“We were attempting to keep only good news and articles flowing during the holiday season but this announcement just broke, today.
Currently Ginger Kathrens is the only qualified person serving on the present board and she is, likewise, the only member to vote against butchering tens of thousands of wild horses that the BLM has illegally captured and currently confines at taxpayer expense.
Ginger is the token advocate, while the rest are all special interest, per-screened appointees that are interested in only horse slaughter, welfare ranching, hunting and personal affirmation.
If you could recommend anyone to stand with Ginger, fat chance, who would you pick…we can play this exercise, again.
Brainstorm away….” ~ R.T.

Just so we all know how the advisory board is chosen, here is the answer from BLM which proves it is not a representation of the public, but instead they are chosen “BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE TEAM” and we all know that management toward extinction is the objective of “the team” as instructed by the heads of the BLM & DOI & DOA.
I asked BLM’s Debbie Collins awhile back, what the process was for the decision of the Board’s new members and here is her reply (and notice there is NO mention of members of the public volunteering or even being considered … so much for democracy and the American way):
“Hi. No we can’t share who applied, only the final selectees. The selections start with recommendations from a BLM-FS team and moves up from there. The White House and DOI/DOA have the final say. The BLM-FS team memebers change based on the needs of the team. Selection process is still moving forward, but has not completed the process yet. Thanks.”

OK folks now is the time to put up or shut up!! This is our opportunity to nominate advocates who will do the job. How many are willing to be nominated? Or should I say who? Anyone have any thoughts on the subject??

Let’s pray that the next board members will be people who can be entrusted to promote the preservation of our wild ones. If I could, I’d probably nominate Lisa LeBlanc for Wild Horse and Burro Research. I personally find her to be especially well-spoken and knowledgeable on the issues.

I would second that motion.

And perhaps Carol Walker would be good for Public Interest (Equine Behavior).

All great picks! How about Robert Baer, Lloyd Eisenhower (?), Debbie Coffey? There are so many others – and Ginger sure does need some backup!

I think these are all great picks! I think we need someone steeped in the sciences, that knows this issue inside and out, and that can fearlessly present and argue our positions. I’m also wondering if we should start “lobbying” some of the federal lawmakers that understand these issues — to try and get more representation from the largest stakeholder (us), to point out the serious conflicts of interest on this board, and to make it clear (given this latest charade) that they have gotten a vote of no confidence from the general public. Call me naive, but why not give it a try, starting NOW? Have you read the board charter? Have you compared it to the current reality? We pay for this…

It should just say requirements for BLM advisory Board as follows: 1 must be pro horse slaughter, must Deny your prohorse slaughter..must be able to overcalculate horse populations and multiply 10 times over any actial numbers and change facts according to the situation. Must be cronies with horse slaughter nuts parading around .

And must be satisfied to have no authority or oversight whatsoever on what the BLM actually does.

They’ll probably choose Jack the Ripper, Josef Mengele, Hannibal Lecter….

Does Ginger have anyone in mind that might have a chance that we could recommend also?

So here’s my experience with this board.
1. It’s generally stacked against WHBs.
2. WHB advocates who are selected are often ones who aren’t likely to upset the apple cart.
3. The most effective WHB advocates know going in that they are outgunned but understand that (a) sometimes the best one can do is get some facts on the record so that they can’t be totally ignored, (b) realize that sometimes the best one can do is negotiate the least bad deal possible, and (c) accept the fact that even good recommendations from the board might be totally ignored and Congress / DOI / BLM will do what they want to do anyway.
I would hope someone from Western Watersheds would run for the Natural Resources Management position. However they aren’t pathologically anti-horse but instead they knock heads pretty hard with the public lands ranchers, so I’m not holding out much hope there.

Someone get the petitions going and send them all over for all of us to sign Be ready to go to congress and your rep person. We have done this before but here we are again don’t let them kill 1 horse and make them be accountable for what they have been doing.

I know – we all know how this happens! I’m still kind of blown away that Ginger was allowed to become a member. But she sure does need some backup. Maybe this year?
