Wild Horses take heat even after capture and gelding…
A bill that would have required the state to develop a management plan for wild horses imported into Montana was voted down in committee Tuesday.
Senate Bill 402, sponsored by Sen. Kendall Van Dyk, D-Billings, was defeated 6-5 by the agriculture, livestock, and irrigation committee.
Besides a management plan, the Montana Department of Livestock would also have charged a fee of $100 on each imported horse or burro.
Van Dyk had worked with two Republicans in crafting the bill, Sen. Taylor Brown, of Huntley, and Sen. Eric Moore of Miles City.
“We talked about how this might happen,” Van Dyk told The Montana Standard on Tuesday evening after the vote. “We introduced this at a late date, but we elevated the issue and it’s far from over. Hopefully, we can pick it up at the next session. These things take time.”
The Bureau of Land Management completed the transfer of 700 wild horses last month to the Spanish Q Ranch outside of Ennis. The Spanish Q is the first long-term holding facility for wild horses in Montana, but it was delayed for a number of years in no small part because of resistance of neighboring ranch owners about the horses’ effect on irrigation, livestock, and wild life.
The bill attempted to address some of those concerns, but it was up against a tight timeline. If the bill had passed the Senate committee, it would have had to pass through the full Senate and make it to the House by Friday. As day 71 of the current legislative session, Friday is the deadline for a revenue bill to be presented at both the Senate and the House.
Some committee members expressed concern about the $100 import fee, even though the bill was stripped of a retroactive clause that would have covered the 700 horses already at the Spanish Q.

Don’t get me started on the Government and the Ranchers of Montana…they are also trying to pass a bill to require law enforcement to shoot any wild bison on sight. This includes the members of the Yellowstone Bison who’s traditional migration for eon’s has led them into Montana. They are ecologically extinct at about 3800 (presuming Yellowstone NP can’t be stopped from killing some 400 of them). All because Montana Ranchers and Legislators are simple minded louts.
What chances do wild horses have?

This would have been awful for individual adopters in Montana. It certainly would’ve spelled disaster for the Pryor adoption in September. There were many adopters present from Montana. While most of the PMWHR is in Montana, there is a good portion in Wyoming, which is where the BLM corral facilities are located and where the adoption took place. We joked at the office, would band stallions in the Pryors need the correct paperwork and fee payment to freely cross back and forth into Montana? “I’m sorry, Seattle, but your mares have not paid their fees, you can’t cross over.”

The politics of Montana and Wyoming have been infiltrated by aliens. Either that or sociopaths. I think all those rancher types have completely depleted their gene pool and need some new blood. The want ad should read – “must be able to tell the difference between a rock and a living being.
So it is quite possible city folks may need to infiltrate.

The sad unnecessary truth is Our Wild Mustangs must suffer through no fault of their own, this is the Tragedy that these fools have created !!!!!!!! How do we correct this???? These Mustangs have lived on their own for all time , all thats required is maybe food and water here and there?????? For which is what we pay the BLM , we want nothing more than the Protection , and the flourishing of Mustangs with only a little intervention only when needed , what in the HELL is so damn hard about that???????
