Aspiring Horse Killer Just Can’t Catch a Break

Dreams of dead horses dashed as Rick De Los Santos stands in the slaughterhouse where he thought he was going to butcher American horses for the foreign meat market. (PAT VASQUEZ-CUNNINGHAM/JOURNAL)
Although it is a moot point, as horse slaughter is dead in the U.S. for the next two years, the beleaguered, wanna-be horse butcher Ricardo De Los Santos, owner of Valley Meats in Roswell New Mexico, will have to wait until March 21, 2014 to hear from the New Mexico Secretary of the Environment if his application for a ground water discharge permit renewal has been denied or approved.
Either way it doesn’t matter as he won’t be slaughtering companion equines without federal inspections and that funding has been halted, thank goodness.
Looks like its back to hamburgers for you Ricky, no ponies in your pens.
Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?
It’s not nice to fiddle with Karma…

I think RT uses that pic to highlight just how icky, horrifying and disgusting horse slaughter is. I know it’s a pretty disgusting pic and I too was hoping it would be permanently shelved. It is enough to give one nightmares!
On the other hand I kinda like it in a really weird way! It shows how disgusting this business is. I mean if I lived near this guy I know I wouldn’t want to be friends–knowing the sort of business he wants to run.

I am concerned with the wording of the decision as being “companion equines”. Does this mean that wild or feral horses are acceptable to slaughter?

Here’s my total non legal take. We know BLM will sale wild horses to slaughter. They’ve done it before–Tom Davis and Debbie Coffey dug up a couple other rather dubious receipts…so just because it’s illegal to sale a wild horse to a known kb doesn’t mean diddly squat. Those horses probably wouldn’t wear a brand and even if they did–it’s a sure bet somebody’s head would turned the wrong way at the moment that rose entered the kill pen.
Horses on reservations–thats a whole separate discussion. One day I hear slaughter is off the table with Native Americans then it’s back on. I think some of that depends on which way the wind is blowing.
Rick can slaughter for zoo’s. But I’m not sure how much he’ll get. By his own testimony he hasn’t ever actually slaughtered a horse. And most zoo’s have their own sources where they buy from. Not sure if it would need inspections but the market itself would be the bigger problem or should I say lack of one.
He can slaughter for his own needs–that’s legal in every state. You can sell it, give it away or dispose of it. But he can’t ship out over state lines WITHOUT INSPECTIONS. He might try to sneak it over the border–like his plant his sister to a plant in Mexico. Someone might wanna check on the legality of that. You know we have this deal but it’s super hush hush. Like horses that are turned away at the border might end up with Rick who might not have any qualms about slaughtering a thin or ill horse since the meat would be getting moved across the border…

Is he Still wearing his hard hat? Thats so the aliens returning to Roswell, NM they will know who to beam up for their project to see why these people are Not repulsed by horse slaughter, it will also keep him from hitting his head on the way into the ship via beam, Dunne doesnt need one. Self explanatory! Cant wait to see what the aliens discover? What will they find…..better yet…when they are done……will they put the hard hat back on him? Oh wait they go in through the other end. Never mind!

The first sign is denial when someone has an addiction. Ricardo needs to go back to a third world country that feeds his addiction to violence and take his evil circus clown Dum Dum with him!

Does kind of make me wonder where he’s getting his funds? Between attorney fees/state and local fees and of course, remodeling his house of horrors to be “kind” to horses he hopes to slaughter; he must be upside down. Anyone else would have closed shop and moved on – how can he afford to keep up this losing battle??
I pity any poor animal that had to look into those eyes before they were “humanely slaughtered”.

And right after the bill was passed Sue Wallis died. Without her or her contacts Rick is headed up a creek without a paddle. No great loss.
Interesting to note–that the cause of death has not been released…

I read somewhere, Margaret, that she died in a B&B of natural causes. They did an autopsy and that was the release. My guess it was a heart attack or severe stroke. One could wonder if the defunding had anything to do with it.
