The Wild Horse Advocate Pledge

I pledge Allegiance to the Mustangs

of the United States of American and to the Icon

for which they stand, one symbol understood,

undeniable, with liberty and freedom for all.” ~R.T. Fitch

As the BLM’s PR firm pummels the press with trumped up numbers and voodoo science I make this promise to the wild horse advocates around the world and to the very horses themselves; you will always find the truth, here, as best we know it.

There’s agony and disaster occurring on our western public lands and that has brewed a tornado of misconception, rumor and innuendo that is roaring across this great land of ours. But while our aggressive enemy, the BLM, gives in to untruths and propaganda; we will not succumb.  If I, personally, cannot verify accurate content and facts you will not see it printed here.  You may read news containing a sprinkling of commentary/opinion or simply opinion raw and to the point; but you will not see rumor…we are better than that.

So until I can grab a hold of the concrete facts that are circling the ongoing tragedy that is the BLM’s Helicopter Stampedes of death, you will see no conjecture in these pages.

We will, however, make a move to assemble even more timely news by personally merging our efforts with many other advocates by lending our eyes and ears to the tragedy that is befalling our native wild horses.  Time and place will not be disclosed but when it happens, you will be the first to know.

For the sake of the horses, we pledge our truth and integrity to the process of acquiring the facts and spreading the message to the American public.  It’s the only way that we can stop this madness; honesty is the most effective weapon of all.

  2. Wonderful pledge. To be said with our morning prayers and evening.

Now I lay me down to sleep
I give you, Lord, The Horse to keep.
If any die before I wake,
The others I will not forsake.

    • I like it Shirley..Our commitment goes on into infinity.. I take both pledges.

Let me say this about “rumor”..we are not allowed access to facts or meaningful observation, BLMs “fact sheet” is incomplete, we are not allowed access close enough to observe gathers, horses are being shipped to prisons and private property where we have no access, there is no accounting for horses that have disappeared..over 1,000 stallions shipped from tuscararo to a prison..it defys imagination..where did the prison get facilities to house and care for 1,000 ex stallions? Where are the competent prisoners to handle this many wild horses, it seems they were turning out about 20 horses and now they have 1,000-not at all realistic..USHS needs to make unannounced visits to these facilities or a group of designated advocates..we DEMAND to have access to these and others in holding across the United States..We want numbers and accountability that does not exist at this time..If the BLM was not prepared to handle this at this time, these roundups and removals should never have started.

      • That prison does have a visitors day, has anyone in the area went to see? from what I remember they are a long term holding facility for the blm and train *some* of the wild horses they hold.

a fly over with photos of the general herd can be arranged? and a local visitor with a camera.

  3. Sweet pledge for our wild ones, thanks. They so deserve it right now. There is a reckoning coming. Outrage will stand up to the lies, torture and deaths. Truth will find a way.

We must be able, always , to access all our wild horses and see to their needs; in the wild and in captivity. Every horse needs to be known and accounted for. Anything less is not acceptable, ever. You read this BLM: we want to see all of our wild horses. Now. We want those foals taken care of or removed by a rescue. Is this now a war against foals?? Your contractors need psychological testing. These people are killers and torturers. IMHO. You are the shame of America. mar

  4. Outrage is a very accurate description. I take both pledges. I also pledge not to get angry. When I read Mr. Downer’s description of the horses’ condition yesterday I was enraged. I called the White House comment line and quoted the description and went on a rant like George Carlin. I wasn’t impolite but my comments to President Obama were livid. Then I decided it was high time to gather up my courage and meet with Senator Durbin this month to present the fact sheet and the synopsis of the PEER white paper on BLM. I will take heart, mar, but the feeling of loss is overwhelming. These horses have fought hard for their freedom and we must somehow return it to them. I’m so glad I heeded your words and sent a substantial contribution to Herd Watch. I just wish there was more that I could do. Thanks, R.T. for your wisdom and fortitude.

    • Once upon a time I had two fine senators while I stayed in Illinois to help my Mom. Obama seemed to have the ability to involve himself and understand more than any one I had ever known before. Durbin was affected by Obama and they were like a supportive team. I think Durbin needs that face to face with people to get him back to being influenced to do good and right. Good luck, Lenore. mar

  5. Thank you RT. Its refreshing to know that what you print you have verified. It is easy to jump to conclusions esp since getting full information is so difficult. Like the foal found apparently shot, who did it? I don’t want to guess and thats all it would be at this point.

  6. Shame, shame on us! Where is the outrage from President Obama, Governor Schwarzenegger and Ken Salazar at the BLM? This is an outrage! We counted on them to protect our wild horses. These horses are our national treasures! WILD HORSES AND BURROS ARE FEDERALLY PROTECTED, BUT WHY ARE THEY BEING KILLED BY THE GOVERNMENT?

  7. How can any animal rights groups allow this to continue? Get down there and protest this inhuman horse circus, called a roundup! No one else could treat animals this way and get away with it!!! So how can the BLM?

  8. R.T., you have again given us such inspiration.

Having said that – I am going to put forth one conjecture – the one I put forth during Tuscaroro – those horses suffered savagely – beyond our imaginations.

The escalation at Twin Peaks from day one, to day two and treee – can only follow the same pattern to days where no one is witness.

And they do so because they can.

They do so not because they don’t know better, not because they don’t know horses, or not because they do not know wild horse behaviour and breeding. They do so because they DO KNOW these things – is conjecture too? But calling them stupid is also conjecture (I think dumb like a fox they are).

No, they know perfectly well – and they are not forgiven “because they know not what they do”.

  9. Thank you, RT, for being our guiding light. We all depend on you…and you always deliver.

I agree with you Roxy, the Tuscarora horses suffered beyond anything we could imagine. The Cattoors are brutal people and the BLM have become a rouge entity. They thumb their noses as us in disdain and smile behind close door. Too much conjecture? hmmmm
