with horror stories from listening and witnessing the Advisory Board plotting the final demise of our wild horses and burros.  Sure to scare the pants off from any gelding…be there.

  1. I’m off tonight and I will be listening. Has anybody heard any more from the Oval Office keeper? He needs to take a stand.. oh and during the latest debate Romney tried to call Obama on the carpet for land leases that had been revoked (big oil) and Obama said that these companies have been sitting on the land not doing anything with it (hoarding it)…wonder what hand the BLM had in it.. Just something I heard and happened to remember.

  2. Give them hell and remember we need to do more and be more to be effective. How do we get there? We need to have more people involved with more projects. We must develop Independent Research! Knowledge is Power and we need to be well armed with information and real science to cross the bridge to a new beginning with the law being upheld and wild horses and burros still able to be free!

  3. Why do they keep rounding up the wild horses and putting them in pens. WHY?? Hope they are not planning to slaughter them the public would be irate. In Nevada people come here to see them out in the wild and enjoy doing it:) Gov Sandoval needs to do more for protecting the horses up north and I keep telling him so:(

  4. I listened ,I learned. I agree that something drastic must be done because time IS running out for our wild mustangs, wild burros and public lands. The BLM is a bunch of bullies who run over people and I kept thinking about the conflict between the farmers and the ranchers down in Texas and the ranchers played dirty throughout the skirmish. The BLM seems to be playing by those rules. They have no respect for us or anyone other than themselves. The main thing that stays in my mind is that time is running out for them (the horses) and for us (the American public). I know that I will never be able to get out there to witness the brutality in the roundups and I can’t say that I really want to witness it because I’m afraid that I’d do something stupid…. like react…. but I can’t stand sitting back and watching and waiting for the end. What more can I do?

  5. The President’s agenda does not include wild horses and what his land grab means for those of us who enjoy having formerly wild horses and domestic horses on privately owned land is a concern. Part of his energy plan includes raising the cost of fuel so high that people will be forced to live closer to where they work. Some “smart cities” are not even including parking in some areas in order to encourage foot traffic, bike use, and mass transit.

In case anyone missed it, the President issued an Executive Order, Friday, October 26, establishing the White House Home Land Security Local Community Council where the WH and HLSD will partner with local non-governmental organizations, foundations, the private sector, and community groups to increase communication and planning between the federal government and the local community.

Note that none of these local community groups are elected officials. The local citizens will be your neighbors that nominees on the President’s Council will vet and pre-approve to organize their communities to provide another level of surveillance on your activities, so if you are a little eccentric or known to be someone who would consider taking part in an act of civil disobedience, the WH and Homeland Security will be able to swoop you up before you get the car out of the garage. There won’t be any announcements of public meetings where the general public is invited to attend to provide their input. Someone else in community will choose for you what is in your best interest.

If the mainstream media were actually doing investigative journalism or using the resources of our investigative advocates, the mistreatment of our wild horses and burros would be very difficult to pull off. However, they are not talking to us about our wild horses and burros; they are not trying to get the President to tell us the truth about Libya; they are not paying attention to the President’s Executive Orders or to the fact that apparently the President has taken the unusual precedent of giving Secretary Salazar the authority to issue Administrative Directives.

Wild horses and burros have farm more rivals for the use public land than the traditional rancher or oilman. There are a number of other special interests involved. Bills have been presented, and thus far, not passed to make more public lands either wilderness, wild lands, or national monuments. The President has already declared one site a national monument after Congress failed to pass this bill. We need to be very, very careful about what petitions we sign to protect endangered species or to designate certain places as wild lands, wilderness, and for other purposes.

While we are still competing with ranchers and energy, but the dynamics have shifted because technology has advanced to the point where we now know that there are valuable products below the desert’s crust. The Western public lands are going to be a battlefield between green energy developers and traditional energy use.

In addition to the difficulty getting wild horse and burro and other worthy stories told, some of our social media and search engines (stock shares or editorial control through provisions in mergers) are controlled by a very limited number of owners all highly invested in the President’s re-election and the hope to profit from the spoils they will obtain from pillaging our public lands because they are such special and invisible friends of Senator Reid and Secretary Salazar—a more visible friend of the President.

  6. Wonderful radio show tonight! Marti Oakley’s Radio Show. I learned so much from all the well-informed, active speakers. Thank you all. Everyone is doing their part. Real gains are being made. Breakthroughs! Grassroots works. Step-by-step. I so agree with the male speakers tonight that something more needs to be done to get notice to the public. Apologies, I know of them but did not catch the names tonight. As said tonight, it does get frustrating to make gains then need to take steps back. But just like the BLM Advisory Board said yesterday regarding wild horse mare sterilization : “We need to do something BIG.” SO DO WE! It is like banging your head against a brick wall when there is a door right there to open. To open to more active protest. A good primer on grassroots organizing is Saul Alinsky’s book, “Rules for Radicals,” 1971. It is a humorous book too. The jist is, one follows the opposition with advocacy, by the rules, nice and polite. However, once the opposition does not negotiate, breaks more rules, is blatantly brutal and criminal, then grassroots ups the ante too. So I too think there should be more outward, visible protest. We need to get noticed. For the horses: suffering…and dying every day. And escalating like never before. Organize. Protest. It is time. Openly selling and sending 1700 wild horses to slaughter should be the maximum for advocates to voice en masse. With all respect, I know what I am saying is controversial. But it is way over time, years and years and years. As the wild horses are pulled from the beautiful range and herds. Brutalized, injured, dying, dead. In long and short term holding, for years. And now the BLM is letting us know the wild horses are in the horse slaughter pipeline. Thank you.
