The Bureau of Land Management’s National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board will meet in October in Salt Lake City to discuss issues relating to the management, protection, and control of wild horses and burros on Western public rangelands. The day-and-a-half meeting will take place on Monday, October 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, October 30, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., local time.
The meeting will take place at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown at 215 West South Temple. The hotel phone number for reservations is 801-531-7500 or 1-800-333-3333. The Advisory Board provides input and advice to the BLM as it carries out its responsibilities under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. The law mandates the protection, management, and control of these free-roaming animals in a manner that ensures healthy herds at levels consistent with the land’s capacity to support them. According to the BLM’s latest official estimate, approximately 37,300 wild horses and burros roam on BLM-managed rangelands in 10 Western states.
The public may address the Advisory Board on Monday, October 29, at 3:30 p.m., local time. Individuals who want to make a statement at the Monday meeting should register with the BLM by 2 p.m., local time, on that same day at the meeting site. Depending on the number of speakers, the Board may limit the length of presentations, set at three minutes for previous meetings.
Speakers should submit a written copy of their statement to the BLM at the addresses below or bring a copy to the meeting. There may be a Webcam present during the entire meeting and individual comments may be recorded. Those who would like to comment but are unable to attend may submit a written statement to: Bureau of Land Management, National Wild Horse and Burro Program, WO-260, Attention: Ramona DeLorme, 1340 Financial Boulevard, Reno, Nevada, 89502-7147. Comments may also be e-mailed to the BLM at wildhorse@blm.gov .

The Advisory Board meets at least once a year and the BLM Director may call additional meetings when necessary. Members serve without salary, but are reimbursed for travel and per diem expenses according to government travel regulations.

II. Public Comment Procedures
On Monday, October 29, 2012 at 3:30
p.m., members of the public will have
the opportunity to make comments to
the Board on the Wild Horse and Burro
Program. Persons wishing to make
comments during the Monday meeting
should register in person with the BLM
by 2 p.m. on October 29, 2012, at the
meeting location. Depending on the
number of commenters, the Advisory

or studies or those that include citations

Work groups?? Will they woo us to come to this like they did in Denver? It has been a while since they tried this… they said we would meet again soon. I remember they asked us how often we would like to meet and I think we said 2 times a year! Ha ha. Over 2 years later they are loaded for bear. Great set up with this newer board.

It appears that the efforts of the organizations, individuals, etc., who fight for saving our Wild Horses/Burrows, is fruitless.. Please do not give up. Those who are able, please attend the “so-called, meeting!!” Those who are in charge in the USA, have no conscience!!!!

I wonder if Sally will be there and read to us the “lullaby” about how our Wild Horses and Burros cannot be sent to kill-buyers. I believe that at the Reno meeting she said she was working on changing a few sentences in the sale agreement to be SURE that none of our WH&B could ever be sold to animal abusers or kill-buyers.

Given the urgency of the situation, I think everyone who can possibly get there should try to get there and try to get as many people as possible to come to this. We cannot control whether this board will do anything positive or not, but we can control our own efforts to get there and the preparation of our remarks and suggestions.
This is a matter of life and death. Over the past few days, I have had the opportunity to witness some of the most graphic pictures and commentary of animal cruelty that I have ever seen—-even worse that the photos at Kaufmanzoning.org and some by Animals Angels. Even after three years of following this story—I simply could not believe my eyes.
I cannot emphasize strongly enough that we need to the best of our ability take advantage of the time betweeen now and election time to meet with our public officials. Heck, call and volunteer to help our with both/or one of the Democrat and the Republican Headquarters. Be a face. Make contacts. Spread the word. Build good will locally and see if we can get some of the unitiated to join our coalition. Remember people do not have to be perfect; none of us are. We need people of good will who will support us one way or another. We can do this. We must do this. For each other and for the horses.

LONG COMMENT ALERT:
While I can’t attend the meeting because I can’t afford to go, I will send an email and also hard copy letter as well…..heres the deal though; I truly believe that we at NO TIME can agree to FENCED eco-sanctuaries that extend onto PUBLIC/BLM land and ANY HMA’s, and the private fenced land at the eco-sanctuaries will be for “special case” horses such as horses who are no longer thriving in the wild, lame horses, horses with birth defects but that have learned to get around O.K. in the wild but might not in the future, horses that are in long term holding and that will never be truly free again, etc.
The MAIN issue here in the West with our public/federal land, and what has always been the issue from decades ago to the present time, are FENCES so PRIVATE BUSINESS FACTIONS can take control of OUR PUBLIC LAND……THAT is why I always suggest to wild horse advocates to “play nice” with other members of the public who like to recreate on public land too; people who hike, bike, ride 4-wheelers and motorcycles, campers, etc, because we ALL lose if the PROTECTED wild horses are eradicated as is what is evident by the ramped-up captures (and because the authorities see “the writing on the wall” NOW just as they did in the late-’60’s right before the protection act was made law, they ramped up the captures and the killings of wild horses and burros then too in hte late-’60’s right up to the law being approved so they could eliminate as many wild horses and burros as possible before they were stopped in regard to the decimation by the protection act, so they’re “running scared” again now because of our current education of what I call “the naive, uninformed general public”, —and I don’t label them that way as a snub so much as to point out that until they are informed/educated by us on this subject, they TRUST the government to PROTECT the wild horses and burros and we all know that is NOT what happens typically—-, is having an effect and the BLM and private business factions are afraid of losing the headway they’ve made on the take-over of our public land), ANYONE and ALL of the public will be fenced off of our public land and will either be fined and/or jailed for trespassing, or will have to pay a fee to go on OUR OWN LAND that we all PAY for.
The ONLY things standing between the public and our current ability to recreate on public land ARE the wild horses and burros…..if they weren’t legally and federally protected, I KNOW for sure that the business factions would have already gone out and killed all of them within a few short months (and yes, I have spoken to ranchers that say that’s exactly what they’d do if it was legal to do so)….it IS what they already do with animals who are not protected and who are “in the way” of development and/or who either compete with the cattle for forage and water OR are predators to the cattle….it’s called “sanitizing the range”, and means they go out and kill through shooting, poisoning, trapping, and even burning alive dens of baby animals to eliminate them to make way for their private business activities. So basically, since these monsters who are all about money can’t simply murder the wild horses outright and/or capture some and ship them to slaughter and make some blood money, they lobby in D.C. and then get the BLM to do their dirty work in the form of so-called “management”…….it always go back to FENCES and CONTROL of OUR PUBLIC land by private business interest factions who are only interested in MONEY, so one way to slow them down is to let them know that we know what they are doing, and that they are also breaking the law as written and that we all WILL hold any and all of the people in the BLM responsible….that’s why I encourage any of the “peons” (wranglers, low level employees, office workers in field offices, etc) in the BLM to be whistle blowers because we all KNOW that the higher-up muckity-mucks in the BLM will “roll” like scared little girls on the peons in order to save their own skins when the shit hits the fan as it is getting ready to do with the exposure of the connection between Ken Salazar/BLM, Tom Davis and at least 1700 wild horses and some burros going to slaughter…..it’s called COLLUSION and FRAUD and it IS ILLEGAL Mr. Salazar; the “naive, uninformed general public” is not so naive and uninformed now, and they are also now watching every move the BLM makes….its great when people now can call and report when they see suspicious activities of big truckloads of horses rolling out of holding corrals an pastures in the dead of night…..makes for a lot of eyes watching, watching, watching……..and then calling, calling, calling………
Sorry I’m so long winded here, but I’ve been watching and videoing the fencing off of more of our public land over here near Lahontan Resevoir in Lyon County, Nevada, and also between Silver Springs and Fernley, Nevada and it makes me sick that they are successful in now keeping people on horseback especially, from being able to ride on OUR public land because of locked gates and cattle guards we can’t get across on horseback. I’m sure that sooner or later I’ll be accosted by ranchers when I’m on public land where they act aggressive until I tell them to “get lost” or they will have to keep looking behind them to make sure I’m not following them….one of these days, I still hold out hope I’ll make one mad enough to have a heart attack from their blood pressure going sky high as evidenced by their beet red faces when I tell them to “get lost old man”–yep, I did say that to one of them and thought he’d fall out of his truck when little ol me said that to him—-lol
I’m hoping that someone who can attend this meeting in person might have more ammunition/info from some of my writings from living surrounded by Open Range for 20 years in order to show that we aren’t just basing our position ONLY on emotion and are ALSO ticked that we as the public who are forced to pay subsidies to private businesses so they can more easily operate their businesses (and wouldn’t it be great if all of us business owners had taxpayer dollars flowing into our coffrs—-I KNOW my life would be A LOT easier, but because I was raised by my parents to be ethical, fair and honest, I’d never be able to do that with a clear conscience!—- are not only losing our legally protected wild horses and burros off the public land, but in addition, we are losing our OWN ability to recreate on our OWN land because of PRIVATE business interest factions who are devouring every bit of OUR land they can fence off and take control of while eliminating our beautiful wild horses and burros in the process.
Seriously, without our wild horses and burros living FREE AND WILD on the public land, and we the public being unable to recreate on our public land, what exactly would we get in return for our tax dollars going to PRIVATE BUSINESS INTERESTS in the form of subsidies by the millions and billions of dollars? The answer is NOTHING — and that is simply UNACCEPTABLE!

Please remember this is only an advisory board. The off the BLM their opinions. Then the BLM goes and does whatever the hell they want to.
But a show of force is an outstanding way to get attention!
