THE TRUTH #25 – The Bureau of Land Management first claims wild horses “have exhausted the available water resources,” then temporarily suspends the permanent removal of these wild horses from public lands “due to heavy rains.”
An email sent out to many BLM employees by Bruce Rittenhouse, the BLM’s Acting Wild Horse & Burro Division Chief, included an attachment of the Wild Horse & Burro Program Weekly Update for July 13, 2018.
This contains a “gather update” for the Pancake Herd Management Area in Nevada that states:
“Bait-trap gather operations began on July 9 but were suspended due to heavy rains. AS of July 13, 20 wild horses have been gathered and removed. The purpose of the gather is remove up to 250 wild horses that have exhausted the available water resources. The appropriate management level for Pancake HMA is 240-493 horses; the estimated population as of March 1 was 2,160 – 438% of AML.”
Also, if you look at the last graph, you will see that this program spends basically 0% on population growth suppression, 1% on Plan for Herd Management, and 1% on compliance checks.
Even after many months, the BLM still hasn’t announced to the public anywhere on their website that Bruce Rittenhouse is the current Acting Division Chief of the BLM’s Wild Horse & Burro Program.
