(In My Humble Opinion) by R.T. Fitch author of “Straight from the Horse’s Heart”
Yesterday morning I sat at the computer and just could not bring myself to write anything, not one blinking word. Day after day we have been battered with the bad news of the BLM violating the law and decimating the few remaining wild horse herds while diabolical mental misfits sit in the wings and smack their lips at the chance of getting the horses on their BBQ. I was so distraught that I actually phoned a seated board member of a much respected equine advocacy group to voice my concerns long before the sun was up and still the keyboard remained silent. All of you valued readers just deserved some good news for a change.
And then it happened; a phone call from several advocates verified that the alleged “estray” horse’s recently gathered by the BLM where purchased by advocates and private owners leaving the killer buyer trailers empty. Great News!

This event is a testament to what can be done when like minded advocates band together and see a mission through to its conclusion. It’s simply a matter of working together, maintaining focus and diligently doing what must be done to achieve the required result. This is where we are headed on a larger scale with both the wild horse and slaughter issues, together we can make this happen and together we will make a difference.
Keep the faith.

Finally a story where good triumphs over evil. I love to imagine a just world in which the economic interests of a few powerful people DO NOT override the interests of the less powerful whether they are children animals or the elderly. This is wonderful that these caring people came to the aid of our fellow creatures who are defenseless and cannot speak for themselves. Yes we can make a difference and they did in the lives of these 175 sentient beautiful creatures who deserve a chance to live out their lives. We must remain diligent in our efforts to protect them because they cannot protect themselves.

The war is won with small victories. This was a wonderful victory for these “stray” horses.

I think it will be OK with Barbara to post this here. She posted it on the Cloud Foundation blog. I just wanted to be certain that you all get to see it. These people have so much courage and compassion. They are shining beacons for everyone.

I great deal of credit goes to Layra Bell who I think took the photo that is posted. She took pictures until she was ordered off of the propert. Many of these horses have dorsal and leg stripes and other wild horse characteristics.

This is a good thing that someone was able to step up to save these so called “estrays”.
I know this is not a story related to these particular horses, but is something that has been reported on in R.T.s blog previously. I just read a report that the BLMs recent cencus count of the Calico range is stating that there are over 1000 head still running out there. So what are we suppose to believe? Does the indepentant observer, Mr Downer, who conducted his own fly over count, not hold any factual information? Or, as reports have been put out earlier, that the BLM would use contorted ways to come up with a count, be a reality? Duh, let me think on this one a minute. Do they not know that there are now a large number of observers out there that are keeping records of what they are doing?

Jerry, BLM is aware that people are out there. They are still trying to get their act together. The fact that we have people in the field should caution anyone who thinks they can just go out and cause a problem for BLM and it will help. It will backfire and all of us will be waiting for an opening to see what is going on. The Courts are still our best bet. Other avenues should be discussed off the blogs for everyones’ safety. We have been labeled by BLM as “eco-terrorists” and that means we have the ability to be charged under homeland security laws. That is a very serious way to go. Let’s all stay safe for now, please. mar

Great news! These saviors have a place in horse heaven. You know how the story goes— a child is throwing starfish into the sea after a big storm. Someone says–it doesn’t matter– there are so many. The child continues to rescue the starfish–saying — it matters to that one, and it matters to this one……. Say it 175 times for the rescued horses.
Where is the President on all of this?? We never hear from him. I write to the White House 2-3 times a week. No response.

Aren’t dorsal and leg stripes characteristics of the Spanish wild horses? Can they be tested to prove they didn’t come from someone’s back yard?
