Phoenix, AZ (March 9, 2011)- Dances with Wolves Author, Michael Blake, filmmaker Ginger Kathrens, artist Laura Leigh, author R.T. Fitch and equine advocate Simone Netherlands will be joined by advocate Madeleine Pickens at the wild horse advocates’ press conference tomorrow. The conference will be followed by the controversial Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Advisory Board Meeting beginning Thursday afternoon. All events will take place at the Downtown Sheraton Hotel (340 N. 3rd street) in Phoenix. The media and the interested public are both encouraged to attend the press conference from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10th. A candlelight vigil will take place on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in memory of every horse that has died at the hands of the BLM. On Friday March 11, advocates will protest from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., calling for a stop to the roundups, after the public comment period of the BLM Advisory Board Meeting.

Chicago (EWA) – On February 1st, Utah Senator David P. Hinkins introduced joint resolution S.J.R 11, titled “A Resolution Expressing Opposition to Federal Restoring our Mustangs Act.” The resolution expresses opposition to federal bills H.R. 1018 / S. 1579, known collectively as the ROAM Act. The only problem is that the ROAM Act was from the 111th Congress and no longer exists.
I spent some time reading your “Special Report MUSTANG Legends and myths. Faith, hope and charity.”
And, I must say that I was completely and utterly dumbfounded at the depth of misguided opinion put forth in this so called “report.” This is no report. This is a poorly drawn editorial and to call it anything else is an insult to any thinking person’s intelligence.

Public lands grazing (which produces about 3% of the beef consumed in the US) equates to around a net loss of $123 million annually to American taxpayers and the livestock do upwards of 500 million to 1 billion in estimated damages annually. Should an agency of the federal government be able to conduct business on behalf of American taxpayers based on mood swings, capricious whims, and hissy fits? Is petulance an appropriate reaction for the head of a sprawling agency which plays a vital role in the daily life of our country?
