Oklahoma State Rep. Skye McNeil’s Family Stands to Gain with Murder of Horses

  1. Sheriff needs to go after killbuyers/transporters that are dumping and abusing the horses. I can’t help but cringe when McNiel refers to slaughter as humane euthanasia and promotes slaughter as an end to cruelty when is it the individuals involved in this predatory activity that are the culprits.

    • Absolutely, make $$$$$$$Skye Slaughterhouse McNiel and her children witness the horse slaughter house for an entire week and even participate in the brutal “humane” slaughtering of these animals, if it actually comes to opening these filthy disease ridden slaughter houses that are run by illegals, felons and ex-cons. See how long Skye McNiel and her children lasts witnessing these barbaric killings; she wouldn’t last more than two minutes. She might get her fingernails dirty.

  2. The issue is profit…humane responsible ownership be damned. AQHA and other breed associations and their members continue to flood the market looking for the next Champion whether in show or racing. The Fed’s feed them by given them tax incentives to raise a foal but only for a couple of years then the depreciation write off is less than the cost to feed so sell it, get the money from the kill buyer and then write it off the horse as a business loss.

The Farm Bureau is the one pushing this through and they have the politicians in their pockets. The ultimate goal is Ag Gag bills across the country. McNiel obviously has a financial stake in the future of slaughter, not to mention any political contribution her family’s business gave her while running for office to help make this happen.

OK needs to be passing stiffer laws about cruelty rather than creating a new law to allow more killing.

    • Anti-slaughter people need to SHOW that each horse puts back more $ and positive into society ALIVE (feed, vet, tack, land cost, taxes, training, etc) than EACH horse provides being slaughtered. WHERE ARE THESE ARGUMENTS? You can’t just play the inhumane and bad things in the meat arguments. And…as powerful as the Democrats have become, do not fool yourself into believing they couldn’t stop this, if they really wanted to. We aren’t doing a good enough job keeping the focus on the $ and positive affect on society and economy as a LIVING HORSE, not a tortured, killed horse. Even the rescues have to buy feed, tack, pay for land, retraining, etc.

  3. Whenever people say, ‘We mustn’t be sentimental,’ you can take it they are about to do something cruel. And if they add, ‘We must be realistic,’ they mean they are going to make money out of it.”

    • So, play by their rules and get the economic data in their faces! And show they are HARMING the economy, society, etc, by killing, rather than finding a good use for the horse, from a backyard pet to a performance horse, to a therapy horse for the physically or mentally disabled–for the returning Veterans and even prisoners. WHY DON’T I HEAR THESE ARGUMENTS FRONT AND CENTER? Stop focusing on what they are doing and focus on what CAN BE DONE and is being done to benefit society by keeping the horses humanely cared for and ALIVE!

    • Agreed! They are going to do the barbaric thing and then they are going to make money. It made me sick to see all of those people at the horse auctions bidding on these poor horses to be sent to the slaughter house. They all looked like corn-fed hillbillies to me, after a quick buck.

  4. The horse slaughter industry for human consumtion of horse meat is not interested in sick, thin or elderly horses, after all they want horse meat to sell in the European markets where it is eaten as a delicasy!!!!!!

    • Of course. So the pro-slaughter industry in the U.S. keeps telling the public propaganda like the reason why we need horse slaughter in the U.S. is because of the sick, lame, older, and abandoned horses. They pro-slaughter industry also claims that there are too many horses, but they send kill buyers in to buy up horses (and by the way, increase the bids on horses so rescue sites have a hard time getting the horses) because they have a quota (usually under contract) to have so many horses per contract to send to slaughter houses across the borders. But, they usually over-load the trucks and the horses kill each other, they don’t ever stop to feed or water, or allow the horses to rest, and the so called veterinarian who is suppose to care for these horses as they are being transported has yet to make the news stating they had to put down horses due to health or illegal transporting of horses. Yet, in many auction lots, the horses are left to die unattended to – as a veterinarian stands by and watches. These horses could have any disease and of course, have already subjected the entire population of horses it was shipped with to the disease they may have. The pro-slaughter industry is a propaganda institution that is heavily steeped in government agencies that control the population of horses and their ability to be allowed to live…fighting the very people who are trying to stop the abuse and neglect and the federal crimes that are committed by the federal agencies that are supporting horse slaughter.

    • I saw that too. Reading the CHDC blog, horses on average need to be stunned 4 – 7 times while a cow only once because they can be restrained.

      Like

    • In Canada undercover video shows one horse being stunned 11 times ! Numerous stunning attempts are nothing new in this evil brutally cruel horse slaughter industry ! This is why the entire business is so cruellyINHUMANE

  5. The video shows horses hanging and moving at the same time in the slaughter house. Is that an indication that they’re conscious? In addition, no matter where auction houses are located, there is animal cruelty.

Provoked: Another phrase is “we need to have an adult conversation about horses” indicates they’re pro-slaughter.

    • Watching the horse hanging while still alive is most Disturbing!! It seems the common practice
is knocking them, not killing, just to hang them to bleed out………………Barbaric!!

    • Paul McCartney said that famous quote about, “If slaughter houses had glass walls, more people just wouldn’t eat the products.”
Paul and his family are vegetarians and have more money than God. Yet they refrain from eating meat and they would gag at what Senator Skye McNiel’s horse slaughtering bill is introducing.

This is about Irreponsible horse ownership……………
and hay prices climbing with no end in sight…..

Many of these people having a mentality severly below our standards by allowing their horses to starve, while they go about their lives watching them deteriorate on their property….

    This just angers me!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need alternatives for the unwanted horses…..not auctions for pro slaugher as the
    end result…………

  7. Some people seem to have accepted the term “horse slaughter” and for some reason they are no longer shocked by it. So, as a poet, I have coined a new term that is more accurate- “HORSE MURDER.” Will that wake anyone up?

    • Do you hear that Skye? I can understand you being unsentimental. You have got to be tough to be in Congress but for you to not have once ounce of compassion and write this ridiculous and obvious ploy for you to make millions off of the murder of healthy horses is a conflict of interest since your family owns horse auctions, then you should be thoroughly investigated by the “Powers That Be.” You are in “Good Ol’ Boy” Country and they are not going to take losing or having their horses stolen because you passed a bill to make a buck lying down.

  8. To think that these people would change their minds if they had to watch, they would not. There are some people who are born without any common sense when it comes to important things and yet, they have the ability to make others believe that they are worthy of allowing them to make the laws and rule this country. There is no way of making these people change, they are thinking about what they want, and already have the money spent in their heads, of what they want to do with the slaughtered horses profits that they receive. Don’t waste your time trying to change them, they are thinking money only, and money rules their world as they rule this country. Shame. Shame, but there is no stopping some of them if they are voted into office and use it for evil.

  9. This entire video infuriates me! This POS public official is lying through her teeth and ignoring the facts. The GAO was cited as agreeing that the problem was caused by the end to slaughter here, however, they DID NOT go further to say that the GAO report was actually RECANTED later on and they admitted that it was not accurate. WTF!!! Slaughter has always still been an option and there is no excuse for starving or abandoned animals in the U.S. If the hay growers would stop selling to foreign markets for higher prices and help the U.S. horseowners, many of these horses could be fed. The rescue spokeswoman said it best when she said that these horses come from people who would neglect, starve, and abuse them regardless of having a slaughter house next door! Canada is a prime example. Why are people not listening?! To hear that legislator sit there calmly and sentence these animals to a horrific death makes me sick. She is just another Wallis puppet who stands to gain $$ from this and cares not about the suffering of these animals. I am sick of hearing that this is “humane” — it is far from it and the USDA itself has proven it! Who’s “blowing” who here to get these bills railroaded through without public notice?!!!

    Like

    • I agree, Barbara. They use statistics like everything else, only letting the public or the unsuspecting know what they want them to know. Just like keeping two sets of accounting and records…illegal but they haven’t been stopped yet. Oh, and they never listen to the GAO recommendation reports anyway. Also, Temple Grandin is the one that is pushing for the slaughter issue being humane…not the USDA. So, keep Grandin out of the horse population decisions…she needs to be banned from horses entirely.

  10. I am as outraged as you are!!…..Hay prices are off the chart as the hay producers rape all of us
over it…Screw the foreign market…..let’s take care of our horses here…but it’s about GREED again!!!….seems to be the real problem in all of this…………..

    • I heard that the hay/alfalfa prices are going through the roof because of a combination of things. First more land is given for corn/ethanol production. Secondly, a lot of hay/alfalfa is shipped abroad, as you said above. Someone said the West Coast hay all goes to China. I don’t know the quantity, but that leaves private horse owners in a bind. Nevertheless, horses like all companion animals should be surrendered if the owners cannot take care of them. I read the Habitat for Horses comment that a bag of feed will cost perhaps $80/month which some refuse to buy, but the owners still manage to dress well, drive nice trucks and live in nice houses. Yet they’ll starve their horse. Cruel – very cruel.

  11. The representative doesn’t know much I guess. Because the issue isn’t that we need a place to get rid of them, the problem is people overbreed and overbreed. Even QH and paint breeds breed to much. Rep Mcneil needs to do her research because most of the horses that are slaughtered are not the old ones, it’s the young and health ones.

  12. In any of the videos, there is not one skinny, old horse. In fact, horses are fattened up. Where I volunteer, a Blue Roan pony about 13 hands, weighing about 1400 was brought in for rehab. He was absolutely sweet, but couldn’t walk at all without stopping every few feet. He lost weight and was adopted by a vet and taken to his forever home last summer. He needed good farrier care for his feet.

    • Skye, your video is full of nothing but rhetoric and no one believes for a minute that the old and skinny horses are the ones going to the slaughter houses; they are taking the young, healthy and meaty one. Your video is nothing but “Blah, blah, blah.. .” Translation: Skye McNeil wants to make blood tainted money for herself.

  13. Skye McNeil,

You are a corrupt politician that is only after the money. How you can write this bill to kill innocent healthy horses is beyond me. You are a greedy money grubbing gold-digger. You aren’t fooling anyone by saying this slaughter house killing is humane. There is nothing humane about it. An animal slaughter house is Auschwitz located in Oklahoma. I hope you are voted out of office real soon. I can’t even stand looking at you. You are certainly no humanitarian or a Christian, let alone a good Baptist. No heart. Everything you say about horse slaugher being “humane” is a just a bunch of rhetoric. You are not fooling anyone except, Gov. Mary Fallin and Sen. Eddie Fields, who stand to gain the BIG BUCKS along with you, who stand to gain the MOST. Obviously someone’s palms are being greased or something else is being greased. There is something very sinister about this bill being passed so quickly and announced on a sacred holiday; Good Friday. You hoodwinked the politicians, but you have not hoodwinked the public. We are not fooled and we are not going to let this just slide without a fight. Did you think about the consequences and how it will affect the crime rate and drop in market value of properties in Oklahoma of this bill of yours or are you only thinking of you padded wallet and dreaming of dollar signs as you drift off to sleep?

  14. Yup – the only thing on her mind (?) is dollar signs. Have never seen so many politicians that care about nothing but their own rear! On the other hand, think about it – the worst thing that will happen is they will get voted out of office, BUT will certainly continue to collect their pension & turn around and lobby for the next generation of politicians so they can make MORE money. Sadly, I remember when I was a kid people ran for office to do good. Sure has changed.
