Terry Fitch Wows Contest Selection Committee with Equine Photographic Majesty
I am proud, and immensely moved, to announce that my better half, Terry, has three years running been selected by the Equine Photo Contest as a finalist with TEN (10) of her photos earmarked for final awards. What a trip.
A decade and a half ago I dragged this poor woman smack-dab into the middle of the Horse Slaughter and Wild Horse & Burro issues with her only response being to document what we see and experience in photos. (quietly I do MY job which is to backpack all her gear and to take pictures of the photographer taking pictures)
Without chiding me for spending my retirement on the horses or pleading for money on Facebook to finance her efforts, Terry has been photographing horses from around the world in an attempt to increase the awareness of the general public on the importance of addressing the serious issues facing our equine companions, both domestic and wild, within our own country’s borders.
Last year we trekked across Outer Mongolia on horseback to document the effort to reintroduce the primitive wild Takhi and in only a few short weeks we will be trekking across Tibet, on horseback, and living with a nomadic Tibetan horse tribe to learn more about their horse culture so that it can be shared with you, our reader. Terry does have one particular photo that she hopes you will vote for. Instead of wild horses this year she is highlighting rescued horses, one of which graces our pastures. I have inserted her comments, below:
Here we go again!!! :O) Guess what!!! Ten of my photos have made it into the Amateur People’s Choice Category, this year. Please take a minute and go to: http://www.equinephotocontest.com/peopleschoice.asp?cat=Amateur and cast your vote for your favorite: ‘New Friends‘ (Head Study), Rough Day‘ (Performance), ‘Mongolian Racers‘ (Extreme Action), ‘, ‘Saddling Up‘ (Horse Human Bond), ‘Deep Thought‘ (Details), ‘Mongolian Stallion‘ (Wild Horses), ‘Water Hound’ (Head Study), ‘Heading Home‘ (Performance), ‘Changing of the Guard‘ (Performance), or ‘Lazy Day‘ (Head Study). All 10 photos are shown simultaneously.
You will need to confirm your vote via an e-mail sent from info@equinephotocontest.com.
Thank you!!! Oh yea…and tell all of your friends and family to vote. We really need to get the word out about the predicament of both domestic and wild horses!!! And, as much as I would love and appreciate your vote, please vote for what you like best! – Terry
(P.S. – Peoples’ Choice Voting: April 1 to 15)

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words!!! With all of the hype of horse slaughter, as of late, I’m hoping that one of my photos can help spread the word about the predicament of both the wild and domestic horses in our country; however, you need to vote for whatever moves you.

My favorite is “New friends.” I have seen rescued horses in a sanctuary show that same instant bonding and emotion that Terry captured so well. Beautiful.

Hey be careful though taking pictures of horses in Turkey, I hear yesterday they found the gates to Hell there, don’t open those for sure, it leads straight to Sue Wallis! I’d call the horses over for pics! I know everyone’s a comedian when fighting evil, Congratulations, hard work pays off! You earned it!

An amazing portrait of adoration. You can just tell by looking there are thoughts and emotions being exchanged between these two beautiful Horses(“New Friends”).
Photography is not about snapping pictures it’s about capturing the essence of the moment. I’ve followed Terry’s work for a couple of years now and I’ve seen her ability and talent grow. She has been able to capture everything from the terror of a horse being chased by a helicopter to the heart felt moment we see here. It’s no wonder she is being recognized in this exhibition.
Congratulations Terry…I’m sure it won’t be long before you’re in just the right place at just the right time and capture just the right moment that will tell the story’s of our American Horses around the world.
(R.T. – you know she’s too good for the likes of you bud! 😉 LOL
