The federal roundup of wild horses from Nevada’s Jackson Mountain herd area is over, with the Bureau of Land Management at odds with well-known horse advocate Laura Leigh over the need to take even more horses.
Some say that bad things come in threes and if that is the case the horses are suffering the curse in spades this dark Tuesday, July 10th, 2012.
A judge has given permission for federal authorities to remove 40 to 50 horses from a historic wild horse herd in a drought-hit area of Colorado.
The Cloud Foundation, which contends the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has been trying to eliminate the herd for decades, said it was relieved the judge had permitted only partial removal of the horses.
Tommasina Ashley was visiting New York City for her sister’s bridal shower last Thursday when she received an unsettling text message. Her 30-year-old horse, Danny, had been found in his stall with a 9-inch piece of wood wedged into his skull. Ashley was hours away from Danny’s home at Amelia Acres, a Hudson Valley farm.
There is no doubt that a certain breed of human enjoys making beer money from killing horses. Add that fact to the horse owners who have bought the pro-slaughter arguments hook, line and sinker. Between those two, and a few politicians, we have the perfect ingredients for an attempt to do away with the current Texas law forbidding the sale of horse meat and an attempt to open a horse slaughterhouse within the borders of the State.
DENVER, Colo. (July 4, 2012)—Yesterday in a telephone meeting with the Federal Court, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was given the go-ahead to remove only a portion of the wild horses in the West Douglas Herd on Colorado’s Western Slope. BLM’s Environmental Assessment (EA) stated they would remove horses both inside and outside the herd area. The Honorable Judge Collyer limited BLM’s removals to only 40-50 horses. BLM’s environmental documents contended were “in danger,” from drought.

BLM distorts truth, fact and scientific documentation in it’s on going effort to destroy the West Douglas Wild Horse herd in an effort to satisfy it’s private cattle grazing special interest supporters.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will resume a roundup of wild horses about 150 miles northeast of Reno on Sunday, nearly two weeks after a federal judge temporarily halted it due to foaling season.
For reasons that can’t be explained, some horses just can’t stand their trainers.
“He’s a good example over there,” says Jed Southcombe, gesturing at a grumpy stallion hidden in the shadows of another stable. “He doesn’t like anyone at all. He puts his ears back and his look says, `Piss off, leave me alone’.”
The 16-year-old Feilding High School pupil knows his horses. Making soothing clicking noises, Jed coaxes a strapping 3-year-old thoroughbred back into his stable with ease. The horse nuzzles him affectionately, but the young rider doesn’t fold, saying he has become used to a “tough love” approach even with his favourites.
