The Bureau of Land Management’s National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board will meet in March in Oklahoma City to discuss issues relating to the management, protection, and control of wild horses and burros on Western public rangelands. The day-and-a-half meeting will take place on Monday, March 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, March 5, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., local time.

The meeting will be held at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Hotel, 1 North Broadway Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102. The hotel phone number for reservations is 405-235-2780.  The agenda of the meeting can be found in the February 5, 2013, Federal Register (at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-02-05/pdf/2013-02381.pdf).
The Advisory Board provides input and advice to the BLM as it carries out its responsibilities under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. The law mandates the protection, management, and control of these free-roaming animals in a manner that ensures healthy herds at levels consistent with the land’s capacity to support them.  According to the BLM’s latest official estimate, approximately 37,300 wild horses and burros roam on BLM-managed rangelands in 10 Western states.
The public may address the Advisory Board on Monday, March 4, at 3:30 p.m., local time.  Individuals who want to make a statement at the Monday meeting should register in person with the BLM by 2 p.m., local time, on that same day at the meeting site.  Depending on the number of speakers, the Board may limit the length of presentations, set at three minutes for previous meetings.
Speakers should submit a written copy of their statement to the BLM at the addresses below or bring a copy to the meeting.  There may be a Webcam present during the entire meeting and individual comments may be recorded.  Those who would like to comment but are unable to attend may submit a written statement to: Bureau of Land Management, National Wild Horse and Burro Program, WO-260, Attention: Ramona DeLorme, 1340 Financial Boulevard, Reno, Nevada, 89502-7147. Comments may also be e-mailed to the BLM at wildhorse@blm.gov .
For additional information regarding the meeting, please contact Ramona DeLorme, Wild Horse and Burro Administrative Assistant, at 775-861-6583.  Individuals who use a telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) may reach Ms. DeLorme during normal business hours by calling the Federal Information Relay Service at 1-800-877-8339.
The Advisory Board meets at least once a year and the BLM Director may call additional meetings when necessary.  Members serve without salary, but are reimbursed for travel and per diem expenses according to government travel regulations.

  1. Hunting? I can see it now; a bunch of hunters out on public lands with RVs and refrigerated trucks to haul away the horses they kill so they can sell them to the slaughter houses and serve them in Burger King. Jesus. It’s like watching a lunatic run the world.

  2. R. T. Fitch – please go and speak. PROTEST LOUD AND LONG! Have as many others as possible go with you. Get media to cover the protests and highlight the issues. Bring documentation. Ride in on horses to get attention – like a parade (try to get a permit first). Make it colorful and sentimental with banners and songs/music about horses. Be peaceful, but be sincere.

    • Well, technically we, the people should be able to speak on the “board” (no wild equine advocate appointed yet) and as long as reasonable. polite comments are presented to be heard.

After all, the right to speak for whatever side should not be held to limitation because of time (no, I’m not talking about a filibuster). Ten to twenty minutes per person based on attendance won’t kill the board…no one died of listening. Of course, not doing that will kill wild equines.

But stifling debate is their “raison d’etre” (reason for being).

  3. It is time for as many of us to attend this meeting. This is so vital that we make our informative statements to the BLM and management team. I am so outraged that this group of individuals are getting away with murder and blood on their hands or passing the buck. I am sick and tired of their crazy lies and hogwash. It is up to us to defend our horses and hit them right between the eyes with a new bullet in our pockets.
We have to be sleek and smooth when we deliver the facts with truth and grace. There is no equality here, we must fight for our wild horses rights to be free and protected. We are strong and mighty, we can make a difference. Give them a story that goes to the meat of the issue. Make them cry. Real stories that bring them down to their knees and can ask God for forgiveness. We can help our horses and we will.
We have the facts. The facts are real and we must bring out all of the problems, make the BLM advisory committee realize we are playing hard ball and will not let this rest until all of our wild horses and burros are safe to roam free once again.
We have solutions and we need to work together to accomplish our great tasks. It is our time to save our horses. All persons involved in this motive driven turmoil must held accountable for their awful decisions in the destroying and killing of so many wild horses. We will not let this rest until all of our horses are protected and safe. I mean what I say. Manipulation training has gone bonkers. We have kick ass training and we can use it well so let us get going my horse advocates and warriors. Now is the time to step up to the BLM’s demise. NOW STOP ALL ROUND UPS, STOP ALL HORSE SLAUGHTER, STOP ALL WILD HORSE TRANSPORT TO SLAUGHTER NOW. NOW I MEAN NOW.

  4. I won’t be able to attend but I will compose a statement and send it. First I need to study their agenda. Everyone must continue to demand accountability for the terrible decisions that have been made.

  5. Thanks RT for the information, I will see what I can do to attend. May I suggest a meeting point for our group as this would create a united front. We also could share our comments so that we are organized. Great idea on the webcam. We should all call for the information which would show the BLM that there is interest all over the country. The country is tired of the rheotric and hypicritical actions by them. Sometimes the hotels/motels can hold a block of rooms too. Has anyone thought about having some signage while the meeting is going on before or after? Just some thoughts..Also if we had some type of badges indicating that we are united in a group.- name/Wild Horse Freedom Federation..Again, thanks so much, I hope that I am able to meet up with all the Horse Warriors…Have a great day…

  6. The election is over, nominations are being made for a new Secretary of the Interior and now our worst fears may be upon us. What will become of the captives? Why have the roundups continued? Why is there no real accountability on the behalf of BLM for the removals and zeroing out of HMAs? How rough do we have to play to get this stopped and turned around? How can they even have this meeting when the entire WH&B Program has been abused and manipulated into a staging platform for the annihilation of the wild horses and burros regardless of the 71 Act that protects them?

We have a great deal to say and it is increasing clear even our right to speak is being curtailed.
What good will it do to go?

To express our displeasure and alarm at the continuation of BLM management of the wild ones when they have broken laws, broken faith and kidnapped a public program for the purpose of destroying it and the charges whose lives they have held in the balance for too long!!!
