Bureau Of Land Management Scrubs Stewardship Language From News Releases

The Bureau of Land Management, the federal agency that oversees more than 245 million acres of public land, has stripped its conservation-focused mission statement from agency news releases.

Boilerplate language ― the bureau’s longstanding mission statement ― was printed at the end of BLM press releases throughout President Donald Trump’s tenure: “The BLM’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.”

That language was recently cut from all agency releases, including those that predate the Trump administration. The text now exclusively highlights the economic value of America’s public lands:

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Diverse activities authorized on these lands generated $96 billion in sales of goods and services throughout the American economy in fiscal year 2017. These activities supported more than 468,000 jobs.

The boilerplate as it appeared earlier this week. The text in blue has since been removed from all Bureau of Land Management

  1. “Daddy BIG Bucks” has forgotten that as Americans, we are the landowners for millions of acres of public land across the West that is managed by federal agencies. National Parks, National Forests, National Wildlife Refuges, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands all are OWNED BY THE PEOPLE and are supposed to be managed in trust for our benefit.

  2. So what has the old wildlife murderer been up to lately?
There was a big gala affair to celebrate the opening of the Statue of Liberty Museum at Ellis Island last Wednesday with many celebrity billionaires attending (Jeff Bezos, Oprah, Hillary Clinton, and even Chuck Schumer). As T***p was busy with “immigration policies”, he cowardly sent his henchman in his stead.
That would be the same guy that not only is devastating our Wild Horses and wildlands, but also runs the National Park Service… and Ellis Island. David Bernhardt.

  3. Wasn’t the DOI mission mandated by Congress? They can strip text with a keystroke but surely it would take an act of Congress to redefine their mission. If this hasn’t been done then these omissions amount to defrauding the American public.

And so I have a message for my fellow filthy rich, for all of us who live in our gated bubble worlds: Wake up, people. It won’t last.
If we don’t do something to fix the glaring inequities in this economy, the pitchforks are going to come for us. No society can sustain this kind of rising inequality. In fact, there is no example in human history where wealth accumulated like this and the pitchforks didn’t eventually come out. You show me a highly unequal society, and I will show you a police state. Or an uprising. There are no counterexamples. None. It’s not if, it’s when.

I know you fellow .01%ers tend to dismiss this kind of argument; I’ve had many of you tell me to my face I’m completely bonkers. And yes, I know there are many of you who are convinced that because you saw a poor kid with an iPhone that one time, inequality is a fiction.

Here’s what I say to you: You’re living in a dream world. What everyone wants to believe is that when things reach a tipping point and go from being merely crappy for the masses to dangerous and socially destabilizing, that we’re somehow going to know about that shift ahead of time. Any student of history knows that’s not the way it happens. Revolutions, like bankruptcies, come gradually, and then suddenly. One day, somebody sets himself on fire, then thousands of people are in the streets, and before you know it, the country is burning. And then there’s no time for us to get to the airport and jump on our Gulfstream Vs and fly to New Zealand. That’s the way it always happens. If inequality keeps rising as it has been, eventually it will happen. We will not be able to predict when, and it will be terrible—for everybody. But especially for us.

  5. Impeachment hearings should be commenced asap, with this change of the ‘mission statement’ of BLM being very symbolic of the true intent of the Director of DOI… David Bernhardt needs to be called out in Congress!
We should all be fast-forwarding into the present time, and seeing the reality of what Bernhardt and his agencies are blatantly taking from us and our public wildlands… the lives that are being destroyed forever.
It is time for that investigation toward impeachment to begin. Please contact your Congressional officials, and let them know that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
