R.T. Fitch

R.T. Fitch’s life has been anything but ordinary. Straight out of high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force Band during the Vietnam era, and while stationed in Hawaii, he spent weekends at Sea Life Park training penguins, sea lions, and whales. His path through life has taken many unexpected turns—including more than a few lessons in love—until meeting his wife, Terry, brought a lasting partnership and a shared passion for animals.
Over the course of his adult career, R.T. worked internationally in multiple countries, gaining a broad, global perspective that colors both his worldview and his writing. Now rooted in Texas, he and Terry live on a small farm surrounded by four-legged companions with paws, claws, and hooves. Together, they have devoted years to equine rescue and wild horse protection.
An ordained volunteer chaplain and professional Santa Claus for a local historical society—with Terry by his side as Mrs. Claus—R.T. brings warmth, wisdom, and joy to every season. His work reflects a life of service, wonder, and connection to both people and animals.
He is the author of Straight from the Horse’s Heart, a moving collection of true rescue stories and spiritual reflections, and Fangs of Light, a supernatural tale steeped in symbolic and metaphorical storytelling. The first in a planned trilogy, Fangs of Light blends myth and mystery to explore themes of identity, redemption, and the power of empathy—offering readers not only suspense and intrigue but a deeper look at the light and shadow within us all.

Feel Good Sunday: Olympic Rider Adelinde Cornelisse quits Rio 2016 after horse falls ill

“I am not much of a follower of sporting events so the Olympics fall under that umbrella of disinterest and of no concern. (except it is difficult to live in the Greater Houston area and not hear about the local, gold winning Simones, hurrah) But this week I did sit up and take note of a particular competing duo that stepped up and stood above the crowd, not because of what they did but instead because of what they did not do. An Olympic rider decided NOT to compete for the safety and well-being of her sick horse. Now THAT was something that touched me all the way down to my toes and back again; an athlete with a heart that was by far, much bigger than any ego. I am forever moved.

My hat is off to one of the biggest winners of the summer Olympics in Rio, Ms Adelinde Cornelissen, thank you for showing us what a REAL winner looks like and for reminding us to continue to act from the heart, even when it hurts. You will always be the biggest Olympic winner, ever!!!” ~ R.T.

BLM to Target Wild Horses in Utah to Appease Cattle Ranchers

“The Utah ‘Good Ole Boy’ club comes out this week with their guns a blazing as the BLM bends to the pressure of a law suit where local politicians, in the pocket of cattle ranchers, want wild horses cleared off the land so their welfare cattle can strip the range clear of any foliage. Gotta just love the mentality of the ‘Bubbas’ as most of them refer to the 6th grade as their ‘Senior Year’ and it shows. (meanwhile, back in Texas, we buy land, fence it, pay taxes on it and maintain it for livestock…no bovine welfare in the Lone Star State, oh dang, I used a big word again. Bovine=Cows, boys…get it?)” ~ R.T.
