This allows more time for the livestock industry and other special interests to get their way.

WASHINGTON –In response to requests from the public, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will extend the comment period on a proposed land-use planning rule by 30 days. The proposed rule aims to improve the planning process by making it more collaborative, transparent, and effective.

The comment period will be extended by 30 days, from April 25, 2016, to May 25, 2016. The proposed rule was made available to the public two weeks prior to its publication in the Federal Register on February 25, 2016. With this extension, the BLM has effectively provided a public comment period of 104 days. A notice formalizing this extension will be published in the Federal Register.

Implementation of the proposed rule would enable the BLM to apply the best practices that it has identified over the past 30 years of land-use planning. Continuing the BLM’s longstanding tradition of working closely with communities and local partners, the proposed rule would create increased opportunities for public involvement and transparency in the management of the 245 million acres of public lands that the BLM administers.

The rule would also establish an upfront assessment of baseline conditions in the planning area using the best available science and other relevant information, like traditional ecological knowledge and public views.

The project website,, contains the proposed rule, recordings of the past public webinar and meeting, and other resources.

Comments on the proposed rule can be submitted via the Federal eRulemaking Portal at, personal or messenger delivery, or mail. For more detailed information on how to submit comments, visit the project website,

  1. The first thing that pops into my head about their planning is that they might consider some accuracy and transparency and organization/consistency.
The EA’s often have many inaccuracies and appear to be written by politics and the hum-drum of the BLM “kool-aid” and not based on defensible facts.
The EA’s often only supply the public with bits and pieces of so-called truths, but with no supporting documents. (such as their census/population counts). Just because the BLM says it certainly does NOT make it true.
The EA’s are often difficult to even find online and some field/district offices consistently do not notify the public even when they are on the “interested party” list.

I also suggest that every BLM document start with these two phrases:

    1) Public Service: Let’s get firmly fixed in our minds at the outset that we are public servants, employed by the public and paid by the public from funds provided by taxation in some form. We are responsible to the entire public and are not bureaucratic bosses to work our will upon the public as we see fit.

    2) Title 18 or the United States Code (regarding falsification of legal documents).
Making false statements (18 U.S.C. § 1001) is the common name for the United States federal crime laid out in Section 1001 of Title 18 of the United States Code, which generally prohibits knowingly and willfully making false or fraudulent statements, or concealing information, in “any matter within the jurisdiction” of the federal government of the United States, even by mere denial
18 U.S. Code § 1519 – Destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in Federal
Current through Pub. L. 114-38. (See Public Laws for the current Congress.)
    US Code
Whoever knowingly alters, destroys, mutilates, conceals, covers up, falsifies, or makes a false entry in any record, document, or tangible object with the intent to impede, obstruct, or influence the investigation or proper administration of any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency of the United States or any case filed under title 11, or in relation to or contemplation of any such matter or case, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.
    (Added Pub. L. 107–204, title VIII, § 802(a), July 30, 2002, 116 Stat. 800.)

  2. This gives us time to get all of our Horse Warriors in place too. Yesterday many of us called Washington to protest the treatment of our Wild Horses and Burros. Folks right now we have an opportunity to stop all this madness and close US borders forever thru the Safe Food, Safe Horse Export Act. I am appaulled with so many Horse Warriors and Advocates, we are short by 27 votes to get it discharged from the committee and on to the floor!!! If we get these votes it doesn’t matter what the damn Committee Chair does! To hold this up in committee is bull shit politics!! Come on people where are you??? We only have until late August. If we don’t get it done now it will have to reintroduced after the elections and the new Congress takes their seats in January. Call and call your Legislator if they have not sponsored this bill. Five or ten minutes of your time would hault the trailers grim taking our horses and other equines down the Highway to Hell and their final death! If you really do care please pick up your phone, text or email your Legislatkrs and demand they sponsor this bill!!!
