Horse slaughter: Schakowsky, Dan Burton Bill to Save American Horses

WASHINGTON (Sept. 19, 2011) — The Humane Society of the United States applauds U.S. Reps. Dan Burton, R-Ind., and Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., for introducing H.R. 2966, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011, a bipartisan measure that will end the export and inhumane killing of American horses for human consumption across our borders. The bill was introduced in the House with 57 original co-sponsors.

The False Bottom at the Bottom of the Barrel in Wallis World

hese comments really hit home as both my wife, Terry, and our good friend and Director of Wild Burro affairs at Wild Horse Freedom Federation, Marjorie Farabee, have had their lives turned upside down due to the wild fires in the Magnolia, Texas area the last 10 days. The fire has come just scant miles from both of our ranches. Terry still has an evacuated equine guest or two with our rig located and loaded to roll with the herd while Marjorie has many of her 107 charges off in alternate areas. There is nothing either funny or at all related to eating horses regarding REAL responsible horse people attempting to save the lives of their valued equine charges. But the sick and twisted Wyoming State Rep. “Slaughterhouse” Sue Wallis and her impotent lap dog Dave “Doink” Duquette can see an opportunity to slurp up horse blood at every turn, even in a tragedy. Their perversion is despicable. Thanks Vicki for continuing to expose then for what they are, the very dredges of human society.

Critical Week In Stopping the Flow of Cross Border Horse Slaughter

Introduced in June by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S. 1176) would prohibit the interstate/international transport and transfer of ownership of any equine intended for slaughter for human consumption. If passed, this bill will finally stop the flow of U.S. horses into Mexico and Canada, where they are processed for their meat and eaten overseas.

The Way Forward on Horse Welfare

The Government Accountability Office released a new report yesterday, “Horse Welfare: Action Needed to Address Unintended Consequences from Cessation of Domestic Slaughter,” and some proponents of horse slaughter are using it as a rallying cry to re-open equine abattoirs on American soil. But the GAO report is a lot more nuanced than the horse slaughterindustry suggests, and the report provides some good insights into better policy solutions for horse welfare. And it confirms what we have long known: that shipping horses long distances in double-decker trailers and killing them for food exports isn’t good for the horses.

Once Again; Bill Introduced in Senate To Ban Predatory Horse Slaughter In U.S.

A bill to ban horse slaughter was reintroduced in the United States Senate yesterday. Sponsored by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the “American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011” will end the slaughter of American horses here and, most urgently, will stop these horses from being exported abroad for slaughter. The sponsors, who have long championed the cause, have the bipartisan support of 14 colleagues who are co-sponsoring the bill.

Senator Blocks Obama’s Chief Wild Horse Hater’s Pay Raise

Ya gotta love it; you might not agree with why Louisiana Senator David Vitter is blocking former rancher, now Director of the Interior, Ken Salazar’s pay hike but you have to admire him for taking a stand and putting it all out on the table. The good Senator’s privates must clank when he walks because he sure is proving to be made of solid steel as he stands up against this current inept and do nothing administration. Vitter’s reason for denying the government’s Chief Wild Horse Hater from an increase in his salary can be summed up in one simple and to the point quote, “completely unsatisfactory” performance.
