With mid-term elections fast approaching in November, there are relatively few days left in this Congressional session. But there is still time to pass the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, H.R. 503/S.B. 727.

Visit this site to find the name and contact information for your U.S. representative in Washington.  Find your two U.S. senators here. You can also call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your U.S. representative and senators.

It is best to call or fax your representative or senators. Tell your representative and senators that you urge them sign on as a co-sponsor to the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, H.R. 503/S.B. 727. Be sure to tell your representative that you live in his or her district and your senators that you live in their state. Go here to find out if your rep is already a co-sponsor!  Visit this site to find out if your senators are co-sponsors.

More about the bill

H.R. 503/S.B. 727 will put an end to the slaughter of American horses for human consumption.  Only a federal law can stop this tragedy. As John Holland, founder and president of Equine Welfare Alliance, put it, “Horse slaughter is not a ‘necessary evil’, as the industry claims, it is simply evil.  Now is our opportunity to resign this practice to the dust bin of American history.”   Find a copy of the bill here. For more information about the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act, H.R. 503/S.B. 727….

Why this is the perfect time to end the slaughter of American horses. Also, read the Equine Welfare Alliance report submitted to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on horse slaughter.

  1. Done. As soon as you mention the bill number, Pelosi’s staff is sending you to voicemail so they are being inundated with calls. Surprisingly, this morning my husband asked me to give him the numbers to call also!!!!!

  2. Making mine now – had to feed the horses first. 🙂

Also PLEASE don’t forget to send your comments today by 4:30pm to:
    antelope_complex_gather@blm.gov

The BLM is planning to remove 1659 mustangs from the Antelope Complex in Nevada beginning January 2011 unless we can get them stopped. Another round-up in the dead of winter – they learned nothing from Calico.

Please send in your comments – thank you!

  3. Well, I got everyone except Sen Reid and Kay Bailey Hutchinoson. Her miserable office just said to call later as there were too many calls. But I’ve had that experience before. Everyone else was nice. Some took my name and location others didn’t.

  5. Made my calls earlier today. For some reason I had been given the idea that the proper day was Thurs. Oh well. I can always call again.

At least I have the comfort of knowing I tried.
