SFTHH 2012 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for SFTHH. Here’s an excerpt: About 55,000 tourists visit Liechtenstein every year. SFTHH was viewed about 550,000 times in 2012. If it were Liechtenstein, it would take about 10 years for that many people to see it. SFTHH […]

An Equine Christmas Story: We Were There

Today is Sunday, precisely one week before Christmas so I tender for you, this day, an original equine related Christmas story. But today’s story tugs at my personal heart-strings with more vigor than necessary. This tale was written several years ago, immediately after the loss of my German Shepherd companion, Nikki. With her passing many creatures were living with a gap in their hearts, this feeling does not only apply to humans but to our animal companions as well. Her partner in arms and constant friend was Terry’s good buddy, Kenny, a massive white Shepherd that cried, howled and looked for Nikki weeks after her departure. The story that follows was one I wrote as Kenny and I tried to find our way through our sadness and grief and is forever alive in our book “Straight from the Horse’s Heart”. The hole is still there but both of us learned to live with it, except that today the hole in my heart is much wider as our good friend and trusty companion, Kenny, crossed over the bridge on Friday, December 16th 2011. We miss him, even the horses wonder where the evening guardian is that watched over the barn while they ate…it is now so empty without the bouncing, forever happy German Shepherd.

Equine Photo Caption Contest

Okay fellow equine advocates; it’s Sunday afternoon so lets have a little fun.

Terry and I were just out working in the yard when we decided to let our raucous herd of geldings out to join us and to chomp down on the yard grass as the mowers will be here, tomorrow. Well, true to form, one thing led to another and we had a rather interesting rodeo event occur which led to two of the bad boys, above, being banished back out to the pastures. Can you guess what they are saying, can you write (in a comment) what the caption to that photo should be?

The Winds of Destruction

“Exactly seven years ago this day, I penned these jumbled sentences, below, in an effort to make sense of the feelings that both Terry, myself and our horses felt as Hurricane Katrina was bearing down upon our small Louisiana farm. Today Terry and the herd are safe in Texas and it appears out of harms way, but the same is not true for our friends along the northern gulf coast of the mighty USA. So from half way around the world I extend a virtual hand to those who are sharing the same feelings and asking the exact same questions we struggled with over a half a decade ago; truly, may the ‘Force of the Horse®’ be with you” ~ R.T.

It had been a while since they had spoken with him. They knew that he had been busy, particularly since the hurricanes. Before the storms, he used to come out and sit with them, often sharing conversation and stories over the round bale; but it had been a while. They missed the contact, but could feel the clutter in his mind and the battle raging in his soul. So they calmly waited, knowing that he would return to them. Tonight, he was sitting on the fence, thoughtfully watching them munch on the new round bale in the back pasture.

Covert Equine Terrorist Attack Backfires on Horse Slaughter Cult

Wrap your brain around this concept for a minute; would any sane, educated adult hand over the keys to the family’s pickup truck, a credit card and a loaded AK47 to a spoiled 10 year old bully with severe personality disorders? Not in the real world; only in a science fiction, slice-and-dice, B-grade thriller would you expect to see such carnage and anarchy. But you are all in for a low cost treat as that is exactly what is going on with the two laughable cartoon characters that head the pro-horse eating organization called United Horsemen. All the cockroaches have come out on the kitchen counter to feed and poop while not one of them has a plan.

Horse Whispers

It’s Sunday, and I could not leave you fellow advocates and friends of the horses with the ugly images of the likes of Jason Meduna, Sue Wallis, Dave Duquette and the BLM dancing in your minds; that in it’s own right is a cruel and unnecessary act. So for today, I give you a story that appears in our Book in an effort to wash your minds and souls free of the dirt, blood and corruption while replenishing and refreshing your spirit. You may take it at it’s face value, but for those of you who have plunged into the depths of the equine spirit, you know of what I write. Keep the faith and may the Force of the Horse® be with you, my friends. ~ R.T.
