The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lander Field Offices has released a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) and decision record (DR) for a wild horse gather in the North Lander Wild Horse Herd Management Area (HMA) Complex, located east of Riverton in Fremont County. The gather is scheduled to begin in early November.

Based on a July 2012 census flight to inventory the population, it is estimated that there are approximately 900 wild horses in the North Lander Complex, which encompasses the Conant Creek, Dishpan Butte, Muskrat Basin and Rock Creek HMAs. The appropriate management level (AML) for the complex is 320-536 horses.

The BLM will gather, treat with fertility control, release and remove wild horses. The gather is necessary to bring the population of the complex back to its AML and slow the growth rate of the population that is returned to the North Lander Complex to help achieve a thriving natural ecological balance and a multiple use relationship with other resources within the HMAs.

The revised environmental assessment, FONSI and DR are available at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/lfo/N-Lander-gather.html. The decision is subject to administrative review through the appeal process, which is outlined in the DR.

Wild horses that are removed will be available for adoption to qualified applicants. For more information about adopting a Wyoming wild horse, visit www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/programs/Wild_Horses.html.

For more information, please contact BLM Wild Horse Specialist Scott Fluer at 307-332-8400.

    • That pretty much sums it up, Arlene and it’s very dis-hearting. Our American wild horses and burros are suppose to be protected and should be protected, by law. Again, the will of the people and interest in protecting them doesn’t seem to mean a damn. The freedom and respect for our equines is gone, sadly by a few, but enough to make it happen. I’ll never understand how people can live with themselves, when they “know” the damage they cause by their irresponsible decisions.

  2. RT: Just heard MFer Salazar speaking at DNC tonite. Is there any way you can post something to get people to call White House 202-456-1111 or DNC 202-863-8000 and demand they cancel Salazar’s speech?

  3. 900 horses left in Wyoming? I don’t believe it. AML’s are ridiculous random numbers pulled out of their butts. They play by their own set of rules and get away with murder using our tax dollars. When will it end? When they stampede the very last one into a trap.
My beautiful mustang was stolen from his homeland, Muskrat basin. My heart breaks for his relatives.

They have to learn that we pay them to PROTECT Our Mustangs thaT IS THE joB WE PAY THEM TO DO NOTHING MORE OR LESS………The Mustangs serve the land and wildlife, they are there for this …………..The BLM and Ken Salazar have to go, you cannot deal with them they are hell bent that they are above the Law, they are not !!!!! They are only an Agency not the all seeing eye !!!!!!!!! We can sit around and talk this point forever and it does not help our Slowing eradicated Mustangs , only concerted action will help them , voices are not HEARD !!!!!!!! It doesnt matter who is President !!!!that is clear !!!! We can talk about all the Criminal Actions of the BLM till doomsday , and they will still take them from the Land to which they BELONG TO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!!!!!! Once again, these politico people have no clue what they are doing; well maybe they do…. corrupt politicians know what they are doing when money is involved and they have no respect “for the people,by the people”. We need to keep gatering up our strength, one person at a time. I hope and pray that we can do it in time! May God bless the America Wild Horse!

  5. Does anyone believe that Obama has a “clue,” as to what is happenning with our Wild Mustangs/burrows; even the wolves.. Or that he cares!!!!! Our Government is rotten to the core. The few select legislators who care, are a handful.. Jim Moran, is one of the few. Question? Would Romney be any better???

I am writing about how Power in this country kills our citizens, most often the poor, with impunity. It will be called, KILLERS ON THE LOOSE, the crimes and coverups of the American Justice system.” Out sometime next year hopefully. Also working on a photo book with images of how Wyoming is, indeed, a slave state, and that the people do not know.

So I am a trouble maker by birth. Hope you all are peacemakers.

    Love,

  7. Some of the returned mares are going to be given SpayVac which can cause permanent sterility and may cause other health issues. This “experimentation” on our wild horses is an outrage. Have you read the Decision Record yet? I just did and I am mad as hell. A man just called to ask for a donation for the Democrats and did the poor guy get an earfull. I told him until Salazar is gone I just won’t even vote and that a whole lot of people are really upset about what is happening to our wild horses too and I gave him some web sites , more info and it was all recorded. Well there goes my B/P again .

    • If Obama wants my vote, he first needs to get Cattlemen’s Assoc, Farm Bureau & oil companies out of his pockets and get rid of Salazar. No stop to roundups, no vote! I did get around to sending email to Pacelle at HSUS asking for their help organizing demonstrations, probably won’t hear anything back.

  8. I have to struggle with all the legal stuff. Are you telling me they chose alternative 3– spay vac? This is NOT a trial drug. It is used on the Maryland side of Assateague to control herd growth. The mares are allowed 3 pregnancies BEFORE being spayed.

I shudder at this. For instance Cloud has two mares that have NEVER given birth. Some moron with a dart gun might “accidentally” spay those two mares effectively denying them the chance to ever carry a pregnancy to term.

Honest the law SAYS THEY ARE TO BE MANAGED ON THE LANDS WHERE CURRENTLY FOUND. How can spaying mares be considered management? This is WAY BEYOND WRONG.

The problem is WY is total cattle. And they have this weird crossword patch land deal thing. A section of public land, followed up by private land, followed up by public land. So of course when the horses move around they cross onto private property. If that isn’t setting the horses up for failure–I don’t what is. This crisscross thing is state wide and cattle owners are beyond reasonable. Re,e,ber this is the home of SS.

Also while Gerry has an office in Jackson–it’s managed by his partners. Gerry is retired. How come I know? I have friends in the area. Asking his partners might be possible but I don’t know. Gerry is a true maverick!

RT I leave this in your capable hands. Thanks for letting me vent. It’s been a VERY ROUGH couple of weeks for me. And sadly Breeze will have a new owner on Saturday. It breaks my heart. I saw her when she was three weeks old. I so much wanted her to remain in her mountain home not to be bothered by man. It is my sincere hope that she gets someone who will understand her and love her forever.

  9. Here is a “good one” to make your B/P go sky high, Barbara!

Comment to the BLM re: North Lander:
“Include a full explanation of the allocation between wild horses and cattle populations, along with scientific data regarding range damage attributable to wild horses.”
    BLM response:
“This comment is outside the scope of the analysis”

If that is not the most ridiculously stupid, ass-backwards, narrow-minded, non-scientific reply I have EVER heard then I will eat my hat! Since when is looking at the facts and data and reports that support or do not support their proposal NOT COUNT? Didn’t a judge recently state that the BLM MUST review justifiable scientific data to support their decisions to capture wild horses and burros? I think this is fodder for an IBLA complaint since it goes against the NEPA requirement to take (and I quote) “A HARD LOOK” at the issue.

    • “This comment is outside the scope of the analysis”. I have seen this assine reply before, Granny. It’s a cop out when they know they are in the wrong and can’t justify their actions. I’m sure none of the questions were answered or any comments even considered especially those against SpayVac.

  10. Boy, Wyoming is going to wipe out their entire wild horse population soon. Can’t hardy have any left to round up. I think Big Gas and Oil has purchased the state from Dick Cheney and we just don’t know it yet.

  11. Whats the matter? Is some big oil co. wanting to drill there,or it might be some rancher would like to run his livestock there.Come on the people of Wyo. don’t have their heads in the sand.

  12. Typical of the BLM’s response to anyone who doesnt go along with the “flow”. Big gas & oil are taking over or have already. And its spreading over the entire country. Someone has said (here I think) that the wild horses are the canary in the coal mine – and its true. Each species thats wiped out so we can take more out of the ground & put more pollution into the air is just destroying this planet. And most of the politicians & lobbyists are making it happen. It just feels like we are just sliding down such a slippery slope.

  13. The BLM is sooooo last geological age…If Lewis and Clarke had known what the BLM was going to do to the West, they would have stopped East of the Mississipi.

I think we need a law that makes it much easier for federal workers to be fired for incompetence. One warning, one suspension, and then you are gone. No pension, no health insurance, no paid sick days, no paid vacation days, turn in your uniform, your computer, and your gun and never darker the door of a federal office again. Nada. Until there are serious consequences for breaking our laws, then this type of scam is going to continue.

Senator Reid and Secretary Salazar have to go. If we do not have a new administration, or if there continues to be a Democratic majority in the Senate, we need to try to get the Dems to vote Senator Reid out of his Senate Presidency. He has four more years, but our wild horses and burros don’t. When he is finally so far back in Nevada that no one can find him even with a searchlight, perhaps some real change in the country can take place.

  14. At GOP Convention one of the goals spoken of was for us to be energy independent, ie., oil etc. The first IMMEDIATE thought in my mind was our Mustangs don’t have a chance. There is a plan and part of that plan will be the eradication of our Mustangs, no holes barred. Do we have a chance at stopping this? My heart hopes so, my brain says that for over 50 years of political corruption the people have not been heard. We pay for this corruption and the plans and deeds of evil men/women, while ignoring the voice of the people who pay them. Many have been in a coma for so long, that those in power have had a free card to pass go and collect off our backs, while doing whatever they want, regardless of the laws in place. My heart is heavy and I don’t know how to stop them.

    • Dear Beverly, this has been going on for the Wild Mustangs for more years, then I care to mention it has been heartbreaking, and heart wrenching process to which nothing has been solved, our Mustangs are forced to be maimed, murdered, run of cliffs , foals have been hog tied left in the sun to die , separated from their mothers, and their herds, Stallions castrated by someone whos not even a veterinarian, the BLM , hired known animals cruelty people to chase them with helicopters , who use them for there own sadistic folly, this is frustrating beyond words, I have lost sleep over this , I dream about the Beautiful Black Stallion who crashed through bobbed wire fencing risking his life for the Freedom he was promised, what have did was exactly what we would have done faced with what he was faced with ……………………..I remember brave heart the Stallion who broke his neck , trying to escape the BLM , there a many other wild mustangs who have died , mares aborting their foals being chased sown rough mountain terrain, this is all unnecessary, with absolutely no Basis whatsoever…………………………..I dont want to hear we cannot stop them I want the BLM and Salazar stopped !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Salazar and Reid need to be sent out of the country. The plight of our Mustangs seems so miniscule to them. There are save the birds, save the lizards, save the fish. WHYCAN’T SOMEONE SEE OUR TRUE HERITAGE IS BEING RUN TO EXTINCTION Isn’t there some court that would accept true figuresthat prove the Mustangs can’t exist in some of the numbers the BLM speaks of for AML.
