Many years ago I stood beside the bed of Mary Nash. She was frail, bedridden and growing weaker by the moment as cancer slowly took her precious life away from her. From this story that the effects of her battle against horse slaughter affected the writer, as it has so many others. Her last words to me were, “Keep fighting until they are safe.”
Houston, TX – (SFTHH) To the delight of environmentalists and wild horse advocates the construction of the $3 billion Ruby Pipeline has been delayed. The pipeline is slated to run through pristine wilderness from Wyoming through northern Utah and Nevada to Oregon. The project has been the reason that wild horse advocates claim the BLM has been gutting the publicly owned northern Nevada ranges of their native, American wild horses.
I believe that I saw her this morning, just a fleeting glimpse, but I feel that she was there. I knew that she had been swimming in my dreams last night. A man knows these things even if the birth of a new day washes away the details.

I have to be honest with you, all of this recent talk of horse slaughter and the cruelty that the likes of “Slaughterhouse” Sue Wallis wants to dish out on our companion animals has conjured up some pretty poignant memories on the topic of horse slaughter.

Sponsored by the Equine Photographers Network the black and white photo titled “First Bite” by Terry Fitch of Magnolia, Texas has won the “Peoples Choice Award”.
The story that I am about to tell is of a very special horse at the Habitat for Horses ranch named Pete. He was the first horse to come into HfH, bought off the slaughter bound truck at the age of 8 months. The story I heard was that the previous owner wanted him gone so he could put cattle on the pasture.
March 30, 2010 was the day that Tony Meyers was scheduled to stand trial in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana for animal cruelty charges where he inflicted grievous harm to a mare, three years ago. He pleaded guilty as charged the day before, after jury selection.
Houston – (SFTHH) – On the 23rd of February 2010 Jason Meduna was sentenced on 145 counts of felony animal cruelty charges and placed behind bars. One week later, six of the survivors from the 3-Strikes killing fields were finally placed in their forever homes at the ranch of country music icon Willie Nelson.
