Salt Lake City, UT (October 27, 2012) – The Cloud Foundation, Respect4Horses and Wild Horse Freedom Federation will hold a special press conference on the current state of America’s mismanaged wild horses and burros. The groups are calling for a halt to all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) roundups that are destroying the last of America’s wild herds at enormous and escalating taxpayer expense and an immediate investigation into credible allegations where stockpiled wild horses and burros are being sold to known kill buyers for eventual slaughter for human consumption abroad.
The media and the interested public are encouraged to attend this public press conference at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown (215 West South Temple) from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29th, 2012. The public press event will take place on the opening day of the BLM’s controversial Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting occurring, likewise, at the Radisson Hotel.
Currently the BLM has scheduled massive roundups of wild horses and burros throughout the remainder of this calendar year. Remnant herds of wild horses and burros live in 10 western states, including Utah, but their future is tenuous. The agency responsible for their protection and preservation, the BLM, is managing them to extinction. While the cruel and costly roundups continue, the BLM has no idea how many wild horses remain in the wild while pumping tens of thousands of captured wild horses and burros into both short and long term holding facilities. To date the BLM has stockpiled more than 48,000 + wild horses and burros in costly government holding, leaving millions of acres of legally designated wild horse and burro ranges empty.
Advocates are calling for the return of wild horses and burros to the 24 million acres of designated lands cleared since 1971. Only 180 of the originally identified 339 herds remain in the wild. Horse Welfare organizations estimate that currently we have less than 20,000 wild horses and burros remaining wild and free. The BLM continues to “zero out” herds each year without proper justification.
The groups, supported by advocates from coast to coast, will come together in Salt Lake City to demand the BLM call off all scheduled roundups immediately while an accurate and unbiased count is conducted as well as an investigation into the allegations of slaughter sales and the continued mismanagement of wild horses and burros both in the wild and in captivity by the BLM and their hired contractors.

This issue is so frustrating!! Those who care about our Wild Horses/Burrows, are doing all which they can to “put an end,” to the “National Crime,” against our Treasures!!!!

Publicity of this event is important. Just a few days ago I happened to catch part of a program on a local channel, might have been PBS?, where BLM was telling the reason they have to remove all these horses is because they will die of starvation this winter if left to their own resources on the open range. According to the BLM, wild horses reproduce at such an alarming rate they over populate the ranges they occupy and in order to save them they have to remove them. The spokesman was just oozing compassion and concern for the horses and ecology. A lot of people that are ignorant to the true situation and the BLM’s criminally abusive round-ups that are resulting in destruction of the wild herds will believe their BS.

If only your press conference can get national media attention and be covered on all the news broadcasts . The BLM keeps lying to the public as Wambli states and the truth is not told. I think the general public would be appalled if they watched a video of how cruel the roundups are .

I saw this in an earlier post about the meeting. I would suggest that everyone post this information on their facebook page, send it out over the internet and send it to your local papers as well.
It isn’t hard to do. Just cut and paste. All the local papers have an email address.
This might also be a good time to write, call, email your Senators and Congressmen and tell them what you think. Lets start a revolution and stop this insanity.

I live in New York, Oh, how I would like to be at the conference..The only thing I can do now is: ” Pray, and send the most strongest positive thoughts,, that the BLM will be forced to stop the Round Ups, that it will come NOW in the open, the Wrong, the Cruel, the Lies, the Selling our wildhorses to the killbyers . The Judges, Congress, Obama, The world is watching you!!! The BLM is puting the shame, a black mark on this country.My heart goes out to the Horses. Good MUST win over their Eve!!!. We can not more horses go to hell. Again, my strongest thoughts are going out to you, . GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wildhorse@blm.gov has received over 110,000 emails in the last 10 days about this issue due to Wild Mustang Robin’s petition on change.org. She would love to present her signatures to the BLM in person just to make sure they are getting them!

Gosh if only you could get this streamed over the internet. If we could only get C-Span to cover the meeting after all it is a public government meeting. Could the local Public broadcasting station help? Lot’s of ideas, mostly I’m sure too late or already considered.
I feel our next course has to be to the public at large. We do well passing information among ourselves but how do we get to ma and pa and the kids on Staten Island or Miami or Cincinnati?

Last April’s meeting Sally Spencer made a really big deal about how she was going to re-write the sales agreement to be SURE that no WH&B could EVER go to slaughter. Can’t wait to hear what she has to say this time since she is the person who researches / interviews buyers and is the person responsible for making the decision on who is or is not approved and she even signs the sales authority paperwork.

Sally had nothing to say, in my opinion. She needs to be fired but the entire BLM and Board is behaving like they are all innocent… Sally was and has been instrumental in selling horses to slaughter. Knowingly (ha ha) or not, she screwed up. Even if she did as she was told she was responsible and so she needs to go! She is a Marketing Specialist!! She was doing her job… to market as many horses as possible. Only phone interviews and horses lives on the line. Great job. She sent our horses to slaughter.

Obviously Sally read exactly what had been approved for her to say and she had been coached what to say and how to say it and to act like a meek and blah person – complete opposite of last April’s meeting. In addition, it was obvious that the entire board was not asking her any important questions and had been coached to not ask her anything concerning our wild horses and burros who have disappeared with her help. Blah blah. If it was my boss, this gigantic issue of selling 1700 horses to slaughter would have been the number one question that would have been and should have been asked. Not surprised just disgusted.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I got that Henrickson was beating around the bush and really had to hold herself back from including slaughtering all the wild ones to save money. I’m I just reading something into what she said. Or is it because I can’t stand her.

Does anyone have a definition from BLM on what they consider an Eco Sanctuary to be??? I sent a text to RT to ask in case no one has one… It seems they think a sanctuary will not have breeding animals and this is NOT a definition of sanctuary at all. This means a great deal in our understanding in much of what was said this afternoon. The climate talk is really what to worry about because it is the BLM’s reasoning for continuing removals.
